HAPPY NEW YEAR!



The mashed potatoes has cooled down, the meat has been eaten, the glasses are empty, that man on the TV has already finished his speech, and the people are once again measuring whose firework is louder in the night sky. That means the year 2019 is on the streets! Congratulations!

We have good news and bad news for you guys.



Let us begin with some good news. Not so long ago I wrote about going abroad and putting the work on D'LIRIUM and The Golden Rogue on hold for the duration of 3 months. Well, turns out I've managed to get myself a new computer here, on which I can continue the work. I've assembled it from some available stuff here that I had found in my father-in-law's workshop, and some stuff I've bought in the shop of computer spares. Anyways, what it means is that the work on The Golden Rogue is about to continue! The configuration of my new PC will be in the end of this post, I'll be looking forward for to your opinions on it.

The bad news is that there will be no New Year update for the original D'LIRIUM. Sorry, guys. At the moment, the work on D'LIRIUM is on hiatus, so we could manage to release The Golden Rogue in time for Easter or at least as close to it as possible.

All in all, the progress is rather nice. We sincerely hope to finish The Golden Rogue as soon as possible and to make it really interesting and impressive. We're afraid of it turning out to be a failure, but we still are moving forward to our goal.

Today's announcement is going to be more of a tutorial than an announcement. Due to my departure, the development of D'LIRIUM and The Golden Rogue is getting put on hold for the duration of three months. Moreover, our team is not doing so good and we defenitely could use a helping hand. In order to keep the project moving forward, we have decided to ask our community if they'd like to help. Now, anyone can participate!

As you can see, this isn't as much of an announcement as it is a tutorial on how to create levels and characters. No, nobody is going to have to programm, those who'd like to participate need to stick to draing the textures. And that's what we're going to address below.

The creation of tiles.



The tiles need to match the grid of 32x32 cell size (player's size) and 16x16 (for the smaller things), the first cell should be empty, the others are to be used for the level creation.



The creation of levels.



Nothing too difficult: the main thing is to stick to the grid of 32x32 cell size (player's size). The levels can be anything from hellish to urban. I'll be chosing which ones will end up in Rogue or in the original game. The hellish levels are especially needed.



The creation of a monster or a regular enemy.



The size is still 32x32. The animations required are: the walking animation (4 frames for each of 4 directions), the attack for 2 directions (8 frames), there may be several attacks, a regular and violent death animation, when the character gets torn apart (8 frames each)

The creation of NPC.



You may add your OC in the game. The drawing should stick to the requirements of enemies, but the walking animation alone should be enough. But if you desire for your NPC to be killable...

So, that's how it is. We'll import the chosen levels and NPC ourselves, using your sprites and tiles. I hope it'll be an interesting experience for both you and ourselves! Any participant, whose work will be chosen for the game, will get the beta-test key and a well-deserved place in the credits.

The development is on hold again.



It's been a while since the last update on Beta-1 or The Golden Rogue, our Patreon is dead and so is the activity on our Steam page. And the reason behind that is the development of the D'LIRIUM's new update being put on hold, as we told you before, due to the development of The Golden Rogue, which is being developed while surrounded in secrecy. And during the latest week we've made more progress than during the latest month!

Currently, The Golden Rogue is already looking like an almost finished product. The levels are all done and even though they are without a plot yet, they're fully passable. The most of the mechanics have been debugged and are ready. The levels are big and open. The game takes quite some time to pass, especially compared to the original D'LIRIUM. And that's where we've stummbled upon a big, or maybe even fatal problem. Even though the locations are so much better designed and drawn than in the original game, running through them and fighting the same enemies over and over is boring! We're absolutely sure that not adding a deversity of new enemies would make the game fail. That's why we offer our community to try and take a part in the game's development. The details will be in an announcement tomorrow.

Now, let's talk a bit about the reason we're posting this for. The development of The Golden Rogue will be put on hold for the period of three months due to me going abroad for the whole Winter. For the same reason, the original D'LIRIUM will not contain any Christmas or New Year updates. That doesn't mean I won't be working on the game at all, but any significant progress is not to be expected until the end of Winter. We'll try and release the game before Easter. But you'll have to be patient.

So, such is our uncertain piece of news for today. Don't beat us up, please. Everything will be back to normal when I return. Finishing The Golden Rogue in time will be my main priority.

Why has there been no Halloween update?



For the last few days I've been asked by the people who keep a close eye on the game development: why has there been no special update for Halloween? I'll try to give you a short and simple answer, so noone is left wondering.

Originally, there's been a plan to release a small update that would change the main menu screen and add a Halloween-themed level. But I simply haven't had enough time for making that small idea come to life. That's because our resources are focused on the development of the Golden Rogue in order to be able to release it before the year ends. Moreover, in the new version of D' there are a few features from Beta-1 that is just not ready to be released yet.

So, my friends, you have to be patient. Quite soon the things will get really cool. And it doesn't matter that there's no Halloween event - there will be plenty eventually!

It's barely been a day since the previous news, yet the page of The Golden Rogue is already on Steam! The game itself isn't ready yet, and we still can't name the exact release date. But we assure you that the development is taking the big steps and if everything goes according to plan, then it'll be finished really soon!

One year on Steam!



Today is a special day for D'LIRIUM! This is the day when D'LIRIUM has been released in the Steam Early Access.



We've met a lot of people since then. Some of them have fallen in love with our game, some just played and forgot about it, and some have become the true fans!

During the year of being in Steam, the game has changed quite a bit and keeps changing. Once a primitive 2D-shooter, it has gained the new ideas, new features and a whole community! To honour this day, we have compiled and uploaded all of the most important builds that will allow you to see how the game has been changing from the very first build of 2012 to alpha-12, after while D'LIRIUM had been finally moved to Game Maker Studio 2 engine, on which it keeps running to this day!

You can now enter the game's properties on Steam and choose to play any builds in the "Beta-version" section, to compare and check out each of them. We'll be waiting for your comments! D'LIRIUM keeps getting better only thanks to you guys! Thanks you so much!

The development of Beta-1 is on hold again. Why?



We'd like to mention that it's not bad news. There's no need to panic that the project is going through some troubles.

The thing is, we have decided to focus on the expansion we mentioned earlier in our previous posts. That project has intrigued us quite a bit and, in our opinion, it might end up becoming far more diverse and interesting than the original game. After it's release we will return to the development of the game while you are going to be busy diving into the new adventure.

Now that we have explained why we had put our work on hold for now, we're going to tell you what's to be expected from that expansion. It will be called "The Golder Rogue" and it's going to surprise you. The story of the expansion will unfold some time before the events of the D’LIRIUM, and the main characters will be Dismas and Gestas, known by the original game. The expansion will include a lot of new features, but will also become more resource-hungry due to the large levels and some new mechanics. The levels will be really big this time, with a lot of interactive items. Some of them could be just browsed, the others could be used. The game will have the new enemies and weapons, but also a companion. It's worth mentioning that there will be no annoying need to protect him, the game will allow to even leave him at the beginning of the level. The companion will be needed only to advance the story. But in order to avoid him being useless, we have given him a few features that will be helpful, if you figure out how to use them best.

Now, let's have a little heart-to-heart. What is that expansion for? There are people who criticized us about starting the development of a new game while not finishing the previous one. And we want to say it genuinely, yes, people love to call such projects "money milkers" and that is true - we won't hide that we're doing that game to raise some money. The sells of the original D'LIRIUM are currently down and we can no longer make enough for living and the further development. And we haven't even finished it yet! Our salvation lies in people who support us on Patreon, it's thanks to them that we can actually afford this new project and we're truly thankful to them!

However, we don't want to disappoint the players or to go against our own principles. That's why we're going to take the development of "The Golden Rogue" really seriously.

We're back to experimenting, taking risks for the sake of creativity. We're making a point of unfolding the story of the characters that players did not really sympathize in the original game, to show you all a new interesting story, even if it will be more linear than the one in the original game. Moreover, the story of the Rogue will be connected to the future story of Beta-1.

Now, let's get back to the beginning to this article - how is putting the development of Beta-1 on hold going to affect D'LIRIUM? First of all, we'll have more time to think the ideas we want to see in the final release over. Some new features of "The Golden Rogue" will also be added to D'LIRIUM. We watch a lot of movies that inspire us and give us the new ideas. That helps us come up with the ways of making the levels more diverse and the story more interesting. If earlier the game ended on the scene of the meeting with Abel in the Cathedral, in the new version that is only the first part of the game. And that's really great, because we don't want the new players to pass D' in just 30 minutes.

What is happening with D'LIRIUM and what to expect from Beta-1.



My month-long vacation is now over and it's time to get back to work. The development of Beta-1 is going really slow, because the most of our efforts are being put in the development of an expansion, but we are still going to tell you what is to be expected of the next version of the game. So...

In addition to the large amount of bug fixes and the new visual effects, and also changing some levels, almost all of the environment will become interactive. You'll be able to break the windows (already are in early beta-6), turn on the tap in the bathroom, break the pipes and release the poisonous gas at the monsters, open the boxes and take out the items (or nothing) from them, flush the toilet, turn off and then back on the torches with the fireballs. I think you've got the idea. The game will gain some new levels and a new complete story, a big one. There will also be a radio, but we won't tell you much about it. It won't be connected to the gameplay, but will be important for the story. By popular demand, the game will also get a map, but it won't be easy to obtain and won't show where the character is at the moment.

What not to expect from Beta-1 is the random events. The thing is, adding them to the game is a big deal. Not because it's hard to think of all the consequences. But because the random events will be ruining it for the speedrunners, since they'll make it so the luck defines how long the playthrough will be with the given set of random events. Say what you will, but keeping the game adapted for the speedruns and setting new records is really important to us.

Also, we can't really guarantee that Beta-1 will get the cutscenes, because creating even the shortest of them is really time-consuming. But we'll see what we can do.

This is far from the full list of what is going to appear in Beta-1, many things have been overlooked, but, indeed, it'll be a huge update. We don't know when it'll come out yet, because we're working on one more game that will become, let's say, "the opposite side of D'LIRIUM".

Development suspended until July 2018

Kind time of the day, friends! For a long time not much was heard from us, but we didn't sit around all this time. We made a lot of new stuff, the game has significantly changed. However, it's is too early to show.

Nevertheless, the development of the game at this time will have to stop, since I'm busy overhauling a new house, as well as collecting documents before a wedding. In addition, the rest of the team is still busy writing code for the multiplayer game, which, perhaps, we'll show you soon. In July we will continue to work on beta-1, and also tell you more about what awaits you there!
