Diplomacy is Not an Option

Weather news

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

The Weathermen are contradictory in their forecasts today. Some say that winter will return to the Mysterious Continent and temperatures will drop to record lows. If so, it's going to look something like this:

The Samreignian Hydrometeorological Center recommends citizens not to leave their homes because of the risk of hypothermia.

However, another part of weather forecasters completely disagrees with the former conclusions and believes that temperatures, on the contrary, will rise. Meteorologists from Niniende insist: it will be hot for a long time. The good news is it'll be sunny, with no precipitation. In that case, the picture will change as follows:

We, the developers, believe it's better to leave forecasters to their discussion. In the meantime, we'll think about how the temperature anomalies may affect the gameplay of Diplomacy is Not an Option.

We'd love to see your thoughts on that topic as well. Feel free to share ideas in the comment section!

New Surroundings

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

As you may have figured out by taking a glance at the story campaign map, the geography of the main character's journey - Milord - is quite wide. Accordingly, you will have to fight and survive in different terrains. So far, there are only three in the game: the Meadows of Lizway, the Forests of Penderain, and the Rusty Wastelands. (The easiest way to see them is to play Sandbox mode since there you can choose the surroundings). Today we want to show you another five.
Welcome to the Diplomacy is Not an Option's geographical society!

Rothglen Hills

Here, in the east of Samreignia, you can see the pine trees on the seashore. It is from here Milord will set out on his Odyssey. (Not least due to the famous unfriendliness of Rothglenians).

Mystic Shores

Milord has a pretty good chance of seeing this subtropical idyll. Well, not quite idyll, because there'll be plenty of those who want to kill him.

Sacred forest

A true wonder of nature - forests, as if frozen in the eternal and beautiful ochre autumn. But even here, there are definitely some who would challenge Milord.

Niniende Highlands

Snow-covered grass, clean air, and the pleasant freshness of the approaching cold. However, it is hardly possible to relax, enjoying the spectacular views, because the mountains conceal a lot of dangers...

Gloomy dungeons

What are they? Caves? Casemates? Dungeons? You will find out when you pass the Diplomacy is Not an Option's story campaign.

In conclusion, we'd like to say that all of the above will appear sooner or later in the Challenge Mode, the Endless Mode, and the Sandbox Mode. Stay tuned for further updates!

The main characters from the story campaign

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

Diplomacy is Not an Option's story campaign is not intended to be a serious and deep narrative. We believe our game to be a kind of pamphlet or even a travesty. However, even in a small comedy the actors play an important role. In this article, we will list all the key characters that the protagonist meets during his journey. Some of them you know, and some of them you are going to meet for the first time. Depending on the choices you make, one of them (and maybe more than one) may become your ally and even appear on the battlefield.

CAUTION: minor spoilers ahead!

To begin with, the main characters belong to different in-game factions. In the Singleplayer Campaign preview, you meet the leader of the Resistance, the true King of Samreignia, Scott the Bloody.

It is well-known that he is the bastard of the protagonist's uncle, but for what reason Scott considers himself eligible to claim the throne remains a mystery. Most likely, it's a matter of opportunism. When a peasant uprising broke out over tax increases in Samreignia, Scott thought he had an opportunity to take over the country.

He's a narcissist with a gift for eloquence, and he's also often found to tend toward violence. Some modern psychologists might even consider him a psychopath or a maniac. But since Samreignia is in the Middle Ages, there's no one to provide a diagnosis. If you ever picked the Rebel side in the campaign preview, you know that Scott the Bloody is joining your army. If you continue playing for the peasants' faction, rest assured that Scott the Bloody will appear more than once on the battlefield, in the in-game videos. In general, he has a very significant impact on the plot.

If you remain loyal to your king, Scott heroically dies on the battlefield. But, in the next mission (which is not included in the preview), you get a rare opportunity to meet the Keeper of Eternal Peace, the Bastion of Goodness, the Guarantor of Justice, His Majesty King Ferdinand II of Samreignia (nicknamed the Thick by his people).

Ferdinand, as a king is expected to be, is always right. He's also a hedonist, loving life in all its forms. It was this love of life, coupled with Ferdinand's unwillingness to limit himself, that drove Samreignia into a crisis. Which led to the decree of a tax increase. In the story campaign branch "For the King!" the protagonist will have to try to fill the royal treasury with gold and jewelry, which he will try to find on the Uncharted Continent.

In one of the previous posts, we introduced you to the Sarranga tribe living on the Uncharted Continent (the one marked Terra Tenebrosa on the map). We also showed you Princess Shankhar. Just in case you missed it, here she is:

Brave, a little rough, and very determined, Shankhar is one of the three rulers of the Sarranga Tribal Union. Here are the other two chiefs:

Each one of this trio is the chief of his tribe, in charge of his people. And together, they decide the most important matters concerning the governance of the entire Sarranga Union.

The Sarranga are not the only civilization on the Uncharted Continent. As you may have noticed, there are Undead in our game. And they too have their own... undead leaders, who occupy an important place in their odd hierarchy. Meet the Ninth Twilight Overlord.

He is exceptionally intelligent. Like all the Undead, he realizes that he is a part of the game. Overlord even knows some things about how the game works. He is charismatic and polite but can be a bit hot-headed when he's upset. On the whole, he's the nicest person to talk to.

We could tell you some more details about the biography of the main character, "My Lord", and his loyal servant Snoot, who you can see in most dialog boxes in different Diplomacy is Not an Option game mods... Instead, we'll just leave one picture here, an in-game screenshot, to be precise....

Thank you for your time. See you soon!

Endless Mode feedback

Good Lords! Fair Ladies!
As you may have noticed, in a few previous updates we made some changes to the in-game economy. Meanwhile, the balance of the Endless Mode map layouts remains untouched.
So we have been contemplating - what is the best way to find the needed changes? What would make the challenge fair and tough at the same time?
The answer is obvious! We need to see how our fans play those maps!
Thus, once again, we ask for your help. We need your videos! When you happen to play Endless Mode (except for the latest - "Under Pressure"), please do, make a Youtube video, and share the link with us! It doesn't matter whether you survive a few days or a hundred! If it’s not difficult for you, it would also be great to make a note about your level so that we can roughly understand who is playing in the video .
Your videos can help us make the Endless Mode better!
You can send your links to the video both in the comments and via these contacts (whichever is more convenient for you):

Endemics of the uncharted continent (Part 2)

Good Lords, Fair Ladies!

We continue our story about the wildlife of the Uncharted Continent. Last time you met giant bugs. And today we'll be talking about more advanced forms of life.

!Caution, minor spoilers ahead!

Let's start with crustaceans. Like the local insects, they're a bit bigger than we're normally used to imagining similar species. Still, rather cute creatures, don't you think? Colonies of these clever, swarming animals stretch all along the coast of the mysterious continent along the Halimatyan Sea.

Giant crabs are fairly peaceful until someone trespasses on the Crab's abode, the place where they lay their eggs. Both the Sarranga and the Undead consider crab eggs a delicacy, so they try to pillage Crab's abodes remarkably often...

Sooner or later, the protagonist of Diplomacy is Not an Option will reach the shore of the Halimatyan Sea. When that happens, he will face a choice: get rid of his dangerous crustacean neighbors or leave them be. The crabs won't stand in his way, at least they certainly won't join any attacking wave. At the same time, to be cut off from the seashore when you need to get there badly, with only pathetic overgrown shrimps standing in your way... Well, the choice is yours.

Let's move on to the more exciting wildlife.

Many of Alexander Milne's readers probably wonder from time to time what a Heffalump looks like. By a strange coincidence, the Sarranga tribe uses the same word to name a very specific mammal. So to say, we have an answer for Milne's readers.

What do we know about these majestic giants? The only more or less credible information can be found in the writings of Master Physalis, a citizen of Samreignia who was the first to cross the Halimatyan Sea, and who generally has been everywhere across the world.
According to his journals, Heffalumps can only be seen on the Uncharted Continent. Their area of habitat is very limited. Apparently, it has been reduced as a result of the expansion of the Undead's zone of influence and the expansion of the Sarranga civilization as well. To put it simply, for intelligent beings, Heffalumps were a source of bones and flesh for dark magic or a valuable hunting trophy. Which dwindled the mammal's population and eventually led to them inhabiting a tiny piece of land that neither the Undead nor the Sarranga have reached yet.

It is difficult to say how long a Heffalump lives. However, at a certain age, they grow to a truly impressive size and maturity. Sarranga call them "Ancient Heffalumps".

Heffalumps are herd animals. They have families and they keep very close to each other. They have a well-developed intellect and a high degree of empathy towards their kin. Master Physalis described in great detail how the herd takes care of the elderly. Younger individuals bring them food, help them get up on their feet after sleeping, and accompany them to the watering hole. Physalis was touched by a scene he witnessed: Heffalumps surrounded the body of a relative who had died of old age and mourned for an hour. These creatures have an incredible memory: they remember everyone who has ever shown aggression towards the herd. Normally peaceful, majestic, and slow, Heffalumps are completely transformed when someone attempts to take the life of a kin. Their eyes become bloodshot and the whole herd pounces on the enemy, and none of them will rest until the enemy is trampled to death. This information will likely be useful to you if the game's protagonist finds himself in a place where Heffalump are during your campaign walkthrough.

This concludes the story about the most colorful representatives of the fauna of the Uncharted Continent. Thank you for your time, see you soon!
