Dark Quest: Board Game

Exploration and Combat Teaser

The heroes are in the forest and as you draw exploration cards you come across an ambush. To resolve this card, you must enter combat mode and defeat the monsters.

1) Because it’s an ambush (Defend), monsters will have the first attack. Normally you would (Attack), which would let you have the first go.

2) When you target an enemy character to attack you can choose from which side to attack giving you some tactical advantage. Archers can also choose from where to shoot an arrow.

3) On the barbarian attack card there is the number 2 on the top left of the card. This is a pre-rolled random number that tells you how much damage you will do with this card on next use. Upon using the card, the number will re-roll based on what the card stats are. This is designed so you still have a random number but also let you maximize your strategy by telling you what the random number is.

Exploration System

During the exploration phase, you draw exploration cards in a sequence until you reach the end of the deck

The world is divided in to areas and each area has its own deck, monsters and artwork. The goal is to make each area as unique as possible both in terms of gameplay and visuals.

Every time you draw a card you must follow the instructions on how to resolve it.

Example
Dead body on the road

When you encounter a dead body on the road you have the option to search for treasure or continue your journey.
If you decide to search you must roll a 1d10 to see what happens

1) The body becomes alive and attacks you
2-6) You find a skill card
7-10) The body is empty

If you encounter some enemies then the game will switch to an isometric battle grid and you will resolve combat by moving and fighting on a tactical grid using miniatures.

The exploration deck is randomized each time you play. For example, The Great Forest area has around 35 cards but only 20 or so will be picked.
