Dialtown: Phone Dating Sim

Updated footage with OST, progress updates and more! (13/08/19)

Hello, kids of yonder!

I updated the intro footage:

Oh, right, so, I finally got around to updating the intro footage, aka, replacing the background music with the finished music tracks. Yep, Dialtown has a COMPLETE original score, composed by the great Nathan Hanover! The footage is uploading to the Steam page as I'm writing this, so here's a direct youtube link, in case it's still processing when you read this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4Q3OTD9Fgg
The final theme used is the Dialtown main theme, and boy am I loving this game's soundtrack! Old man Hanover really excelled, I tell ya what.

"BUT WHAT ARE YOU UP TO, YOU LAZY MUTT?!"

Fair question. Atm, I'm preparing to wrap up the FIRST romance route. Randy, who works at a phone-sex hotline part-time (and wrangles swans for Dialtown animal control using the REST of his time) can be found and dated in-game. His route has about 6-7 endings, ranging from short and comedic for certain bad choices, to longer and more meaty for others, with bad, neutral and good endings for different choices!

Yep! That's Randy for ya! The game isn't entirely stock images, btw, some of the images, like Randy's phonehead and body were taken by yours truly for better visual consistency and pose variety! No more instantly changing shirts/lighting, like in DSaF, heh, and even some special poses for certain moments/endings and props 'n' whatnot.

Exciting!

I'll post another screenshot or two from his route next devlog. Progress has been rampant lately, and all of his route assets are basically done! So, uhhh- Yeah. Thanks for following Dialtown development.

Big update coming very soon!

Apologies for the lack of updates. I've been MAJORLY working on Dialtown for the last few weeks and a lot of promising progress has been made!

In the next week or so, expect biiiig updates on the project. Not (Release date) or (demo) big, but more so a lot of content teasing and an exact look at how progress has been on my end!

I'll see you then!

Quick update:

Hey, it's me!

Okay, this is gonna be REALLY informal and short. So, thanks for the support y'all gave me in my last devlog! My boyfriend is actually over rn, so I'm taking a few weeks from development, but rest assured, I'll get back to heavy development soon.

I've spoken to a few very talented creators who are up to helping with smaller bits and pieces for Dialtown, which is super exciting! I'll update you guys on total development a bit sooner than last time (AKA: LESS than a whole month away this time.)

Really just wanted y'all to know I'm still really excited about the project and that neither I, nor the project, is dead in the water, or in Dialtown's case: womb-juice :)

Ciao for now!

Dev update (21/06/19)

Heyo! Just writing this so I can get back to development. Not gonna bother headering this, since it'll just be a quick/informal devlog.

So, irl shit has been kinda bad lately, but y'know, everyone has ups and downs. I've been pretty ill lately, which means I haven't been working on Dialtown as much as I would've hoped, but with the sickness getting worse and me taking some time off for medical leave, I might just have more time to work on Dialtown, which is a plus.

One of the routes is 1/3 done and polished, and I finished a new scene today, bridging the intro to the start of the second act. So, progress as of late has actually been solid. Several backgrounds are now done, and I'm working on filling in the town a little more too with some smaller non-route interactions. Have a WIP scene encounter image, courtesy of dog:

Will probably update this in a few weeks, maybe in early July. Thanks!

Update 02/06/19, OST teaser!

Hey all, it's me, the dog.

So, like, another month, another devlog. I did well holding off writing this, lemme tell you that much, because boy, oh boy, have I been busy. Shit's a little crazy at work rn, with me helping clean up a mess that corporate left us, and training a new employee, but hey, the time that I (and my partner, as you will soon see) have put into developing Dialtown has really paid off!

So, Dogman, what's the haps?

Okay, so, firstly, progress on the main game has been slow and steady. A lot of ground has been covered, but I don't feel too comfy showing off the content with placeholder assets still in place. Once some more assets are drawn up to fill in the gaps, we'll be in good hands! I'm excited to show off a lot of what's been done, but... I know we'll be better off if I hold off just a little.

However, I do have some very exciting news. Nathan Hanover, who you may know as the composer for games like The Joy of Creation: Story Mode and Porkchop's Adventure has begun work on Dialtown's original soundtrack!

I'm extremely excited to show you all a minute or so from the two finalized tracks. Enjoy!

That's it for this devlog! Next devlog should have some more exciting news, and will probably arrive in early July. Thanks for reading, and thanks for supporting Dialtown! Laters!

Update 15/5/19

Hey, it's dog!

Firstly, two things. Twostly? Eh.

Okay, so, I'm not gonna write these weekly, because it just occurred to me: while there IS weekly progress that I can report on, it's not always INTERESTING progress, heh heh, or at the very least, not the kinda progress that translates over to devlogs well. Worry not: I'm just letting y'all know not to panic if I go quiet for 2-3 weeks. Just means I'm getting the boring parts out of the way, y'know?

Instead, I'll focus on making more interesting devlogs with at LEAST two images every few weeks, most likely. Or whenever I have shit to show off! Here's a teaser image I forgot to embed last week because I'm still getting used to Steamworks controls, heh-

Secondly, I'm hard at work on... stuff. I have a few drafts written out for the dating plotlines, with many on paper, and a few now on my pc screen! This is actually the last stage before implementation, so hyyyype! Once a scene is written, it's implemented and I'm already implementing scenes as we speak. I'm adding the finishing touches to chapter 1 of Randy's route, and hell, might even finish his entire route this month if I'm lucky! Here's a few of the (obviously censored, you pervert!) dating route drafts, in case you wanna see what they look like.

I've got more detailed notes on paper/in separate documents, but these references are essential, and allow me to track total progress precisely.

Not the MOST exciting devlog, granted, but hell, progress is nice! Last step is adding the finished character images. See, since my protagonists' images are taken from photos of real-live people who've kindly agreed to donate images of their fleshy-phoneless bodies to me, I can dictate certain poses or expressions that I wanna see from the models. This allows for organically produced unique expressions, which stem from me saying "HMMM, I KINDA FEEL LIKE WE COULD USE A NEW EXPRESSION HERE FOR THIS PIECE OF DIALOGUE, BECAUSE IT SURE IS SIGNIFICANT" and the like!

Next devlog mightn't be for a while, but know that I will remain hard at work. When I have stuff to show off, I'll show it off. Ciao!

Update 5/5/19 - "Slow, but steady"

Hey, y'all!

Another week, another update.

Doggo's tellin' ya the haps:

So, lots of interestin' stuff happenin' IRL. I started a new job recently! It's full time, and the people there are super nice. Starts early (7:15am), so as you can imagine, it's a little tiring. But, the money's good, and means I won't have to dip into personal savings to pay the composer working on the OST.

As for the game itself, I'm using evenings and weekends to work on it, and progress has been slow and steady since the last devlog! Finished a new scene for one of the protagonists and I'm ready to get started on his NEXT scene tonight. Exciting.

Also, I'd like to use now to answer some FAQ questions, because a few things might've been left unclear, which is 100% on me:

  • The game has no current release date at the moment. I have a date in my head, but given how things are making bursts of progress, I might actually BEAT the date in my head. I'm absolutely aiming for a 2019 release though.

  • The game, in its current stage of planning, has six main romance routes, and the routes should have an average of three endings each. The sexualities, genders and natures of each relationship differ as route variety is far more interesting. I'm tossing ideas around on the ol' drawing board, so don't be surprised if I add a few shorter joke endings, like I did in the DSaF series, heh heh.

  • So far, the game's slowly shaping up. Assets are being gathered (several IRL pics taken already), models have been chosen, and areas are being fleshed out one by one. I'm excited! Might just end up being a little quirky game that satisfies people!

  • The game doesn't have a confirmed price, but I know it's not gonna be expensive. It won't be less than $5, but also won't be more than $10.

That's it for this devlog. Next devlog'll probably be written up in about a week. Lovin' the early stage hype for the game, and a little later, when music has been composed (possibly next month?), I'll try to get another gameplay trailer out. Ciao!

Update on development as of late!

So, basically, good news.

Game is coming along well! A stock image model and I worked out a financial agreement and thus, he's appearing as a few people in Dialtown, including the one DSaF reference character (hype!) Oh, right. One of the DSaF characters (no, none of the FNaF characters, obviously) makes a cameo! Given the nature of the game... You can likely figure it out ;)

The game is slowly being filled in with content. A few locations are fleshed out. The first 10 or so minutes of Randy's route are finished, and I'm now working on the rest. Progress is good atm!

I'll keep y'all updated and write another one of these a lil' later! Ciao!

Hope y'all are havin' a good egg-day!

Progress is goin' really well so far! Things are still early-ish stages, but the world is slowly becomin' livelier and more packed with life/things to do! First major plotline is now in heavy development.

PS: Enjoy some bonus footage ;)
