Dandy Ace Wiki & Creators' Preview Event Extended - Now ends February 1st!

Greetings Magicians!

The Dandy Ace Creators’ Preview Event was originally scheduled to run from January 11th-25th. Due to popular demand and the feedback we have been receiving on Twitch Mode we have decided to extend the event for another week. Players will now be able to download and play the free event demo from the Dandy Ace Steam Page until February 1st!

Event Schedule: January 11th - February 1st

Last week we had updated Twitch Mode based on the responses we had gotten from streamers and their communities. You can read more about that update HERE. We’d like to use this extended event time to gather additional feedback on the changes which include Twitch Assist as well as plenty of new settings that allow the streamer to adjust things like vote timers.

The team will continue to make adjustments and improvements after the event so please let us know your thoughts on the new additions on Steam, Twitter, or Discord. If you stream Dandy Ace or create any content we’d love to see it. Tag us on Twitter or share it in our Community Discord.

We would also like to announce that Dandy Ace now has a Wiki! You can read about most of the Magic Cards, Trinkets, Bosses, Enemies, Characters, and much much more by visiting the Wiki. We plan to expand on it further as we approach launch and finalize things.

DANDY ACE WIKI

If you haven’t already, please add Dandy Ace to your Steam Wishlist as it helps us out a lot. Thank you to all of you that have participated and for all of the positive comments so far!

Blue Magic Cards: Mobility - Part 2

Hey Magicians!

The Creators’ Preview Event has been a blast so far and we appreciate everyone that has played and wishlisted Dandy Ace. We’ve received a lot of feedback from players and streamers, especially for Twitch Mode, and have started making changes to improve the overall experience. The Patch Notes for our latest Twitch Mode update that went live earlier today can be found HERE.

This week we’ll be covering the rest of the mobility based Blue Magic Cards found within Dandy Ace. If you'd like to check out Part 1 of the Blue Magic Cards you can find it HERE. As mentioned previously in our Introduction to Magic Cards, Dandy Ace’s core mechanic revolves around the Magical Cards which act as skills in the game. Players are able to create countless combinations of skills, upgrades, and play styles by combining the different cards they come across on each run. Blue Magic Cards fall into two categories: Blinks & Dashes. Dashes allow Ace to travel forward and pass through enemies but do not offer any invulnerability frames during the dash. Blinks on the other hand allow Ace to teleport forward a short distance, avoiding any enemy attacks that may be between the start and end points.

Time Warp

Time Warp is one of Ace's most basic blink cards. Time Warp allows Ace to quickly blink forward and cause an AOE explosion. Ace deals damage to any enemies around him at his blink end-location.

Upgrading a card with Time Warp adds Dimensional Burst to the card which will cause Ace to deal damage to all enemies in a short range AOE around him when the upgraded skill is activated.

Toxic Retreat

Toxic Retreat is a blink based Blue Card. On activation Ace will blink forward and simultaneously apply a Toxic debuff to any enemies near him at his initial location. Toxic causes the affected enemy to form a toxic field around them that deals damage to the enemy over a short period of time as well as others around them. As the card's name suggests, this skill is best utilized when blinking out of groups of enemies or to retreat as you have to be near the enemies to apply the Toxic debuff. If utilized as an upgrade, Toxic Retreat will add the Toxic debuff to any card, applying to enemies on hit.

Escape Artist

Escape Artist is a blink based Blue Magic Card. On use, Ace blinks forward leaving behind a Noxious Cloud. Any enemies affected by or entering the cloud will take damage for as long as they remain within it. Upgrading a card with Escape Artist adds Noxious Cloud to that card, creating a cloud when the upgraded card is used.

Phantom Rebound

Ace's ghost may be as stylish as him, but beware of its curse! Phantom Rebound is a dash based Blue Card. With the Phantom Rebound card Ace dashes forward, leaving a phantom of himself behind. After a short period the phantom returns to him, creating a big explosion and cursing enemies within range. The Curse debuff makes enemies take damage the next time they attack. When used as an upgrade, Phantom Rebound will add Curse to any card causing enemies to take damage on their next attack.

Shards Rush

Shards Rush is a dash based Blue Card. When activated, Ace dashes forward quickly launching shards in the direction of the dash over a short distance. The shards deal damage to any enemies hit by them.

The upgrade effects on Shard Rush are fairly unique and will vary depending on the type of card it is combined with. When combined with Pink Magic Cards the cards gain Energy Flux which provides a damage boost to the skill for each skill Ace has on cooldown. When combined with Yellow Magic Cards and Blue Magic Cards the cards gain Extra Charge allowing the skill to be used an additional time.

That covers the Blue Magic Cards Ace will have at his disposal as he makes his way through the Cursed Mirror. We’ll be covering the Pink and Yellow Magic Cards over the next few weeks as we approach the launch of Dandy Ace in early 2021. Be sure to add Dandy Ace to your Steam Wishlist and follow us on all social media to stay up to date as we post new announcements.

The Creators’ Preview Event featuring our latest demo with Twitch Mode and additional content will remain available for all to download until January 25th! Don’t miss out and be sure to leave any feedback you may have on our Mad Mimic Community Discord where you can chat with members of the development team as well as other community members.

Dandy Ace's "Twitch Mode"

The Dandy Ace team has been having a blast watching all of the streamers playing in Twitch Mode during our Dandy Ace Creators’ Preview Event so far. Everyone can download the latest free demo from the Dandy Ace Steam Page and participate in the event. Players can also hop into Twitch streams and participate in Twitch Mode as a viewer throughout the event period!

Twitch Mode is always unlocked right from the start for any Twitch streamers to take advantage of across any difficulty settings they have unlocked. While playing in Twitch Mode players will continue to be able to unlock all of the same content available in the Standard Mode and will be able to switch between the two modes while maintaining their progress in the run. The mode can be customized to the streamers liking, turning on only the specific voting features they want.

Twitch Mode allows viewers to be able to interact directly with the streamer through chat. Viewers can decide how they want to impact the streamer’s run whether it be to help them progress or make things more challenging overall. Votes are held to determine which level the streamer will head to next, which cards will drop during the run, and one lucky viewer will also have the opportunity to become Dandy Ace’s antagonist, Lele the Green-Eyed Illusionist!

Twitch Mode features several different options that can be turned on or off by the streamer, including:

Lele Mode

When activated, “Lele Mode” allows one viewer to become Lele for a short period of time. Viewers apply for the role by typing “Lele” into chat when prompted to do so. Lele is then randomly selected from those that have applied and is able to interact with the streamer via chat commands.

As Lele, the viewer gains access to a handful of his Magic Tricks and Cards for a period of time to try to stop Ace from progressing such as:
Cards/Skills

  • Time Dissonance
  • Black Hole
  • Call Lightning
  • Escape Artist
  • Packet Trick

Magic Tricks

  • Block Random Card
    • Blocks a card from being used for a short period of time

  • Block Tea Potion
    • Prevents Ace from using Tea Potions to heal for a period of time

  • Twitch Cupcake
    • A cupcake that can either heal or damage Ace, but it will never kill Ace fully.

  • Spawn Random Enemies
    • Several enemies will spawn around Ace with the viewer’s name above them

Level Selection Poll

The Level Selection Poll gives viewers control over the streamer’s path through the Cursed Mirror and Lele’s Palace. Viewers in the chat are able to vote on the next level the streamer will have to enter and get through.

Twitch Cards

With this feature enabled viewers in the chat will be able to vote for the card you will receive from Arenas, Treasure Chests, and one card at the Shopkeepers. This replaces the cards you would normally receive from these drops.

Twitch Reward Tent

The Twitch Reward Tent replaces the Reward Tents found in Standard Mode at the beginning of each level. When the Twitch Reward Tent is enabled, viewers in the chat are able to vote on what additional prize you will earn along with replenishing your Tea Potions.

Twitch Reaction

When Twitch Reaction is enabled, users are able to send short messages to the streamer that will appear on screen. This feature will only appear after defeating a boss or after dying.

**Update**

More customization options!: We added an Advanced Settings screen that will allow streamers to customize the duration of Twitch Mode interactions. Adjust how often each vote feature appears and for how long.

Twitch Assist: With this new Twitch Mode tool viewers can help the player by giving them random buffs or spawning healing cupcakes.

Welcome to the Garden: Lady Thorn & the Oozes

[previewyoutube="cUgBPT9_5qg;full"]

Garden

Located just beyond the Courtyard outside of the Palace, the Garden leads to Dandy Ace’s 2nd boss otherwise known as Scissorella, The Royal Gardener! Scissorella's own Garden is an extension of this map full of untidy bushes and a darker/more mischievous tone overall. The Garden features a wide variety of plants, statues, and enemies.

Dandy Ace will not only need to fight off Lady Thorns, Oozes, Poison Turrets and Explosive Totems but also be careful where he fires off his skills as the Garden is home to a plant based environmental hazard that activates when it takes damage! After a short delay the Plant Bomb will burst open dealing damage to anything near it. Ace can kite or knock enemies into the Plant Bomb’s radius to deal significant damage to them when the plants burst. After a short period of time the plants will grow back and can be activated again.

Lady Thorns

Prior to the fight against Scissorella Ace will have to get past a legion of Oozes as well as Lady Thorns, also known as Minirella! Lady Thorns is a humanoid enemy and one of Lele’s Palace Guests that shares visual similarities with Scissorella. Both of the skills Lady Thorns utilizes will be similar to those Ace will encounter in the boss fight but on a smaller scale.

Lady Thorns has two offensive skills and no defensive skills. Once spotted, Lady Thorns will chase after Ace attempting to perform Smash Rebound when in melee range. On activation Lady Thorns will swipe at Ace dealing damage and leaving behind an AOE that explodes after a short delay. At range she has Thorn Barrage at her disposal. When used Lady Thorns will fire a barrage of thorns that sweep across an area in Ace’s general direction dealing damage to anything caught within it.

Oozes

Under the control of Scissorella, the Big Oozes, Ooze Dudes, and Mini-Oozes help Lady Thorns keep watch over the Garden and Courtyard. With the ability to split itself into smaller Oozes things can quickly get overwhelming if Ace isn't equipped to deal with large groups of enemies. On death, Oozes will split into multiple smaller versions of themselves with more limited skill sets the smaller the Ooze gets.

Big Oozes & Ooze Dudes are able to leave behind an Ooze Trail wherever they travel. If Ace attempts to walk over the trail he will take damage. When within range of Ace, the Ooze will attempt to Charge in Ace's direction dealing damage if it hits. Big Oozes will follow up the Charge with an Ooze Burst covering the area around it with ooze for a short period of time. Standing within range of the burst or in the remaining ooze will cause Ace to take damage. The defensive skill only available to Big Oozes is Multiply, allowing it to spawn two Oozes alongside it. Mini-Oozes will continue to chase after Ace but are much less of a threat due to their lack of offensive and defensive skills.

Explosive Totems & Poison Turrets

Poison Turrets will have Ace constantly moving to avoid the giant poison clouds while fighting off enemies. The combination of Oozes and Poison Turrets can make it difficult to find space to fight in tighter parts of the map. Explosive Totems combo well with Oozes, adding onto their ability to multiply and split. The Explosive Totem applies Explosive Buff to enemies within its range. Any enemy with the buff active will explode on death after a brief delay dealing damage to Ace if he remains too close.

Venture into the Garden when Dandy Ace releases on Steam, Xbox, Playstation, and Switch in early 2021! Thank you to everyone that participated in our Second Beta Test. Meet The Voices: Voice Actor Derek Trowell

There are lots of interesting personalities to meet in Dandy Ace. The Mad Mimic team has had the opportunity to work with a few amazing voice actors that have brought them all to life. From the various bosses and minions to our lead protagonist Ace and his twin stage assistants, Jolly Jolly & Jenny Jenny, the actors provide a voice to the characters you’ll run into while making your way through the Cursed Mirror and Lele’s ever-changing Palace!

[previewyoutube="0TdpA0xqkDw;full"]

Get some insights into the voice acting process and meet the voice behind Dandy Ace, Lele The Green-Eyed Illusionis, Axolangelo The Artist, and many more in our interview with voice actor Derek Trowell!

What is your name and a brief introduction to yourself?

Hi, my name is Derek Trowell and I voiced Dandy Ace, Lele The Green-Eyed Illusionist, Axolangelo The Artist, Severino The Gatekeeper, and Nnif The Smuggler.

What was the process like to create a voice for the character(s) in Dandy Ace?

Working with Luis and Mad Mimic is a treat because I know they are going to put out a great product. Luis and the design team know what they want and give great direction to craft the characters and their voices. There was a lot of back and forth to get the voices just right and I really think it shows.

What were the major aspects of the character(s) you were trying to portray through their voice?

Well Lele and Axolangelo show a wide range of emotion. Lele's personality is complex. He is so jealous of Ace, but also in awe of him. I actually had a tougher time creating Dandy Ace himself. Personally, I find it easier to be a villain. Being likable is more difficult for me, lol.

Are there any particular lines of dialogue that were your favorite to perform?

Actually I really enjoy doing Lele's laugh. Voicing Lele takes a lot of energy but is a lot of fun! I would often crack up in front of the mic doing some of his lines.
[previewyoutube="wN9RYIUk5ug;full"]

The main antagonist of Dandy Ace. Lele is an ugly tyrant that both admires and hates Ace. His
obsession grows so much that he sells his own soul to trap Ace inside The Cursed Mirror.

Do you have a favorite character in Dandy Ace?

There are lots of really cool enemies - like the Cuckoo Nightmare and Scissorella. I really dig the look of Axolangelo stylistically and his personality is really open with his ever-changing emotions. I also really like Nnif the smuggler- how he is a self-made bunny in an ever-changing world. I hope he gets out.
[previewyoutube="f-HkepBYNKc;full"]

Nnif is one the bunnies under Lele's command that decided to end his services and started a rogue life as a smuggler providing a wide range of upgrades in exchange for shards.

Do you have any advice for people interested in getting into voice acting?

I would say go to where the voices are needed. There are lots of animation or sound design students who need fresh voices and that is a good way to build a good portfolio of work to show others. There are also online platforms that post lots of jobs that need voice actors for a variety of projects.

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions! Where can people follow you or check out some of your other work?

I have a Facebook page for the odd post or you can check out my demo reel video on Youtube!

Many of these characters and their voice overs are currently in the game and able to be found in our Free Demo. The Demo is available to download on the Dandy Ace Steam Page now where you’ll be able to explore the Entrance Hall, Art Gallery, and take on our first boss, Axolangelo! Be sure to add Dandy Ace to your Steam Wishlist and follow us on all social media to stay up to date as we post new announcements such as upcoming betas and events leading up to the launch in early 2021!
