In the last game update we made some changes to the requirements for playing ranked. Firstly, you can now only queue for ranked games as a solo player; improving the integrity of our ranking system, mitigating opportunities for players to team up and unfairly modify the balance of the game.
Secondly, we changed the level requirement from 10 to 12, which doesn't sound like a lot but due to the XP curve it now takes around 50% more time to get to the level requirement for ranked, giving the player time to learn more about game mechanics and prepare themselves better before playing a competitive mode. Thirdly, as a free-to-play game we’ve seen a number of banned players creating new accounts to continue rule-breaking; you now need 3 terrors unlocked to play ranked, which creates a small pay-wall and helps us enforce the rules. Although this isn’t a replacement for our other player moderation systems, we’re happy with the results we’ve seen based on the changes we have made.
So what's next for ranked? After discussion with community, we're now considering the following changes: Reward Improvements - we'd like to change the rewards system so that it doesn’t roll ones which you’ve already unlocked, as well as introduce more meaningful benefits that you can use for the season ahead Seasons Length - we'll be changing season length from 1 month to 3 months to give players time to climb and show off when they reach the top (this includes the perk tree) XP Rates - increase in XP gained in ranked by an additional 10% to reward the effort put in by players, as well as reworking our leaderboards ELO Formula - we’ll be reworking the ELO formula to be resolving issues such as making it less punishing to players who get teammates of a different skill level to them Season Start & End - new interfaces to show clearly the start and end of seasons, and having the season reset at a fixed time Leaving Early - players that quit games before being eliminated will face a wait time before they can requeue
We'll be rolling out these changes over the coming months but in the meantime we'd love to hear your thoughts on them. It’s also worth mentioning that these updates are not set in stone and are subject to change based on testing and feedback. Please leave comments on this post or join the Deceit Discord to discuss with us.
See you in-game! The Baseline Team

Ranked Changes In our last update we mentioned that we’ll soon be looking to rework our ranked system in order to make it more competitive, and rewarding for our top players. We’re excited to implement this in the coming updates, and we’re really thankful for everyone who’s posted feedback on Discord. In the mean-time we’ll be updating the current ranked system with the following changes, please note that these aren’t the rank reworked mentioned, and is a short-term measure to help improve the quality of ranked games.
The minimum level required to play ranked has been increased from level 10 to 12. This will require all new players to get 50% more XP before they’re able to join the ranked queue.
To join the ranked queue, players are now required to own at least 3 of the 4 terrors.
The ranked queue has been changed so you’re only allowed to queue as a solo player.
Patch Notes

Along with map fixes, we’ve partially restricted the ability to jump really high. A more complete fix will come in the future.
October Update | Halloween 2019 In-game event
Hello everyone! We know it’s been a while since we last spoke, and we have a lot to fill you in on.
As some of you may already be aware, Automaton, the original Deceit studio, closed its doors at the end of July. We are Baseline Games - a new studio with some familiar faces from the original Deceit team. We have acquired the game and are going to be bringing back regular updates. First of all, we want to thank everyone at Automaton for all of their hard work over the years. With this foundation, we are confident that there’s an exciting future in store!
Halloween 2019
Firstly, we are excited to announce that for 2 weeks starting from Saturday 26th of October, we’ll be bringing back our highly anticipated Halloween ‘trick or treat’ event. Halloween themed items and decorations will be appearing throughout the Asylum, Forest, Arctic and Manor. You can collect candy to obtain all-new exclusive icons and Halloween-themed cosmetics for all playable characters, and purchase limited edition loot booth tokens. Make sure to gather your friends to get your spook on, as these limited items won’t be available for long!
Along with the Halloween event we’ll be providing a number of quality of life updates to the game, including fixes for a number of map exploits, new anti-cheat, improving the requirements for ranked, and giving more power to our community moderators.
Lumberyard Map Status
We are also aware that is important for us to address the elephant in the room: ‘What is happening with the Lumberyard map?’. Those of us involved in the update last Halloween made a mistake: we bit off more than we could chew by trying to build a new map from scratch with the very limited time we had available. We still intend to release this and other new map updates, but the Lumberyard is not currently to the quality we deem acceptable for such an important update. However, we now have some resources available for Deceit development, and we’re up for the challenge, so we look forward to bringing it to you soon!
New Ranked Season
The new ranked season starts tomorrow, Monday 7th October at 21:00 GMT. We’re planning on introducing some changes to ranked in the near future, to improve the way it works and the end of season rewards on offer. The exact changes aren’t confirmed yet, but we’ll be discussing them with you on Discord over the next few weeks.
Future Updates
Looking beyond Halloween, you can expect the return of regular updates to Deceit. We plan on applying all of the knowledge we have learned over the past 2 years working on other projects into Deceit, and we are confident you’ll see the fruits of our labour very soon. Expect stability improvements, optimisations (over 2 years worth of engine patches coming soon!), advanced anti-cheat detection, and an array of new content.
At the end of the Halloween event we’ll be posting an announcement about our plans for the rest of 2019. In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts on Discord. We know that Deceit has a lot of untapped potential, and we look forward to playing with you all.
See you in-game! The Baseline Team
April Update | New Map
Dear all,
We've been working hard on the new map update, however, this is taking longer than previously expected. We are looking to release this as soon as possible and will share more information with you when we can.
Thanks for your patience.
March Update
Hi all,
Following on from our announcement in January, we wanted to give you an update to what’s happening with Deceit.
Firstly, we’re going to be releasing an update shortly which will provide further server-stability & countermeasures in the case of direct, intentional attacks by malicious members of the community. As a reminder to all members of the community, we take any threat to Deceit or the enjoyment of our players seriously, and anyone found to be violating our community rules of conduct will be punished including possibly being permanently banned from the game.
We’re also looking to release the map to you by the end of April. We’ll look to share photos of the new area before we share this with you in the community.
As we announced back in January, the studio’s focus is on other projects, primarily Mavericks: Proving Grounds. We have plans to bring a number of the new technical capabilities we are developing for Mavericks back into Deceit. We don’t expect these new features to make their way over until next year, as we focus the studio on other projects.
We can’t wait to show you the new map and let us know what you think in the comments or on Discord.
Deceit Lunar Sale
Hi all,
As part of the Steam Lunar Sale, both the Vampire Pack DLC and the Werewolf Pack DLC are available for 20% off their regular price!
On top of the new playable Terror's, these packs also include GM Credits, Loot Booth Tokens, additional melee weapons and in-game cosmetics.
We hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year and are enjoying Deceit now that Halloween has finally finished. We wanted to provide you with an update with what’s going on in the studio at the moment and what’s coming up in the short- and longer-term for Deceit.
In the short term, the studio’s priorities are primarily focussed on other projects, primarily Mavericks: Proving Grounds. This won’t come as a surprise to many of you. Because of this, the game is not going to be heavily developed from a technical standpoint for the next 6+ months – this means no major updates, no substantial new changes.
However, you were promised a new map and we are working on this presently.
Many in the studio still want to help Deceit grow and develop and so, on their own time, teams are helping finalise the new map before we share it with you all. Exact timelines are unknown currently, but we expect to share this before the end of March.
This doesn’t mean Deceit is dead, far from it. With the new platform and technology going into Mavericks, the studio’s plan is to bring over some of these new capabilities into Deceit. This will however take time and we expect for these substantial changes to be incorporated towards the end of 2019.
So, with so little happening technically, and future plans a long way off, what are we doing in the interim? We plan on doing a number of community-focused activities and events including in-game tournaments, competitions (e.g. Fan Art, Cosplay), amongst some other initiatives which we’ll be sharing more information about in the coming weeks.
Let us know what you think about what’s coming up on our Discord, we’d appreciate the feedback and comments you have.
The End of Halloween and Double XP Weekend Event
Hi all,
We’ve left you in the dark without any updates or communications about what’s happening with Deceit. So first thing, we’re sorry.
We’ve been putting a lot of resource into Mavericks: Proving Grounds and this has left our team thin-on-the-ground, to say the least. Not an excuse, just a reason. You have bought into a game and we should have kept you all informed.
So what’s coming up for Deceit? Immediately, many of you will be happy to know that Halloween has finally finished. Whilst we aren’t going to be running any Christmas events, we are going to be holding a Double-XP weekend event this weekend from 00:00 GMT 22/12/18 till 23:59 GMT 23/12/18.
Staff will be taking some time off over the holiday period for some well-deserved rest, and we are looking to bring further updates to Deceit in the New Year.
We’re still in the process of developing the Lumberyard map and would like to grant assurances that it will be coming in the new year.

When used, the Vampire temporarily shape-shifts into a swarm of bats to traverse the vent system at hellish speed leaving a puff of smoke in your wake. Know where the innocents are hiding or need a quick getaway from those trying to down you? The “Swarm” active places you exactly where you want to be almost instantly to give you that terror advantage.
Additionally, when playing as an innocent you’ll gain access to an exclusive new Stake melee weapon to defend yourself against deadly vampiric attacks.
The Vampire pack also includes an exclusive Vampire Emblem, 10 loot booth tokens to help you get even more cosmetic gear for your character and 200 GM tokens to put towards your next item or use with the Reputation system to show appreciation to your favourite fellow players.
Wakizashi! Linked to this we’ve added a special something for those people who unlock both the Vampire and Werewolf packs. Do this and you’ll get your hands on a traditional Japanese sword known as the Wakizashi; a new legendary melee weapon!
Lumberyard Map (Coming Soon)
Last but definitely not least, a new map we’re calling The Lumberyard!
We’re making our final polishes (to the wood) and will talk more about it leading up to the release very soon.
