This week we begin to dive deeper into the unique threats and foes that the player encounters in DESOLATE, starting off with some of the more commonly seen enemies - The Madmen and The Hunter.
We’ll delve deeper into the flora and fauna of Granichny Island, as well as the weapons you’ll use to survive against it. Stay tuned for more in the coming days!
The Madmen

Before the event, “Madmen” used to be regular people living their lives on Granichny - now they’re nothing but rambling shadows of their former shelves. One of the United Republic of Soviets’ most popular scientific publications, “The Saturn”, described their altered state as “a kind of mental fissure”. To be more precise - something new entered their being, and remained there. Something alien.
Despite being quite a nimble and tricky foe to fight, a single madman is not that threatening. However, if you alert him of to your presence - Madman yells and growls will instantly attract more of their kind.
The Hunter

The Hunter can appear behind your back at any second - and you wouldn’t even know it. And if you do - it’s probably going to be too late.
It may very well just be a rumor, but there’s a tale going around Granichny about The Hunter: he used to be a serial killer, who became a test subject for New Light’s Matter Converter. Due to technical miscalculations, the psychopathic killer mysteriously disappeared - only to come back several days later, in his “transformed” state.
Fighting a Hunter is extremely tough - one moment you swing your weapon to bash his skull in, the other - he’s already teleported away, preparing to strike at any second.
