Dead Effect 2 VR

Update released, DLC Cybermagic and Escape from Meridian are now available

The waiting is finally over. Huge game update is now released and both DLC are now available.

Free update contains numerous new improvements and fixes, new weapons, armors, implants, new unique upgrades for weapons and your equipment, allowing you to customize your character and arsenal even more than before.

This DLC unlocks a fourth playable character, Xandria aka Cyberwitch, who specializes in active ability uses. It also adds a lot of new combat abilities that can be used by other characters too, and new unique ability for each of the characters. You can also equip experimental psionic accelerator as a secondary weapon that can interface with your abilities and vastly improve their efficiency. Psi-acc can hold two additional abilities, meaning that you can enter the mission with two combat abilities activated in your Psi-acc and two additional of your choice for support. Burn your enemies with plasma fists or throw fireballs around, summon chain lighning or crush their heads from distance. Depending on your character, you will be able to squeeze heart of your enemy so hard he'll explode, cover the way to your hideout with energy mines, suck energy from nearby enemies to support your offensive abilities, or even summon a melee weapon from pure energy.

This DLC is a story expansion that adds a new story arc with 10 story missions filled with new enemies, new features and some surprises. New enemies of common type, various new boss enemies requiring special tactics, and even some special skills for those you've been hunting before. DLC also adds new levels for other game modes, a new challenging game mode against special enemies, new difficulty level Insanity for those of you who feel that even Hell is too easy, unlockable special setting "INFECTION" for increased difficulty and extra challenge that can be toggled on older missions, and some other small goodies like two new available unique weapons and an unlockable ability to summon an auto-turret to the missions to help you with all those new zombies or just for slaughtering them where you prefer to hunt for loot.

DLC Gameplay Teaser

Full release of the update and both DLCs is just behind the corner.
(And just in case you missed previous announcment, you can already try the update in the beta).

We've put a short video to show some of the stuff that awaits for you.

DLC gameplay teaser

Dead Effect 2 VR Update Beta available

We're finally getting close for a final release of the update and two DLCs we've been working on for so long. Although we've been testing and bug-hunting relentlessly, it's possible that there are still some issues remaining and we'd be grateful if few of you would like to try the update before it goes officially out.

If you want to access the beta, open properties for Dead Effect 2 VR in your Steam library, open BETA´S tab and in the combo box select Public Beta - "testing external".

This will update your version to our latest beta. All your saves from the previous version will be automatically backed-up (to files profile0.sav.updatebackup) in case you would want to revert to the standard version before we'll update it. You might want to back up your data manually before you switch to beta. Then, you can find save files in AppData/LocalLow/Badfly Interactive/Dead Effect 2 VR/ folder on your computer.

Apart from the numerous old bug fixes and some small improvements, the update contains a lot of new content and some handy new features:

- New armor and implant sets and new upgrade modules for them with various unique boosts and bonuses, allowing you to customize your character even more.
- New weapon upgrades - you can now improve or modify your weapons with laser sights, penetrating ammo, scatter ammo and various new special boosts.
- New weapons, each in several variants. There are several small knives, 3 new big melee weapons, 3 secondary firearms including a small submachine gun, a new shotgun, and a new heavy rifle, all waiting to be added to your arsenal.
- A big pile of various unique weapons that can be unlocked by advancing in weapon training and finishing side tasks, bringing a total number of unique weapons to 25. New grenades, combo-weapons like a sniper-modified machine gun, shotgun revolver, powered melee weapon, shotgun modified to a powerful slug thrower...
- Several new side tasks
- Few improvements in the store screens (you can now mark weapons as favorite and filter available weapons based on their type)
- Sniper rifles now have night vision optics with a zoom that can be toggled in the weapon settings.
- Few small QOL improvements for VR that got requested before.

The update also contains necessary data for both upcoming DLCs. These are not yet available, but you can have a glimpse of some of the new stuff that will be available with DLCs.

Info about upcoming DLCs:

CyberMagic DLC unlocks a fourth playable character, Xandria aka Cyberwitch, who specializes in active ability uses. It also adds a lot of new combat abilities that can be used by other characters too, and new unique ability for each of the characters. You can also equip experimental psionic accelerator as a secondary weapon that can interface with your abilities and improve their efficiency. Psi-acc can hold two additional abilities, meaning that you can enter the mission with two combat abilities activated in your Psi-acc and two additional of your choice for support.

Escape from Meridian DLC is a story expansion adding a new story arc with 10 story missions filled with new enemies, new features and some surprises. It also adds new levels for other game modes, a new game mode, special setting for increased difficulty, and some other small goodies like an unlockable ability to summon an auto-turret to the missions to help you with those new zombies.

Dead Effect 2 VR Update Info

After a long time in development, we are getting to the testing phase of all the new stuff that we're preparing for Dead Effect 2 and we thought it was high time to give you some info about what you can expect. There's a ton of small, not so small and big improvements, changes and new content waiting for you!
A lot of those will be contained directly in the standard update, but some will require you to buy a DLC.

The arsenal
There are new implants and armor sets and pieces, often with unique powers, which you can further upgrade or customize with new special modules. You can look forward to a pile of new weapons, both melee, and firearms. New revolvers, pistols, submachine guns, knives, rifles…
There are also some new unique 'ultimate' weapons waiting for you, but you'll have to earn those and it won't be easy.
There are new upgrades for most of the weapons that allow you to further customize your weapons. How about a shotgun modified to fire strong penetrating slugs? Or would you prefer a rate of fire over accuracy with rifles modified to quick burst fire? Is your character specialized in weapons and your suit energy is usually full? Most melee weapons can be now upgraded to use your power for additional damage and chance to stun your enemies! A hammer with a kinetic capacitor that charges with each swing until it releases all stored energy in one strong kinetic burst is a very nice tool to quickly disperse crowds of those annoying zombies!
And there are also several utility upgrades you can mount on some weapon, for example motion scanners and laser sights.

Cybermagic
Meet Xandria, call sign Cyberwitch, our fourth playable character. She's no noob when it comes to standard weapons, but she specializes in combat implant use in the battle and brings a lot of new abilities, mostly direct damage dealing, to the table. Equip her with a psionic accelerator that boosts ability efficiency and watch the world around you burn.
Would you rather stick with your previous character? All original characters will be able to use most of the new abilities and combat tools, but Xandria is the most efficient with them. She's The Cyberwitch after all.

Story Expansion - Escape from Meridian
The fight for control over the ESS Meridian was a stalemate for a while. But now the balance of power is quickly shifting in a way that looks grimmer and grimmer every day…
You can look forward to a lot of story missions (about half in size when compared to the original game), full of new enemies… and these are not your standard variety of dumb space zombies. Whoever controls these new hordes is also teaching new nasty tricks to the standard enemies – but as the elite cyber soldiers you'll adapt and overcome these new threats.
Playing through the story expansion will also unlock some new options, including new special difficulty level “Infected” that will challenge you even when playing through the original missions. And you'll get access to new locations for standard game modes that may contain some interesting loot!

Cheers!

HOTFIXES + Native support for an external motion controller added

Dear community,

We would like to introduce to you a quick update of Dead Effect 2 VR with the native support for the external motion solution 3dRudder, the winner of the CES innovation awards three years in a row since 2016.

3dRudder is an innovative technology company, leader in delivering solutions to virtual reality mobility issues and its newest device 3dRudder Blackhawk was awarded ‘the Best of Innovation Award’ in the Computer Accessories product category at CES 2018 in Las Vegas.

The update also offers some new locomotion options, mainly support for generic external controllers for locomotion, a few bug fixes, and improvements. Please see the official changelog below.

Not everyone has a big room available for room-scale play and some prefer to play comfortably seated. With 3dRudder the seated play moves to a brand new dimension. 3dRudder frees your hand from motion management and lets you fully focus on collecting, shooting, reloading, and killing the enemies. Being able to play comfortably seated for hours is the icing on the cake.

Dead Effect 2 VR now contains a native support both for the upcoming 3dRudder Blackhawk as well as for the existing 3dRudder.

Changelog:

Added:
Added native support for 3DRudder () controller
Added support for external locomotion via keyboard or generic joystick
Added crouch button - click down on controller set to either free rotation or teleport/free rotation to toggle crouch-mode
Added auto sprint toggle
Added holster preset for sitting mode
Changed options (controls now have their own page)
VR advanced settings (floor/height/scale) are now saved to configuration file

Fixed:
Fixed weapon loot pickup that caused frame drops on some machines
Fixed game map rotation
Fixed smooth player rotation
Improved collision detection
Fixed visual material for crossbow
