Deflector
Tips & Tricks #2
We hope you liked our previous Tips & Tricks drop, because we’ve got a new one for you!
1. Enemies only get aggroed at a certain range. Clear only those you have already engaged to manage a smaller number of enemies, or roam the arena fast to group your enemies together!
2. Blood ponds and rivers in Living Entrails will slow you down! You won’t drown from stepping into them, but unless you have a dash ready you might end up too slow to dodge incoming projectiles.
3. The poison in Toxic Sea does not damage you until the poison bar is completely filled. The bar also empties over time. Dipping your toe in the poison to dodge certain attacks (especially when fighting the Tentacles) won’t immediately damage you. Just be careful not to spend too much time exposed to it.
4. When you have a choice between deflecting or dashing to defend yourself, always go for deflection. Ending up without a dash at the crucial moment all but guarantees you’ll take damage.
5. Large spike bullets always split into several smaller bullets when they collide with anything, even with other enemies. Watch out for where they impact so you can be ready to deal with each projectile!
As always, we’d love to hear what sorts of tactics you’ve come up with while playing Deflector. Share away in the comments!
Updated roadmap
The world of Deflector may be microscopic, but there are big things happening! Our previous update added a brand new location and its associated Apex Virus. Now let’s talk about what’s coming. We are happy to present an update to our roadmap.
The 4th update to Deflector is on the way, bringing with it a number of major additions and updates. No doubt the addition of a new specimen for you to play as is the big highlight here, but that’s not all! Current specimens are going to get some love and some updates as well. We will be introducing changes to the way they mutate and the way you acquire unique variants on their play style. You can look forward to a more detailed summary of which direction each of them is going.
The Source of the virus, serving as your final challenge and last boss of the game, is getting an update as well. Bigger, meaner, with gameplay and visuals reworked!
That’s Q3. Moving forward you can expect another major update in the last quarter of this year. It will add new Elite enemies, expand the pool of available mutations, introduce new types of rooms and mix up the DNA table.
Then it’s on to a full release in Q1 2023! There’s a lot to look forward to and we can’t wait for you to experience it firsthand. Keep an eye out for more!
Tips & Tricks #1
Deflector has plenty of creatures big and small shooting, spitting, spewing and throwing bullets at you. We’ve compiled some helpful tips that just might help you prevail!
The Hive enemy from Hollow Hive spawns new larvae as soon as you kill the ones alive, so focus on killing the Hive first or it will keep spawning new enemies!
Giant Centipedes remain idle for 3-4 seconds after each attack. That’s your window for the damage phase. Do as much damage as you can!
Collector and Venator provide information on traits and nucleoli you already have and unlock conditions for those you don’t. Pay them a visit from time to time!
Biomes increase in difficulty as you complete them. Choose the order in which you clear worlds wisely.
Study your route before choosing the next node on the map. Otherwise you might lock yourself out of a crucial visit to the shop or lose the opportunity to heal mid-run. Be mindful of your path if you want to make it to the end.

Deflector Early Access Hotfix - 0.73f
A hotfix has been released for the current version of Deflector. The following changes have been implemented:
Solved an issue causing the mutation shop to crash when everything was unlocked.
Added collision to the structure near the specimen pods.
Some text corrections have been made to the English translation.
🛠 Hivestorm update is out today!
The wait is over! The Hivestorm update is out today! We think it’s a good time to recap all that there is to see in the new world and beyond it.
Travel into the Hollow Hive
The Hollow Hive is the fourth world in Deflector. A world of soil and the skittering sound of insect legs. The virus here clearly took inspiration from some creepy crawlies, and they’re coming for you as you intrude on their violent domain.
At the top of the food-chain here are the Giant Centipedes. This deadly trio will keep you on your toes not just with projectiles, but with rapid burrowing and reemerging from the ground. Stay on the move. There’s little room to wait patiently for the shots to reach you.
If you can overcome the Giant Centipedes, you’ll be rewarded with one of two powerful mutations tied to your active ability.
Rock Skin surrounds you with a shell of stone, making you invincible for a short period of time.
Inner Roots releases a wide cobweb that roots all enemies affected.
We know you probably can’t wait to challenge the Hollow Hive, but let’s not forget the other three worlds. Living Entrails, Toxic Sea and Magnetic Fields all got new locations to explore. So revisit them, especially if you’ve yet to best the Apex Viruses at the end of them.
Remember, after each defeated Apex Virus your subsequent runs will get harder. You only need to beat three Apexes to face the Core, so choose your path wisely!
Along with new content, this update also brings some improvements:
Updated Hunter UI
Updated Mutation Shop UI
Better homing on deflected projectiles
Increased base healing amount when resting at a Safe Point
Reduced Gunslinger turret duration
Fixed bug causing interaction messages not properly disappearing after exiting to the menu
We’re excited to bring you this update and are looking forward to your feedback. Have fun and stay in touch!
What goes “bump” at the end of the Hollow Hive?
Ready to see what goes “bump” at the end of the Hollow Hive? Well we are ready to reveal it. Meet the Giant Centipedes. That’s right, "Centipedes" plural. As if one of these crawling monstrosities wasn’t enough, you’ll be facing several at a time.
They come with a variety of attacks, from projectiles to their multiple ways of traversing the area. What’s more, you should be prepared for them to mix and match these attacks.
Prepare to deflect their shots while on the move and watch out for signs of one of these deadly creatures emerging from the ground.
Like the other Apex Virus bosses in Deflector, they’ll drop a powerful mutation - the nucleolus, if you can best them. Our next entry will most likely come together with the update that’ll bring the Hollow Hive to you.
So look forward to it, and until then, stay in touch!
