Hello friends! It's been a year since I last did an official release and during that time I have completely rewritten 80%+ of the app. What this means is there's a great potential for NEW BUGS! I'm always terrified to do a new release and have some bug pop up and... there goes my "very positive" review rating!
So, please, I beg you- help me test this beta out a bit so I can feel comfortable releasing it!
How to do this: In your Steam library, right click on DMT and select Properties Then navigate to the Betas tab the one you want is in the dropdown and is called "experimental" Select that, it should schedule a quick update, and then you will be able to see what I've been up to!
I need as much coverage as possible: different types of headset, running it without a headset at all, different kinds of music input, microphone-in, different genres of music. Trying out all of the comfort settings, and Quality settings. Checking out all of the mods and giving feedback. Can you use it easily with your controllers? What about with mouse and keyboard? Incidentally, let me know how you typically use the app!
Did recentering work? Is there stuff you'd like to see changed? Is there stuff that you think will confuse first-time users?
Does the help section actually help? Any suggestions on rewriting that text to be more useful?
Again, I need to shower you all with thanks! I'm a 1-person team and without your help I would never have gotten to where we are!
Thanks!
New Release!
Wow, I've added a lot since the last full release!
Newer higher-resolution quality mode! Sparsatorium mode! Updated Vortex and Shatter modes! Super-trippy versions of Sparsatorium, Gordian Knot, and The Zone Things and stuff! User requests, like a better way of recentering and an auto-rotate mode!
New Beta!
Wow, I've added a lot since the last release, so please check out this beta so I can release it without losing too much sleep over potential unseen bugs!
Newer higher-resolution quality mode! Sparsatorium mode! Updated Vortex and Shatter modes! Things and stuff! User requests like a better way of recentering!
I'm super-awesome at writing copy!
New Beta, new mode, new hi-res setting!
I posted a new beta with the label "Latest Beta" if you want to check it out before I do the full release.
New mode: sparsatorium: it's crazy!
New quality setting: Ludicrous (if you have a ridiculously powerful machine)
Bugfixes: Someone left me a horrible review. I discovered he'd uncovered a bug, and I fixed it!
some other stuff!
Enjoy, and let me know what you think of the Sparsatorium!
V 2.0 Released!
This is a big update!
New "Shatter" mode!
New "Gordian Knot" mode!
New "The Void" Mode!
New "Vortex" Mode!
These modes are pretty different from what you've seen before and I think you're going to love them!
New audio processing: I'm now processing music using some techniques that make it much more responsive by simulating human audio preception. It's better!
2D mode: People asked for it, I made it! You can play the app without a VR headset
Plus, lots of other stuff you've all asked for!
New Beta!!
Get it now and try it out!
Ok, TONS of stuff in this new beta. I made a bunch of changes under-the-hood and over-the-hood. Here's some of what you'll see (and it's all stuff that needs testing, so please get on the Discussions board after you've checked it out and give me feedback!)
New Modes: This is the "meat and potatoes" of this update. Glitchy has gone away (forever?) and been replaced with Shatter. Shatter may be my favorite mode now. Spinny is renamed "Vortex". FlashFreeze has been replaced with another new mode called "Kaleido" which I'm thinking is very cool. FlashFreeze was cool sometimes, but due to changes Unity made in their engine it no longer works after I upgraded to their newest versions :(
New audio processing: It's all based on simulating human perception now, so the music has much bigger visual impact across the entire spectrum
New shape positioning: I totally rewrote the code that decides where to place the shapes and how to move them. It now runs way faster and it more responsive to the music. But, it also feels a bit different so I'm looking on feedback on whether you all miss the old ways (or even notice a difference)
Please try it out and let me know what you think!
Major update!
Hello friends!
I am super excited to get this new version into your hands! There have been a lot of changes, both to usability and to features. Things like:
1) you all asked for an in-app song browser/player. I had my doubts, but I added it. Now I use it all the time :)
2) no more annoying launch screen! That's right, it now launches directly rather than going to the "pick your resolution" window
ok, so, that's all fine. But what's the big deal?
New modes!
3) I added three new modes: FlashFreeze, Syrup, and TheZone.
I think I default to FlashFreeze and Syrup being turned off, because I know they're not for everybody. TheZone, however, is going to melt your face off!
4) lots of big changes under-the-hood! This is stuff like moving to a newer version of Unity, altering the load/save system to allow new modes and open the door to sharing over Steam Workshop (not yet implemented!)
This stuff won't have any visible impact, but it's paving the way for more crazy updates in the near future. Also it makes me extremely nervous that all of these changes have broken something :) Please let me know if stuffs are busted!
Enjoy!
New Beta: Massive Update
Hi folks!
I've been working on this update since releasing in December and I'm finally ready to get some eyes on it!
Major update!!
1) New modes: When I released, there were two modes (Glitchy and Spinny) now they are joined by The Zone and Flash Freeze! The Zone comes from user requests! Flash Freeze is weird and experimental!
2) In-app file browser/ music player: Sometimes you don't want to take off your headset to launch or change music. Now you don't have to! This will let you play mp3 files off your harddrive. It's a little bit janky, but it works. Feedback wanted!
3) No more startup dialog box: Now when you launch the app it just starts. If you want to change your quality settings you can now do it through the options menu. Anyway if you launch the app with your headset on you no longer need to take it off and click a button to get started. That was just rude.
4) Something you can't see, but I want you to know it's there: The way I added the new modes sets the stage for enabling you all to create and share your own new modes through Steam Workshop! No, I don't have that working yet, but now it's much closer to being done!
If you want to try it out, go to your Steam library, right click on DMT and select Properties. Now you'll see a tab for Betas. Go there and select "development". It will update and you'll be running with the latest, greatest, and probably buggiest!
Please drop by the discussion forums and let me know your thoughts. There are some pretty big changes under the hood, so it's important for me to know if you all like the direction I've taken it in! (or what you liked and what you didn't like)
Thanks for your support, and as always if you like the app please tell your friends!
Full Release!
Friends, the day has come: DMT is moving from Early Access into full release!
Does this mean I'm done? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I still have a million things I want to add, improve, and just mess around with!
But for today, I celebrate! Thank you all so much for the great feedback you gave during Early Access! Keep the ideas flowing- YOU let me know where to focus my energy! YOU keep me inspired! YOU give me great ideas!
I'm going to keep noodling on this thing until I'm 90, but it's YOU who make it all worthwhile!
new beta- try it out!
Hi everyone!
I have put up a new beta. This one has some big changes I want your feedback on!
1) higher resolution: Let me know if this maintains good performance. If it forces you from Ultra to Beautiful, then I am a sad person.
2) better performance: In theory this build should run nice and smooth- so much so that I bumped the resolution up!
3) an old feature has been brought back to life! There used to be (before I released the app) a mode where I would not erase things that were drawn to the screen. It's really effing cool, but it's unpredictable and about 50% of the time ends up looking like nothing is happening. So, I added it back in but I made it last an extremely short time (3-6 seconds) to keep it from looking broken.
