As you may remember, a couple of weeks ago we found a mysterious scroll. That time a lot of you solved the riddle, but now we’ve got a new one. A strange old man visited and told us this prophecy:
Hark, seeker of riddles, a challenge awaits! A cryptic clue, a puzzle of fate. With coordinates given, a compass to guide, To a battle of ages, where heroes did stride.
At 38°47′45″N, 22°32′13″E a place defined, A field of echoes, where history’s entined. In this location warriors did boast, Their courage and might esteemed the most.
The battle fought here inspired a game, A key mechanic, each player to tame. Recall the year, a memory bright, When history’s drama took its flight.
So search through history's dusty tome, And find the year when swords did roam. With this password you shall prevail, And unlock the secrets this riddle entails.
it’s as if someone tries to convey something… What can it possibly mean?
Please, help us decipher this. We, on our part, will also search for more clues and will be back as soon as we find something!

Sandbox 2.0
Good Lords, Fair Ladies!
Today is May, 19th and, as promised, an update has arrived. This time its primary focus is the new Sandbox mode with Attacking Wave Setup tool and other improvements. As usual, we have prepared a video… …and a description. So, what exactly has been changed?
Attacking Wave Setup window
The old window has got a completely new, shiny look. Now you can set as many attacking waves and needed time for them to come.
Wave Presets
You’ve been asking us to add this to borrow this from Endless mode and add it to the Sandbox. And we did it: now you can select a challenge of any difficulty from the list of 14 presets!
Quick and Advanced Setups
We’ve added a casual tool: Quick Setup. Just move a couple of sliders, and you get yourself a nice (or probably not so nice) old wave! The old way of managing attacking wave is still there. It’s just called Advanced Setup now.
Unleash the Next Attacking Wave Button
Feeling ready to face the next attack, but it’s still a long time till it strikes? Just push the button and jump into fight!
Other additions to the Sandbox Mode
You can play in a new environment – Mystic Shores. There (well, anywhere you fight the King’s army) you’ll meet two new enemies: Royal Archer and Royal Crossbowman! From now on your army isn’t the only one to shoot bolts and arrows.
New Controls Layout for Pros
We’ve added a new layout for especially hardcore players. You can change it in Options – Controls.
More information about the Update is, traditionally, under the cut. [expand type=details] Update 0.9.131
Features
Reworked “Attacking Waves Setup” window in Sandbox Mode:
Now you can set multiple attacking waves at once;
You can choose pre-made attacking waves presets taken from Endless and Challenge Modes;
A new way to configure attacking waves - Quick Setup - has been added in addition to the old way of managing attacking waves (which is now called Advanced Setup);
The next attacking wave can be summoned instantly using a new button near the mini-map.
Added a new input layout for pro-players (can be changed in Options - Controls).
General
Added new environment for Sandbox Mode: “Mystic Shores”;
Added new enemies (for Sandbox Mode only): Royal Archer and Royal Crossbowman;
2 maps from Challenge Mode are added to Sandbox Mode: Ideological Standoff and Cultural Divide;
Zombies (Walking Corpses, Undead Hulks and Undead Horsies) are no longer counted as Undead and moved to Other Units faction.
Improvements
Now you can see the area of attack of units that received “Attack Point” order by clicking on them;
Now you can deselect part of your selected units by holding [Ctrl]+[Shift] and dragging your mouse across them. Non-selected units caught by the deselection box stay non-selected;
The selection box works better on different camera zooms;
Multiple UI and UX improvements.
Bug Fixes
Fields’ color of Farm I was accidentally changed in the previous update and now reverted to the correct one;
Enemy range units now have Accuracy stat in description;
Fixed a rare bug with siege machines shooting farther than they are supposed to (when received Attack Point order);
Fixed a rare bug when buildings with multiple buffs lose all the buffs instead of one;
Fixed a very rare bug with some enemies freeze after they were thrown into air;
Multiple localization fixes.

Sounds of Music
Good Lords, Fair Ladies!
We are back with a small announcement!
As you might have noticed, we’ve been working on the campaign for a long time (partially because the scale of the campaign has greatly increased). And we don’t just add more content, but also work on the existing one, such as in-game music. The whole soundtrack has been re-recorded with live instruments. It consists of 16 tracks that mark important events of your future journey across Samreignia and the Uncharted Continent. You can find the complete soundtrack here:
We are back with some news – this time it is about the start of Development Diaries.
With the release coming closer and closer, we’ve decided to share more information about the campaign. But how to do that with few spoilers? And then we came up with an idea: “How about doing it in a form of short videos?” So, starting from today, you will see actual maps and important elements of different campaign missions.
BE CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD [expand type=details] As you all remember, currently the campaign diverges into two routes. Taking the King’s route leads you to the first new mission, different from the usual “defeat x waves” type. Your main objective here is to finish special buildings: ships. And ships aren’t cheap. You’ll have to ensure you produce enough resources to complete the objective.
That, however, doesn’t mean you are going to have peaceful time. There is always something to threaten your survival. The place is inhabited by quite hot-tempered people, and visitors of a beer fest nearby aren’t going to help. In any case, setting sail isn’t going to be smooth.
Stay tuned, we have more things coming today!

Endless Replayability Fest
Good Lords, Fair Ladies!
This week Steam hosts Endless Replayability Fest. Diplomacy is Not an Option obviously can’t miss it, since so many players have spent over a hundred hours in the game. (Some players' in-game hours count in thousands!) But what exactly gives our game such replayability?
First, it’s procedural generation. Every time you start a new game, a new map is randomly generated. Its settings determine if it’s fighting for every square of land that awaits you, or (somewhat) peaceful expansion, if your storages are filled with wood or stone, if mountains defend your Townhall from waves of enemies. Every playthrough is different and requires a unique approach.
But is it enough for endless replayability? Our answer is ‘No’. This is how the Sandbox Mode appeared in the game. Of course, it was initially supposed to be a creative mode for experimentation, where players can build ideal cities and watch massive hordes crush against their walls. But your feedback gave us ideas on how to make it better. Thus we added cheats and a tool to spawn enemies out of thin air!
Now we go even further. On May, 18th the Sandbox Mode will be updated once again. It will receive a function to plan multiple waves beforehand! Do you wish for weaker waves? Here you go! Do you wish to test your skills? Just move a couple of sliders! Or maybe you want to know how long you can survive against impossible waves? In any case, the possibilities are endless. The choice is yours. And we will return soon with more news!

Riddle me this (1/3)... and a weeklong deal
Hello, people! A new week has begun, and once again you can get our game with a discount. The weeklong deal will last from April 29th to May 6th.
But it’s not all we want to share today. After another King’s drinking spree, one of the darker treasury corners was freed of gold. On the floor where a huge pile of coins once was, we've found an ancient scroll (we analyzed it - it’s approximately 2 years old). Inside there was a strange poem. Here it is:
In verse and rhyme a riddle weaves its tale, Some numbers hidden, secrets to unveil. On stage of life, where whispers softly glide, In realm of Instagram two silent digits hide.
And in the realm where birds no longer tweet, You'll find another clue to test your wit. The land uncharted waits for coming guests, Reward for loyalty, of patience noble crest.
And as the riddle deepens, do not rest, The final part is hidden in the text Of video. It shows unfolding battle. But be attentive, as the clue is very subtle.
So search with care, the clues are all around, The riddle waits for you to come unbound.
What can this possibly be about? Hope you can tell us.
See you soon!

Of April Update
Introduction
Good Lords, Fair Ladies!
As we have promised, this April, and to be precise, on the 13th, the Diplomacy is Not an Option is getting an Update. The main thing about it is the long-awaited, improved Formation Management System. For those who prefer to watch videos rather than deal with long reads, here's a link to quite an illustrative video: For the rest of you, we continue the story in the classic format. From now on, the battle formations in Diplomacy is Not an Option will have greater variety. Of course, the expansion of functionality leads to the interface improvement. So let's start with that.
Updated menu
Your warriors don't seem to hold their lines in the right way? Welcome to the new menu! Here you will be able to fully unleash your tactical potential.
Formations Box
When you first open the Formations Box, it will become clear how your warriors are lined up by default. As you can see, a formation in the game can have up to 9 rows. Each troop type is represented by its icon. In the upper row, you can find the troop types that are closer to the front line, and in the lower row, you can see the ones that will be kept in the rear. By default, when in the same group, Archers will always take a position behind Hammerguys, Crossbowmen will be in front of Healers, and so on. Yet starting from today it's up to you to decide who should cover who, and in what order.
Rows
Originally, the icons of troop types occupy the rows in the order we thought was most logical. Cavalry comes first, then heavy infantry, followed by light infantry and ranged units, with War Machines rounding out the build-up. However, players often have a strong preference for certain troop classes. And it happens that in the same Group with troops of these classes may wind up someone else. Before April's Update such a case could break the formation you were willing to hold. You can avoid this situation by swapping rows. For example, by placing a class that is redundant for your tactics to the rear.
Fine Tuning
For more advanced tweaking, drag and drop icons with troop types from row to row. Swap them around or move them to a free cell in any row of the Formations Window.
Additional features
There are actually more than seven cells in each row. If you want to set equal positioning priority in relation to the front line for, say, nine or ten troop types, just go for it!
Providing cover
In the same row in the Formation Window, you may have troop types with different line widths. For example, six Trebuchets take up more space than six Hammerguys. If you feel like enemies may outflank, use the "stretched line" feature.
Presets
Not only can you experiment with the battle formation, but also save the results to any of the four presets. This comes in handy if you want to improve a particular formation, or if at some point to start playing with other types of troops.
In conclusion
Formation settings can always be reset back to default. Simply use the "reset" button to do so.
A pleasant surprise for patient readers
In addition to the announced formation improvements, the April Update includes new music. Firstly, the whole soundtrack has been re-recorded with live instruments. Secondly, we've added the background track for the Rusted Wastelands surroundings. And for dessert - we've improved the voicing of Royal Army soldiers.
Thank you, and see you soon!

Announcing the new Formation management system
Good Lords, Fair Ladies!
Remember us mentioning that the Formation Management toolset is getting an upgrade? Well, today we are ready to tell and even to show you exactly what it is all about.
To begin with, a separate tab will appear in the UI for managing Formations. It gives access to the sort of editor, that allows you to turn your combat tactics literally upside down.
The formation has 9 lines. In the first line, there are icons of troop types from the vanguard, in the ninth - from the rearguard. Basically, the line number determines the positioning priority of your troops within the same formation. By default, Healers from the sixth line will take their place in front of Catapults from the seventh line, but behind Hammerguys from the third. Yet we want the formation management to become another space for experimentation.
The easiest thing you can do is to change the order of the lines. Want your Catapults on the frontline? Pull the slider on the right and drag the line with the Catapults icon to the top of the list. Apart from dragging lines, you'll also get an opportunity to swap lines with each other.
You'll be able to perform similar operations with each troop type separately: swap them with each other or move them to other lines that don't have any limit to the number of troops in them, by the way. So, feel free to mix your troops and lines. But what's the point in changing the place of troop type in the same line, you might ask. Here is an illustrative answer. Let's say you have a squad of Spearmen and Swordsmen.
When several troops are placed in the same row, you may want to use the button that changes the line width.
There are two types of lines: normal and stretched. The stretched one is needed to expand the width of a line of troop types from one row to the maximum value represented in that row. We think this is an extremely useful feature, allowing you to cover war machines with infantry, whose formation is usually narrower due to the smaller size of troops.
We understand that you may need to quickly change the formation settings. There are four presets in the box for this purpose. Not only you can customize each of them individually, but also duplicate the settings of the current formation into another preset for further editing. All edits made to the formation are saved automatically, and your squads will change their combat setup according to the new settings once they receive the next order.
If at some point you get confused with presets, lines, and icons of troop types - don't worry, you can always return the formation to the default settings by pressing the "reset" button.
We really hope that the upcoming improvements, together with the already-known tool for adjusting Formation density and width, will bring the army management to the next level.
Thank you for being with us!
