Deceit

v4.5.0 - Challenge System

Hey all,

We're extremely excited to announce that with patch v4.5.0 comes one of the biggest updates to Deceit that has happened in a long time, and the first of many to come this year. Without further ado, let's get into it...

Challenge System

Overview

Challenges are composed from a set of tasks that, when completed, allow players to earn a variety of rewards including XP & rare Emblem unlocks. Starting with this update we'll be rolling out daily challenges, with further expansions planned for the near future. Challenges can be viewed, and activated, from the main menu. Once in-game, players can check what challenges they have active by using the 'Q' menu.

Challenge Slots

Starting from the moment you first play Deceit, players will unlock slots to place their challenges in. There are a total of 6 slots that one can unlock through levelling up, with the last slot being made available at level 50. In order to progress a challenge you must first activate it, putting it into an empty slot. Players can also opt to deactivate a challenge to free up that slot back up again. Deactivating a challenge will clear any progress made on it and will return it to the set of available challenges.

Challenge Types

There are two types of challenges, single and double. Single challenges are the most basic version, simply complete the set of tasks within the challenge to earn the reward. With double challenges there's a little more to it, tasks are split into "Innocent" and "Infected" sections. Tasks in these sections can only be progressed when you're playing as the associated team. Once you've completed the tasks under one team you're able to hand in the challenge to earn that team's rewards. Happen to prefer the other team's rewards? No problem. Completing both sides of the challenge enables you to choose which set of rewards you'd prefer.

Daily Challenges

Refreshing every day at midnight UTC, players will receive a collection of 8 challenges ranging from easy difficulty to very hard. These challenges are randomly generated from a set of tasks, combined to reach the required difficulty.

Provided you meet the required level, dailies can be activated from the main menu. This allows you to progress it and ensures it won't expire. Dailies that aren't activated will automatically expire at midnight, removing them from your list of available challenges. If you deactivate a challenge and it has passed its expiry time it will also be automatically removed.

Each daily has a randomly generated set of rewards with harder challenges offering better rewards. These currently include:
  • XP
  • GM Credits
  • Loot Booth Tokens
  • Challenge Chips

Along with the above there is also a unique emblem available to be unlocked per each challenge difficulty. The rarity of these emblems are as follows:
  • Easy - 1/100
  • Medium - 1/150
  • Hard - 1/200
  • Very Hard - 1/250

Challenge Chips

Challenge chips allow you to perform a set of actions on your daily challenges. You'll earn one of these per day, at the same time as your daily challenge regeneration, capping at 5. These can also be earned from challenges, earning them this way allows you to temporarily break the cap. Once you've got a challenge chip you can use it from within the main menu's challenge interface in order to:
  • Share - All other players in your game will automatically help you progress your challenges for you. You will still get the full reward from the challenge.
  • Boost - Automatically complete a challenge but only earn 50% of the XP reward and nothing else.
  • Reroll - Generate a replacement challenge with the exact same difficulty and expiry time.
  • Extend - Add 24h to the expiry time of the challenge.

Easter Event - Coming Next Week

Soon the Easter Bunny will be passing through to do their yearly collection of Easter eggs. Whilst they're here players will be able to acquire an array of new Easter-themed rewards through earning Easter points from finding eggs in-game, challenge rewards & the loot booth.

On top of the above we'll be using the new challenge system to bring those that opt into purchasing an Event Pass a brand new Easter storyline to be played through. As players progress along the story they will earn new, limited time, Easter-themed rewards, as well as extra Easter points to spend.

Those participating can expect to be able to acquire a hopping mad Yeti, Nina after a chocolate eating contest, Chang on the Easter Bunny's shoulders, and so much more. We'll also be putting the previous year's Easter cosmetics into the loot booth for players to obtain again.

Make sure you get online during the 2 week long event to grab what you can!

Patch Notes

  • Challenge stats have been added to the player profiles.
  • The character you're currently playing as is now shown at the bottom left of the screen.
  • Further improved our ability to identify, and debug, live server issues.

Chinese Servers

Today we're releasing an update to the Chinese region. We've noticed a large proportion of games in China fail to start and so we've updated our server infrastructure to support another cloud provider, this should allow for better connectivity for Chinese players.

Russian Localisation

We've improved our Russian translation.

Easter Event

We will be releasing an Easter event soon, stay tuned for more info next week!

Patch Notes - 12.03.2020

Server Infrastructure Improvements

Over the past few updates, we have been reworking our backend infrastructure in order to support a larger number of players online concurrently. You may have noticed over the past week that during certain periods of the day, you would be stuck on "Game Found" when attempting to queue for a game. This was normally due to there not being enough dedicated game servers available to deal with the number of games being started, and our infrastructure was not scaling quickly enough to deal with the demand. This update brings a overhaul of the infrastructure providing dedicated game servers, with the aim of improving the reliability and speed of starting games. We will be able to start more games concurrently and have the ability to scale faster than before.

  • Cosmetics introduced in seasonal events will now display the release year & type of event that they came from. This can be seen in your cosmetics tab within your profile.
  • First time players will be randomly assigned a preferred character instead of being defaulted to Alex.
  • Added a new detection method to the anticheat and further refined existing methods.

Bug Fixes

  • FIXED - Players can instantly place a trap down by performing an animation cancel.
  • FIXED - Redistribution users can pick up exploded traps.
  • FIXED - Terrors can perform multiple executions without the required amount of blood.
  • FIXED - Players downed in the gas gain blood from Revitalise when they are automatically revived.
  • FIXED - Character cosmetic changes in the main menu aren't replicated to other party members.
  • FIXED - Switching preferred characters in the main menu results in other party members seeing the default cosmetics for your new character.
  • FIXED - Players in-queue are incorrectly transitioned to 'Game Found' before a server is ready for them to use.

v4.4.0 - New Perks, Season Reset & Anticheat

Hey all,

Firstly we'd like to thank everyone that participated in our event to celebrate Deceit's 3rd birthday. A whopping 36,000 players showed up throughout the day with about 15% of you earning the now not-so-secret emblem! For those that didn't quite manage to work out how to collect it, you needed to win 3 games back-to-back. Now, onto the patch notes...

New Perk Tree & Season Reset

This update marks the start of a new in-game season bringing a brand new perk tree to complete and resetting in-game ranks. The new tree contains a set of 5 new perks as well as 2 new emblems to unlock.

New Innocent Perks

  • Solar Powered - Torches slowly recharge when the lights are on.
  • Speedy Recovery - Health packs also instantly heal for 25 upon pickup.
  • Spotting - Trackers can now be placed on blood bags, showing an outline of the blood bag's state. This tracker displays only to you and is destroyed upon taking damage.
  • Redistribution - You're able to pick your traps back up again.

New Infected Perk

  • Revitalised - Gain half a slice of blood when revived by an innocent player.

For the eager amongst you, the next season reset is currently earmarked for the 2nd of April. We'll confirm exactly when a bit closer to the time.

Anticheat

We're happy to announce that with patch v4.4.0, we'll be rolling out our first iteration on anticheat. This initial version will highlight any suspicious activity directly as part of our player report viewing tool. Alongside this, activity that we're confident to classify as cheating will result in automatic permanent bans. Dealing with cheaters will be an ongoing task but we anticipate that this will be a good step towards improving our in-game experience.

General

  • When reporting a player you will no longer see your name as an option.
  • Restricted the amount of XP available to be earned per-game through lethal injecting players, antidoting players, casting votes or placing traps.
  • Silhouettes for blood bags now disappear when you're close to them.
  • The unlit birthday cake emblem now describes how it was obtained.
  • Made a minor performance improvement to our backend server.
  • Replaced one of the guaranteed torch spawns in the first zone with a spawn that randomises between a torch and a tracker.

Bug Fixes

  • FIXED - The ranked progress UI element on the main menu has non-translated text.
  • FIXED - The server crashes when invalid data is sent to it in a specific way.
  • FIXED - Games where players earn 0 XP are occasionally not displayed in the match history.

v4.3.6 Patch Notes

After our release last Thursday we rolled out a hotfix to address some bugs. The patch notes for that release are below.
  • FIXED - The ranked button is greyed out on first load for players who meet all the requirements to play ranked.
  • FIXED - Viewing characters for offline players doesn't always load their cosmetics.
  • FIXED - Party members remain hidden after viewing your cosmetics for your characters.
  • FIXED - After viewing another player's terror skin and then leaving their profile your cosmetics aren't re-loaded.

Our 3rd Birthday!

On March 3rd 2017 Deceit came out of the early-access womb and became a fully released game on Steam. This means that today is our 3rd birthday, and we want to celebrate with you!

For today only, test subjects will receive double XP whilst playing Deceit, and taking part in our birthday celebrations will unlock you a new emblem. For the more dedicated deceivers there is a second emblem to be unlocked today, however we're leaving that to you to figure out.

Additionally, some of the developers will be hopping on at some point throughout the day to celebrate with the community.

The event will run from Midnight March 3rd to Midnight March 4th GMT.

Happy Birthday to us, and a massive shout out to everyone who's played Deceit over the years!

Thanks,

The Baseline Games Team

Based on feedback, we've decided that we will not be changing the season length from 1 to 3 months in this update. We are first working on new ranked rewards, which we expect to roll out from the end of the March season. We’ve been working on changes to the queue dodging system, and these will be rolling out over the course of this month.

What are the new rewards?
This year’s event rewards are visible on the event screen which is available in the top left of the main menu. You can also use this to track your progress towards the next reward and your overall progress throughout the event.
