It is party time! Come to meet our last member of the gang, Faithful Devil, and his 5 fairies!

Faithful Devil was originally a nameless devil born in the Quick Sands River. Through fortunate coincidences, he consumed the nine reincarnations of the Buddha of Life, which granted him power. Later, he made a bet with the Holy Monk and went westward, gradually growing into a prominent figure whose fate was closely intertwined with Holy Monk, Swine King, and Wukong.

Faithful Devil can absorb the elements into his Skeleton Rosaart and can summon five (female) fairies of gold, wood, water, fire, and earth from these absorbed elements. In addition, he is skilled at exhausting cards to control the flow of his deck, using his Soul Eater to manipulate the positioning of his enemies, and leveraging his unique "Overload" status to unleash explosive power.

In addition to releasing Faithful Devil, we have also conducted a lot of optimization work, mainly on art and UI. We have adjusted and optimized all the cards for Wukong, Holy Monk, and White Dragon, aiming to increase the differentiation between cards and better experience during combat.





Furthermore, we have also adjusted the layout of the battle scenes, added background blur, and made the battlefield layout more reasonable so that players can distinguish actions and intentions more clearly.



Lastly, did anyone get it right in last week's guessing game? The hand gesture of the Fire Fairy is a tribute to Makima from Chainsaw Man!



Other Optimizations and Adjustments



  • Reduce the strength increase requirement of little monkey to 3 for Wukong. And each time the strength increases, the requirement further reduces by 1.
  • Add an option to allow Swine King to gain a command card in the camp of chapter 4.
  • Increase the chance of getting a correct element in the Omen fight.
  • Enhanced Singing Sword as it will increase the damage exponentially.


Bug fixes



  • Fix a rare case where Worm Larva does not trigger.
  • Fix a text bug in the Abortion Spring event.
  • Fix the issue that spirit shifting copying ice dragon card will start an exception.
  • Fix the issue that Event UI cannot be hidden in Endless mode.

Dev Log #057: 2023-04-21

We are thrilled to announce that after four months of development and testing, we will officially be introducing Faithful Devil on May 1st! Alongside this, in early May we are also aiming to launch an iOS version and a Kickstarter campaign to support the continuous development of future DLCs.

This week, we continued to put the finishing touches on Faithful Devil and made significant UI optimizations and adjustments to enhance the user experience. Furthermore, we have implemented enhancements to Wukong, further improving the user experience:

  • Polished and enhanced the card assets for all Wukong cards
  • Change one of Wukong's starting cards to Shape Shifting.
  • Uproar in Heaven can now deal damage as the scaling of the target’s Max HP, making it much stronger in a later stage.
  • Increase the base count of Longer and Heavier Monkey King Bar cards to 3
  • Reduce the Energy Cost of Chaotic Power to 2
  • Monkey King's Roar and Break the Soul can recognize unremovable poison correctly
  • Simplify the requirements for Wukong to enter the final chapter, the Soul Mountain storyline.



Taking into account the feedback and suggestions from our community, we have added a hint screen that explains how to attain the "good" and "evil" points and meet the requirements to enter the final chapter. The hint will appears after the initial event, with an option to hide it in the future . We believe that this additional information will assist players in navigating the choices and storylines more easily.

Optimization and Adjustments



  • Buddha of Light's confusion is single target.
  • New highlight target effect.
  • Optimize card cancel during target change when playing more than 1 card at a time.
  • Voodoo Elder's Catalyst is not capped anymore.
  • Green Snake Scale gives Block each turn.
  • Clean up and optimized multiple UI, including event, compendium, statistics, etc.


Bug fixes



  • Fix a few skill location issue in compendium.
  • Fix a bug that replacement of companion will cause Evil Barrier to fail its update.

This week, we made significant strides in the development of Faithful Devil. We updated some draft card assets for testing purposes and incorporated Achievements and English localization to enhance the user experience. We plan to release 2 Faithful Devil companions next week. Additionally, we continued to refine the Faithful Devil's cards and mechanics, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal gameplay. Overall, we are excited about the progress we have made and look forward to sharing our continued success with our dedicated community.

Dev Log #053: 2023-03-24

Thank you all for your support for the past year! This week, we made significant progress on the development of Faithful Devil, completed all animations, and added several new story endings. Additionally, we have been hard at work creating new art assets for the game, which will improve the game's overall visual appeal.

During our development process, we also encountered a few bugs, but we were able to fix them quickly, ensuring a smoother gaming experience for players. Overall, we are pleased with the progress we have made this week and feel that we are on track to deliver the new character as planned.

  • Divine Light Bomb can now clear all blocks and evil barrier from the target before dealing 50 damage to all enemies.



  • Life Stealer can now convert the excessive HP absorbed into Evil Barrier.

A Letter for 1st Anniversary! and Dev Log #052: 2023-03-17

Hello everyone!

I'm Dr. Z. It has been a year since the launch of Journey to the West EA. Thank you all for your continuous support, encouragement, and urging. On this special day, I want to chat with you all about the status of the project and studio, and our plans for 2023.

Journey to the West is our first commercial product at Z Studio, which consists of only 2 people. For nearly 3.5 years now, we have been pouring our hearts and souls into this game, self-funding every step of the way. We haven't taken a salary, and have even had to spend nearly RMB 2 million on outsourcing expenses. We made plenty of mistakes along the way, especially with our lack of experience in gameplay and art, which unfortunately resulted in sales not being proportionate to our effort.

But despite all of this, we've never given up. I personally have been working 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, trying to make this game the best it can be. The journey has been tough, but there's nothing more enjoyable or fulfilling to us than developing games. And even though sales have been poor, we're not going to let that discourage us. We're determined to keep improving the game so that we can bring everyone out there a high-quality, enjoyable experience.


We plan to release the official version in May. The last character, Faithful Devil, is now available for closed beta testing, while there are still balance, bug, and art improvements needed. After that, we hope to develop three or more DLCs and adjust the development period based on funding.

Developing DLCs still requires a lot of outsourcing for art, so we plan to launch crowdfunding campaigns on both Momo and Kickstarter in May 1st, the same day the official version launches. We hope that players who are capable and enjoy the game can provide more support.

During the beta testing period, we will constantly optimize the card logic, adjust values, and fix bugs. Please provide us with your feedback and opinions!



We have also made many art optimizations:

  1. we have replaced the card frames of Wukong, White Dragon, and Holy Monk with more exquisite new ones



  2. optimized the card art of Wukong's Shapeshifting



  3. updated the battle background of the combat with Hell Emperor.



  4. added special effects to the game-over screen




Thanks for everyone's feedback, we have done a round of concentrated strengthening of Goku's attack power:

  1. Monkey King’s bar: The original attack bonus of 50% under the heavy status is changed to an additional 100% damage.


  2. Talent: The "Advance Fighting Method Vol. I" now adds extra defense.


  3. Talent: The "Advance Fighting Method Vol. II" now adds an additional 100% attack power.


  4. Purple Gold Crown: An additional 100% damage, up to a maximum of 400% damage.




Other Optimizations



  1. Star Dart applies 3 Vulnerable at start of combat.
  2. Lowered the requirement of experience points needed for redeem a trial level.


Bug fixes



  1. Fix a bug where Omen will summon player killed companion.
  2. A lot of Faithful Devil related bug fixes.

Dev Log #051: 2023-03-10

This week, we completed the implementation of all the card logic, effects, audio, and plot for the Faithful Devil, and are now gearing up to commence beta testing next week. Additionally, we made some adjustments to certain relics and introduced a new feature that allows players to trade their experience points for trial levels.

At the character selection page, players now have the option to redeem their earned scores (experience points obtained after each play) for trial levels by simply clicking on the Trial Furnace. The higher level, the more score needed.
