Die After Sunset: What's the Story?

What's up peeps!

We have been busy working away on further game improvements to bring out the best of Die After Sunset, but in the meantime we thought it would be cool to share with you a little bit about the story within the game so you can really connect with the characters.

Where it all begins...

An alien race capable of traveling through time known as the Murkors has completely conquered the planet overnight. No one knows how they got here, but everyone feels as if they have always been among us. The Murkors, negatively affected by the light of the Sun, have been able to extinguish it. One last city resists the attacks of the creatures, it is the day of the final battle.

April Blazestrong, a rookie officer, is part of the troops defending the city when she is caught in an explosion and dies in combat. She immediately wakes up in her apartment that same morning, with a difference: In the middle of the apartment is a strange artefact new to April.

A voice coming from it tells her that it comes from the future and she is the only chance to save humanity. She has been locked in a time loop and has two choices: Go out the door and die again in the same battle or help her stop the Murkor invasion.

What happens next...

The voice will guide April through a series of locations through time to stop the invasion, prevent them from shutting down the Sun and save Earth from its terrible fate. In these locations, the Murkors have modified the history of mankind to bring us to the terrible, dark present that our protagonist knows. Stopping the alien leaders who caused these changes is the main objective, but playing with a time loop is dangerous and as you solve missions they will be mixed between eras, leaving the fabric of time in a very delicate state.

The Invaded Timelines

  • High Waikiki Beach, Year 2019
  • Treasure Island, Year 1701
  • Mock Town, Year 1849
  • Yggdrasil, Year 841
  • The End of the World, Year 2120

Luckily you will have all the opportunities you need to achieve your goal: every time you die you return to the apartment and the loop begins again. Each time April manages to get further; the reality through the window from the skyscraper she lives in changes for the better. The only way out will be to reach the end and see the birth of a new day.

Murkor Invasion Log #6: They're Stealing Our Swimwear

Greetings!

We have a rather strange one today folks…April has sent over a mission report for our attention and the Murkors seem to have taken a liking to our swimwear?!

Reporting in with a bizarre mission report today…I came across a group of Murkors stealing swimwear from the beach huts! It seems they were quite taken with the beachwear for some reason, my thoughts are they wanted to use them for some sort of scheme to blend in more on Earth.

Whatever the secret behind this strange ruckus, I had to put a stop to the bikiniclad Murkors before they reached their transport beacons and disappeared with the goods. There were several Murkors trying to protect their thieving friends, but they were not the focus here. If this should happen again then keep directing your attacks on the Murkors stealing the swimwear while dodging the others.

Time is of the essence here so be sure to target the enemies quickly. A good tip that worked for me was to keep an eye on all the huts surrounding you to clock when another speedo wearing Murkor appeared to make a dash for it. Defeat them before they can get anywhere near the transport beams to make your mission easier, otherwise make sure not to lose track of the ones who get through!

As long as you defeat them before they get away then you will still be victorious, this is definitely a mission that requires hawk eyes so be vigilant and stay alert for anything similar happening in the future!

We've made some improvements this week, and are doubling down week on week to address frame rate issues.

There's a few extra bits of feedback that have been pushed slightly out of this week's patch. Adapting the game for wide screens and working on the full screen toggle is still on our list for next week. Stay locked into the steam page next week for even more updates!
