This is Death or Glory’s first EA major update with new champions and content available now! Go on an adventure with Roxxor the Giant, a warrior that moves slow but throws stones and trees that will hit like a truck! Explore his unique Grapple and Throw mechanics that can control your opponent for the entire turn and follow up with a massive swing that can potentially OTK. Master his resources to go on the latest adventure in the Hollowed Entity where the curses of the dark arcanist have poisoned and drained the swamps from all life itself. This new adventure will feature 3 new Allies and powerful bosses that will test your limits and skills in battle. Find your path to victory by exploring the possibilities and dispel the curse that befell the swamps.

We are also excited to launch our latest feature update for Alternate Art Cards! Players can now use the character setup menu in character select to use alternate arts in battle! Show off your flare in PVP with amazing artwork from our talented artist and expand your collection as more content gets released throughout updates. All skins have now been updated with their themed alternate arts and players will automatically unlock and be able to equip them. The A.T.A.C.R.’s new skin and the Way of the Dragon alternate art is also now stocked in the shop!



Roxxor the Giant
Roxxor is an orphan abandoned by his tribe. He has always called the wilderness his home. Yet prowling beasts looking for an easy meal is but just one danger the young giant has to be mindful of. He was once trapped by voodoo shamans, hoping to capture him as a war slave. But thanks to his childhood friend, Torek the cat, he has escaped such a cruel fate. Now much older and wiser, he manages to carve out a patch of land he can call his own.

Roxxor is the second character from the Warrior class in Death or Glory, making him an ideal champion to gain tempo and disrupt your opponent’s set up every turn. Roxxor uses a unique Grapple and Throw mechanic that first immobilizes his foes, limiting their ability to play cards. Then, he follows up with a powerful throw dealing huge damage to finish off the fight. Master your resources each turn to maximize both offensive and defensive tactics to definitively pave the way for your victory.

New Skins and Alternate Arts
Show off your flare and style with new Alternate Arts in your next adventure! All in-game skins have now been updated with a new alternate art card that showcases new looks on your favorite cards. Equip and use them to reload, attack and restore justice in the battle setup page during the character selection phase.

*Players who have already purchased skins prior to this update will automatically unlock the new items*



Balances Changes

Lee the Dragon Master
The dragon master is now a fully capable and a formidable foe in the arena, battling against mechs and monsters with his bare fists and iron resolve. In the previous balance updates we buffed both his reactions and attacks improving his overall versatility. We noticed that he was getting a bit too strong and his attacks were landing very consistently with powerful effects. We decided to nerf the speed of his damage boost setup so other champions would have a larger window to combat his abilities.

Ally Card - Bottomless Pit
We noticed the consistency of this card has exceeded our original design intentions of it being a bonus rather than a core piece of the deck. Due to the nature of Ally cards not costing resources and how this is essentially a free card to either use or act as a discard, we decided to reduce the chance it will be drawn by 10%. We will be closely monitoring how differently the run will play out in the coming weeks.

Adventure Mode
We have received feedback about the issues with the starting deck dead draw, we are in the works behind the scenes of a better and deeper progression system that will at the same time change how the game mode will work. This change is currently scheduled for 2024 thus for the current version of the game we have increased the reroll chance at the start of the run. We have also adjusted the requirement for map unlocks to the completion of the prologue allowing players to attempt any adventure in any order they choose. Further changes and improvements will be implemented as development progresses.

General Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that will crash the game when clicking on the character guide
  • Fixed a bug that causes the Weekend Bonus Objectives to reset progress after exiting the game
  • Fixed a bug that caused some objective rewards to be unclaimable or cause crashes when trying to do so
  • Updated the visibility of rewards.
  • Improved the performance of the game by lowering VRAM requirements in the loading screen and main menu, future updates will bring improvements and fixes towards the battle page and other features.

Balancing

Lee the Dragon Master
In the last update we adjusted the reaction cards of the dragon master by reducing the action cost thus levitating the opportunity cost of blocking. This update we will adjust the upper and lower strike package to fit in line with other characters. The problem with the existing mechanics is in order for Lee to activate card texts, his strikes must first be successful AND have a corresponding strike in play first. This results in a large restriction to Lee’s play style as every strike that is played becomes premium. We envisioned Lee to be a flexible jack of all trades warrior that can adapt to situations and pull out the correct tools at the right time. We adjusted a number of his strikes to have an effect on success and be boosted when the upper and lower conditions are met, opening up different patterns of play to make way for the dragon age.

Adventure Mode
From feedback and further playtesting we found that the increase of maximum player health disproportianatly benefits different classes, which makes some characters much easier to take down the bosses. We are working on several changes and the implementation of a new hardcore mode to provide a new dimension of challenge which will be coming later in the year. Our first step to balancing the game mode will reduce the maximum health gains on various nodes and rewards, we will keep a close eye on how the gameplay and meta will shift in the coming weeks.

Enigma Sphere
We found the mystical and dangerous ball of death to be a little too soft, unable to deal enough damage that can sustain it’s signature connection abilities. We made a few adjustments to the damage value of it’s cards to increase consistency and enlarge the imposing threat a boss should provide.

General Improvements

  • Made adjustments to loading texture groups further improving performance across the game. PS We have identified certain reasons as to why the current version of the client requires a significant amount of RAM at launch and we are working behind the scenes to fixing it, a further update patch down the line will address this issue.
  • Added Perk description in the hover menu in the Character Mastery progression bar.

Card Balancing

Lee - The Dragon Master
Lee is a master of the dragon arts, with a unique fighting style that emphasizes his flexibility in combat with many tools and mechanics in his arsenal. However it is apparent that in multiplayer, although he has many tools, Lee is often struggling to balance between using his Action Points to attack, or defend. This causes a string of inconsistencies and underwhelming gameplay as the power of his upper and lower strikes come from playing consecutive attacks but he is unable to do that if he has no remaining actions due to blocking. We have adjusted the cost of 3 reaction cards in his deck to make him more versatile and agile towards his other fellow champions.

Redeye the Werewolf
The angry werewolf of the night is a strong menace with his ability to frenzy and launch a barrage of damage boosted attacks whilst having big tempo swings with Leech abilities. However, the power of this monster has a heavy reliance on his turn 1 and whether or not he can start building up Bloodlust. A bad turn one and opening hand can be detrimental to the rest of the match as his deck just can’t run properly when he is controlled with initiative. We have decided to make 2 adjustments that revolve around the consistency of building Bloodlust in order to improve his gameplay experience against other champions in PVP.

A.T.A.C.R All Terrain Armored Combat Robot
From the data and feedback received from the first week of launch, it is evident that our cute and destructive robot needs a cooldown. With explosive firepower and a consistent tempo, it can often be hard to counter or comeback from a fight against an A.T.A.C.R that had a good opening hand. We toned down the long lasting effects of Crippling Volley and lowered the attack damage of B.F.M as the first step. We will continue to be on the lookout for our metal friend and further balancing may come in future balance patches.

Crystal the Ice Faerie
Frozen is a core mechanic of Crystal and acts as an important piece to her puzzle for her survivability and set up. Without frozen, Crystal would take too long to set up and her power cannot compete in a game between opponents of equal health. However we recognise the frustration and hopelessness when up against her, especially if her game plan is to slowly and consistently lock you down. This pacing and continued lock is not what her playstyle intends to promote therefore we adjusted the mana cost of her most reliable Frozen card to reduce the viability of locking down your opponent for multiple turns in the early game.

Keyword - Meditation
Original : "The buff starts at 0 value. Each spell you successfully play adds to its value. At the end of turn, there is 30% chance that value is added to maximum mana.

New : “If you have 2 or more mana remaining at the end of turn, your Arcane Resonance is increased by your Meditation value.

The original ability was hard to control and capitalise on due to its RNG elements. In order to play spells, you would need mana anyways, perpetuating that further only provides niche benefits that would only be a nice to have in niche situations. This new ability provides an alternate path to power up your Arcane Resonance without relying on card success but instead resource management.

Daily and Weekly Objectives


Daily and Weekly Objectives is the main way players will earn Diamonds in Death or Glory – Diamonds can be used to unlock new characters and decks to play with in both PVE and PVP modes.

Players will have a set of three fixed daily and weekly objectives and upon completion on all three, they will earn Diamonds as a reward. These objectives range from logging in to completing an Adventure run where typically the weekly objectives will have a higher requirement for completion. During the weekends, three bonus objectives will also be available for players to complete and completing each one will reward you with a Diamond each. During Early Access, we will be rewarding bonuses and hosting events every month with bonus rewards as new content gets released.

Player and Character Achievements


As you go on adventures, your reputation will build and both player and character specific achievements will be unlocked. Every character will have unique and fun achievements for players to grind for and we plan to add more in future updates. Complete your character mastery to level up your character frames and earn Diamonds upon different milestones. When you reach mastery with 4 achievements for each character, you will earn a Medal, which can be used to buy new skins and cosmetics from the shop.


Character Customization


Every character has their perks and every player has their style. Starting in Early Access, not only can you design your deck, players can now redeem different skins and card backs to pimp out your style in the battlefield. Unlock new items to fill out your collection from the shop and progression track to transform a character into your best self.

The legends described the rulers as neither human nor beast, and they possessed knowledge and wisdom far greater than a mortal’s understanding. Find the source of energy in the central desert and challenge the boss in this new action packed map filled with never seen before cards and opponents that will test the limits of you and your new tools.

This is just the start of our adventure as we have many updates and new content planned for the coming months and years with the first coming in November.

Interview with the winner of our Name the Beast PvP Tournament

September 3rd, 2023 was a special day in the history of Death or Glory! An official PvP tournament was held between members of our community. Many had arrived to test the game during our Open Beta Weekend event. The race was on for new players to quickly learn the game at an advanced level in order to compete. The tournament offered cash prizes, along with the honor of naming a powerful upcoming character. Prior to the tournament, the fearsome reptile, who will be released sometime during the Early Access phase, was only known as “The Beast.”

After a grueling battle, three champions distinguished themselves through exceptional play. Coming in at third place was Agent, a brilliant content creator. A newcomer with the handle Sucrash was second; she worked hard to unlock three characters just moments prior to the start of the tournament! First place was taken by a veteran card game player, Master Tilt.



Q: Master Tilt, congratulations on your glorious win! Can you please tell us a little about yourself?

A: (I am) a lifelong gamer with a great passion for gaming and game design.


Q: How long have you been playing card games? Do you have a favorite?

A: Magic The Gathering came out during my preteens and I really enjoyed playing primarily that for many years, but I had been into other card games like Speed, Blackjack, Poker, Deuces and Uno since I was much younger.


Q: What is your current impression of Death or Glory?

A: It's a very fun and surprisingly unique fighting card game with a fresh art style.

One of the most unique features is its core concept: a 1 on 1 duel between two unique characters that represent archetypes across any genre you can think of, each with very distinct themes and mechanics. Unlike many other games in the genre, it feels "fast-paced" in the sense that almost every turn and choice feels tense, engaging and impactful.


Q: Do you have a favorite character in Death or Glory yet?

A: My favourite character at the moment has to be the character I won the tourney with, A.T.A.C.R. They have some really cool and unique resource management mechanics and some massive risk/reward plays and combos that are very satisfying to pull off. (BFM > D&D. Fight me.)


Q: As someone who grasped the game quite quickly, do you have any tips for new Death or Glory players?

A: Have patience.

Take time to explore each character through the campaigns thoroughly before picking a main character, playstyle or even trying multiplayer. The single-player modes have a variety of challenges that will help players develop a more well-rounded understanding and strategy for each character and unlock more cards that will assist in creating an effective and customized playstyle.

It's also important to have patience within the matches themselves, it's usually ok to PASS and take a little damage to build up a combo, wait for defensive measures, or just to avoid having too great a card deficit.


Q: Enryu, the name you picked for the Beast, is a great fit! Can you tell us a little about how you came up with the name?

A: The name Enryu, like the concept of The Beast itself, is inspired by Japanese lore and Kaiju specifically. The name is rooted in Japanese mythology and is common in Japanese pop culture like Anime and Manga. A: I don't believe beasts of any sort should be caged because of their threat to humans; as this world, this land, this realm, was their domain for an eternity long before our egos were born; and it is in fact humans who have proven themselves the greatest threat to their existence and possibly all of existence itself. May The Beast "Enryu" roam free, because it is we who may one day need them to save us from our own hubris.

Death or Glory Open Beta Week is now LIVE!

Welcome to the Open Beta Weekend!
Get ready for a whole weekend of card battles and showdowns for Death OR Glory! Our open beta will be live starting today September 1st up until September 4th. This weekend will be the first-time players can immerse themselves deep into PvE, PvP and Character Masteries at the same time! Over the past two months, we have been deep into production to build new experiences and revamp our gameplay system. This week, be the first champions to try our new adventure maps, prologue missions, charactery mastery system, join our first online tournament and most important of all, have an AWESOME TIME in the arena.

Play this weekend to unlock the exclusive Demon Claw Skin
Players that play during the Open Beta will receive a special card, avatar, and card back for Redeye, the werewolf. Just complete simple objectives and claim them to unlock these rewards, playable after the Early Access Launch later this month.


PvP Open Beta Tournament
The first Death or Glory PVP tournament is happening on Sunday September 3rd 12:00AM CEST. Players will participate in a series of best-of-3 matches in a single elimination format to become the best champion in the Arena. Winners will be rewarded with cash prizes and the top champion from the tournament will have the honor in naming our new upcoming player character, codename : The Beast. This weekend will be full of joy and tears since there will always be winners and losers. The fight for glory is a tough one but one things for certain, its either Death or Glory!


The Prologue
Explore the world of Corum through a story driven prologue where Spectacle, your trusty guide for adventures, will show you the ropes to being an expert champion. The land of Corum has changed tremendously after the war 100 years ago, and the survivors have now rebuilt and reestablished society with the power of magic and divinity. Find out more by playing through the 3 maps and earn game-wide rewards from our progression system.



Two New Adventure Maps
Based on the feedback we’ve received from our demo, we have remodeled and made a complete overhaul of our original Adventure map. With a new map structure and a larger path variety, players can expect to feel a significant increase in options to draft and craft their deck. Look out for the new treasure chests, new item cards and beware of new ultimate enemies, as they now have more powerful skills at their disposal.

A second map, which we dub the ultimate challenge is reserved only for the toughest champions. We’ve made sure this map will rattle and challenge even the most experienced card game players, so try as you might, we have doubts as to how many of you can survive The Otherworld.

Character Mastery
In our new open beta build, when you play with a character, you will gain experience points that will reward you with new cards and new upgrades to that character. The more you play, the more toys you will get. Try to get as many cards as possible so you can flexibly interact and adapt to any threats your opponents might throw at you in PVP. Whilst in adventure mode, try and build different decks with the two different unlockable perks that will drastically change your playstyle. Just a little spoiler, the A.T.A.C.R missile build is one you want to try with Advanced Rocketry.



A.T.A.C.R joins the fray!
The All-Terrain Assault Combat Robot is finally available in Adventure mode for the first time in the Open Beta Weekend. With over 50 cards you can build its deck with, there is no shortage of weapons you can use with it. The Missile Salvo, B.F.M and Repulsion Field are top tier cards that set it apart from other decks with massive damage potential. Shoot and bomb your opponents with different gadgets and upgrades to experience what it means to be a metallic death and destruction.

Over 100+ new cards and balances
Items, Upgrades, Character, Class cards, we’ve made changes and balanced the card pool of existing cards as well as the many new cards we are implementing. Since our last update, we’re introducing over 20 new mechanics, some class specific, some card specific and a special one reserved for Ally cards. It would be too much to list every single one out, but if you just jump into any match or any map, you are sure to find something new.
