Diplomacy is Not an Option

Development Diary (Part 15)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

We are back with another bit of info about the Rebels’ story arc!

As always, here is a video…

With such helpers there is no need for enemies...

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
You haven’t heard of a mission in the game like this one yet! This time it consists of two parts; in the first part your goal is to destroy a specific building on the map. Of course it won’t be easy, as you have to fight your way through massive defenses.

Destroying the building activates the second part of the mission - an enormous final attack. Fend it off and the victory is yours.

And, as usual for Diplomacy is Not an Option, you don’t get a single peaceful moment. Until you trigger the final attack your castle is assaulted by ever-increasing hordes of enemies. No time to waste yet again!

This is all for today, but more missions and more Dev Diaries are to come!

After the narrow escape from the previous mission, it’s time to attack! Why? Because they attack you! Why? This part of the story you’ll learn while playing the Rebels’ story arc. But there’s a town on the map and it keeps assaulting yours. So your goals are pretty simple: defend, expand, build your army and raze the enemy camp to the ground.

But don’t take too long, or attacks will crush you instead.

That’s it for today’s mission, but the next one is even more special. Keep an eye on the news.

Development Diary (Part 13)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

It’s time to learn more about the third mission of the Rebels’ story arc.

As always, here is a video…

▶️Screwed up again

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
After the sudden change of pace in the previous Diary, we are back to the roots! The King hates your guts (it probably has something to do with the fact you’ve sided with the Rebels) and sends every single soldier at you. So this mission, as usual for Diplomacy is Not an Option, is endless. Attacks get stronger and stronger and will overrun you sooner or later - that is, if you don’t get out of there.

Build ships, gather an army and run for your life. Of course if you can make it in time.

And that’s it for today’s Diary, but there’s more to come! Stay tuned!

Development Diary (Part 12)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

Today we are looking at the second mission of the Rebels’ story arc. As always, here is a video…

▶️Anarchy didn't work

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
Fighting against overwhelming forces of tyranny means that valiant Rebels have to valiantly run away sometimes. Just like in this mission. Yes, you don’t have to build anything, no attacking waves are coming and the goal is straightforward and simple. Get four units from point A to point B without losing any of them. Go straight through enemy camps or evade fights as much as possible, but lead everyone to the destination.

This is the first mission of this type in the game. But not the last one.

That’s it for this Diary, but the Rebels’ story is just at its beginning! See you soon!

Development Diary (Part 11)... and Summer Sale ends soon!

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

There is a week left till the end of the Summer Sale. Don’t miss the chance to get the game with a 40% discount!

Meanwhile, we’re back at the beginning of the campaign. Yet this time we are going to follow the Rebels! As always, here is a video…

▶️Revolution!

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
So, you’ve chosen to aid the Rebels in their glorious fight for freedom. It won’t be easy - a bunch of poor peasants with pitchforks aren’t great warriors. But it’s your duty as a knight to defend the weak. Accordingly, the first mission of the Rebels’ story branch wants you to defend against a certain number of attacking waves. The classics of Diplomacy is Not an Option.

The final attack will be exceptionally massive, but even though the King's army is much stronger than your forces, you definitely have the upper hand. Because the tyrant can never win!

This is it for today. But the Rebels’ storyline has more interesting features we’ll tell you about in this Diaries, so keep an eye on the news!

Small update 0.9.145

Fixed some balance issues and minor errors.

Development Diary (Part 10)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

We are finally at the end of the King’s plot branch! As always, here is a video…

▶️Come on...

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
At last, this is the culmination of your adventure. And to make it special, in this mission we’ve reversed the roles. Now it’s your time to attack, your time to create a horde, your time to crush through walls, raze buildings and plunder!

But since you are an attacking wave now, you need to step up your game. Was one barracks enough? Make it ten! Were a few dozen trebuchets enough? Make it a few hundred! Forget about losses, they are unavoidable. Your primary goal is to destroy.

And of course, the common thing with every siege is that there are people who want to lift it. So send your armies to attack, but keep your defence tight.

And that’s it for the King’s story. In the next Dev Diary we are moving to the Rebels’ one. There are a lot of interesting missions too, so keep an eye on the news!

June Update and Summer Sale

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

Steam Summer Sale has started! During this gamers’ holiday you can get Diplomacy is Not an Option at a 40% discount.

However, we thought this wasn't enough to celebrate the event, so we’ve prepared an update! This time its main focus is Endless Mode. Without further ado, what has been changed?

Two New Endless Mode Layouts

Two new maps have been added to Endless Mode to fill the difficulty gap between Born to Chill and other maps.

Undead Coast, as the name suggests, allows you to fight against the Undead. Here you have a decent chance to survive for a long time. It’s also the biggest map in Endless Mode.

And Labyrinth of Pleasure is an easier version of Labyrinth of Pain.

New Endless Mode Menu

Endless Mode Menu has got a new style and now fits with Sandbox Mode and Challenges Menus. You can filter maps by size, enemy factions or enemy numbers in waves.

Poll Results and the New Enemy

Remember voting for which enemy makes an appearance in the game next? Magister of Necromancy took the first place, and with this update will start appearing in maps featuring the Undead, in particular, on the new Undead Coast map.

Another Map for Sandbox

Under Pressure is coming to Sandbox. Now you can put enemies under pressure!

Additional Improvement to Formation Box

Now you can stretch not only rows of your formation, but the whole formation!

Other Changes

In the Attacking Waves Settings Window it’s now easier to switch between Quick and Advanced Setups. The game doesn’t reset changes you’ve made to attacking waves. Instead switching between Setups converts settings from one Setup to another Setup.

Enemy health doesn’t increase as fast as before with Skilled Survivor on. Now you can survive for longer before enemies become too tough.

In Troublesome Valley some especially dangerous attacking waves became slightly easier than before. Should we rename it to Not-so-Troublesome Valley now?

The full list of changes is, as usual, under the cut.

Development Diary (Part 9)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

A new day, a new Diary! As always, a video…

▶️You’ll die anyway

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
You’ve finally arrived at the shore of the Uncharted Continent and are ready to set sail back home. It’s just you have two small problems…

But what sail? You have no ships. Which means, you need to build them. That’s not too hard, right?

Well, that’s where the second problem appears. You are attacked. By whom? By everybody, of course! Every single faction in the game is mad and furious and wants you dead. Now the ship-building task doesn’t seem that easy, does it? It also gains a sense of urgency, since attacking waves never stop and get stronger and stronger. Use all your skills and balance well between economy, army and the mission goal, because the only way to win is to run away.

It would be unfair if we gave you only trouble, so there’s a safe corner on the map, where no attacking waves pass by. There you can safely build your economy. But even there is a catch - the reason why enemies avoid that region is huge water beasts. You’ll have to dispatch those if you want to get that rich portion of land.

That’s all for today’s Diary, but there’s many more missions to cover!

Development Diary (Part 8)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

And another Diary is here!

As always, a video…

▶️Deadly Consequences

…and details.

BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD
[expand type=details]
This is the second mission out of the two alternative ones. Good news: you won’t encounter any bugs here. Bad news: there is another specimen of the local fauna to block your way.

Heffalumps. Huge, massive creatures that tower over your castle. And yes, they are considered mini-bosses. Those giants stroll across the map, posing a huge threat to your well-being. Defend your castle and prepare for the sole wave of the mission, consisting only of Heffalumps. As usual, all the enemies on the map take part in the final wave, so hunting down every single one of them may come essential for your survival…

But should you even fight this time? What if there’s a way to resolve the conflict with nature peacefully? That’s for you to find out.

This is it for this Dev Diary! In the next one you’ll learn what is to happen on the shore, so keep an eye on our news!
