Back in 2022, we mentioned the possibility of increasing the base price of Devour, but we decided to wait until what we felt was a more appropriate time.
From September 27th 2024, the price of Devour will be set to $9.99. (Note that Steam implements regional pricing for different countries)
Devour was created in 2021 by 2 friends. Back then, it was just a hobby project. There was only 1 map and almost no extra features. If you were lucky, you would get a single hour worth of gameplay! Almost 4 years later, DEVOUR has changed shape drastically. We've released many maps and features since then and our team has grown too.
We often hear from our community that they would have been happier paying a little more for the game, and we are really grateful for your generosity. This will allow us to continue developing DEVOUR to a high quality level.
We are incredibly excited to announce that DEVOUR's brand new map The Manor is now available to play for free for players who own the game! Check out the trailer here:
So, it's been a while, and you've been patient. The Manor is a departure from previous DEVOUR maps in more ways than one, and this has taken time to get right. With The Manor, we wanted to (finally) do a classic haunted house map. Incorporating the chilling, ghostly feel of this genre with DEVOUR's essential foundation of intense, visceral co-op gameplay was a challenge.
Half way through the map's development, we went back to the drawing board. We re-made most of the mechanics for the map, as well as some assets, because things just didn't feel right. It wasn't scary enough. And before anything else, we believe DEVOUR should be scary!
The Manor Gameplay
The Manor introduces April North as the possessed cult member. After her fiance is killed on the day of their wedding, she uses wedding guests as sacrifices to summon the demon Azazel. April begs him to open Portals to the Realm of the Dead so that she can search for her lover's soul.
Players can move between Realms by using these Portals (mirrors). Both Realms are the same environment, but with some different properties and possibilities. In order to reverse the ritual and banish Azazel from April's possessed body, you'll be working to reunite the bodies of the sacrificed dead to their severed heads. We'll leave it to you to figure out exactly what you'll need to do. As GLaDOS said, just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake.
Check out what else is included in The Manor update in the full changelog at the end of this post - we've also fixed a ton of issues across the game in general.

DEVOUR players, it's time for the official trailer of our upcoming new map, The Manor. Check it out now!
The Manor will release on September 19th 2024 at 1pm PT. As with our previous maps, The Manor will be available for free to anyone who already owns DEVOUR. We'll drop another Steam news post on release day with some more info on what's included in the update. It's almost time...
We've been hard at work on the upcoming new map, The Manor, in advance of its release this September. We are aiming for a release date of September 19th. Internal playtesting has begun, and we're already excited by how it's all coming together. We know it's been a longer wait this time, so thanks for sticking with us! Read on for a sneak peek at some of the original assets our team has designed for The Manor (click to enlarge).
Cursed Heads A quick heads up (sorry, we couldn't resist) on our newest ritual object. As terrifying as these ghoulish heads are, they won't be chasing you. You might have to chase them, however... Anyone got some spare gloves?!
Mirrors Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the scariest of them all? No haunted house is complete without a creepy mirror. There are multiple mirrors around the map, and we've worked hard to make them reflective, meaning you'll see yourself in them, other players, and even April. The mirrors are part of an important mechanic never seen before in a DEVOUR map - the ability to travel between two, playable realms. We can't wait for you to find out more when The Manor releases!
Font The font was designed in a classic Victorian style, as was much of the map. You'll be visiting it frequently in The Manor. Any guesses why?
Boar Platter Looks like one of The Slaughterhouse boars made it out alive. For a little while, at least.
Wedding Cake This stunning asset was designed to highlight that the manor was the venue for a wedding abandoned at the last minute. If nobody even had time for cake, something REALLY bad must have gone down.
We think The Manor is DEVOUR's creepiest, most chilling map yet, with a classic haunted house vibe. After all, we all love a good ghost story! There will also be balance of outside and inside areas, something players have told us they enjoy about our original map The Farmhouse.
Thanks again for your patience and support as we work on The Manor. We can't wait to welcome you in...
We're thrilled to bring you a new, chilling teaser trailer for our upcoming map The Manor! Check it out below:
As we previously revealed, the Manor is due for release in September 2024. As with our previous maps, The Manor will be available for free to anyone who already owns DEVOUR. We'll post a precise release date closer to the time.
Until then, hold onto your goats while we put the finishing touches to our creepiest map yet. Stay tuned for the full official trailer as we plan to release that shortly before the map is released.
Fixed an area on Farmhouse where goats could fall through the ground
Fixed an issue with controllers being unable to switch between perk groups
Challenges and collectables progress will not be lost if there was an issue writing them to Steam Cloud
v4.3.8
The Lockboxes Unlocked challenge now only correctly tracks lockboxes that you opened yourself. This was the intended behaviour but there was a bug that allowed server hosts to get unlocks that other players made.
v4.3.7
Prevented spiders on the Inn falling underneath the Onsen entrance
Fixed an issue where the outfits of some players joining lobbies were not visible to other players
The trapper and inspired perks now work correctly on Slaughterhouse
Fixed an issue where tracking progress for the Destroy Ritual Items challenge would be incorrect
4.3 Update: Extra perk slot, challenges, stats & much more!
Hello, demon slayers!
We've dropped some awesome new content for our 4.3 update, but before we get into that, some news about our new upcoming map, The Manor.
Originally, we gave Q2 2024 (April - June) as the expected release date for the map. We need to delay its release until September 2024. To be transparent about why: during early playtesting, we found that April (possessed by Azazel), and the map itself, weren't working the way we had hoped. In general, it didn't feel scary enough, so we went back to the drawing board and we're now implementing some major improvements.
We know the delay will come as a disappointment to some of you, and we're genuinely sorry. That said, we never put out content unless we are proud of it. We're going to take the time we need to get the map right. We've always wanted to get our yearly map releases closer to the Halloween period, which we will now be able.
Please remember that we never charge for new content. We love DEVOUR, and we want to be able to continue making quality content for it. However, sometimes these things take more time than expected. We're working super hard on the game and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.
We're releasing a teaser trailer for the map soon, so keep an eye out!
Now, onto what's included in 4.3 - there's a lot to keep you busy over the summer!
Extra Perk Slot
We recently shared a perks feedback form with the community and we'd like to thank everyone who took the time to fill it in. There were so many useful thoughts and amazing ideas shared. As a result, we've overhauled the system, introduced some great new perks, and added a second perk slot, so players can equip two perks at the same time (a much requested feature in the feedback).
Note that all perks are split into 2 categories. You can only pick a single perk from each category.
New Perks
INSPIRED: Ritual items are highlighted for 10 seconds after increasing map progress
KEYMASTER: Keys are highlighted through walls
PATIENT: UV charge regenerates 125% faster when in hiding spots
TEAMWORK: UV charge depletes 25% slower when within 5 meters of any alive player
STAY BACK: Movement speed of Azazel's minions is decreased by 50% when last player alive (co-op only)
Weekly Challenges
Regular challenges have been a popular request for a while now, and we've been hard at work implementing something that we hope will give you even more reason to jump into a DEVOUR run!
Challenges reset every Wednesday (UTC time). Each challenge is tied to a specific map and difficulty, with one for each difficulty mode. Challenges can only be completed once. You'll be granted a large chunk of EXP for completing a challenge and finishing a map (win or lose). If you leave a game early, you'll lose all challenge progress you gained during that game and won't gain any EXP. You can access the list of challenges from the main menu or Lobby.
Player Statistics
Global player statistics have been added to the game. You can access these from the Options menu. There were a few stats which we had not been tracking properly up until now so you'll notice some of your stats will start from 0.
Nameplates
You can now toggle on Nameplates from the Options menu. They will not render through walls and are only visible up to a certain distance.
New Emotes
4.3 also introduces 5 new dance themed character emotes - if you ever wanted to twerk as Zara or do the snake as Kai, now you can!
Outfits & Flashlight Skins
Check out these fun, fresh new outfits for the Cultist and Zara, and two awesome new flashlight skins.
Note: Zara's 'Screamer' outfit and the 'Glitterbomb' flashlight skin are only available with the Supporter's Edition.
Closing 3 regions
We are dropping regions South Africa, India and Canada from the server browser. These regions were barely being utilized and so it should also help in funneling more players into a more populated region. Note that actual gameplay for Devour is handled directly between the host player and clients so once you're in a game together it doesn't matter which region you hosted on.
