Free Visual Update is here!

Hey Dealers,

We have a pleasure to present the Visual Update for the original Drug Dealer Simulator, created for us by external artists while Byterunners have been busy with DDS2. It is our gift to the fans. Perhaps it will let you relive the emotions of DDS1 in a slightly different way.

The original visuals are still available if you prefer them!

In order to install the OG version, open your DDS page in the Steam app, choose Properties, then Betas, and from the dropdown menu choose Original Visuals.

Visual Update Notes

  • Not visual but still: Cloud Save added
  • Added 1 GB of new textures
  • Toned the colors of terrain for a more natural look
  • Replaced ca. 90% of foliage
  • Increased the density of foliage in selected areas
  • Improved selected materials
  • Prevented the detected rare glitches where some textures rendered black
  • Improved postprocesses: flair, noise, film grain/noise, white balance, saturation
  • Tweak night lighting to light up overly dark areas for a better gaming experience
  • Improved the effects of water and smoke
  • Fixed the positioning of certain objects that were hovering above the ground

Install the update and enjoy your comeback to the Ghetto! And meanwhile, the team will continue working on the DDS2 BigA$$ Update, coming on September 4.

DDS1 will get better visuals?! Indeed

Heyo!

When you thought that DDS1 updates are a thing of the past, we asked an external team of artists to improve the visuals of our firstborn. It’s a small gift from us to the community that’s been ceaslessly supporting the Drug Dealer universe since DDS’s release in 2020.

The update will be FREE. Later on we’ll let you know when it’s supposed to drop, and we’ll give you a full overview of it.

The original version of the game will still be available on a separate branch, so you’ll be able to switch between them at any time.

What’s going to change?

The overhaul affects many aspects of the visuals, but as a whole, it is subtle enough to not change the style of the game. The goal is to make it more pleasant to the eye. It improves colors, lighting, effects, and selected textures to make the game look more natural.

Take a look at a couple of comparisons:

DDS Universe Roadmap: The Big Picture

High, Dealers!

We have extensive plans around our DDS Universe, including all the games in the series. We want to share them so can better understand the timeline and priorities. The #1 priority is of course making DDS2 the best it can be via continuous improvements based on your feedback and the devs’ ambitions, so you can see how much space we’ll dedicate to that.

Afterwards, we’ll focus on expanding the world through free content updates, DLCs, and DDSxNarcos. Oh, and we’ll have a surprise for the fans of DDS1.:)

Without further ado… Here’s the plan!

Trouble with launching the game? Here’s the solution

Hi Dealers,

If you own an Intel 10 (or newer) processor, you may experience problems launching the game. This bug has been present for some time, but with the growing number of new players and newer, more powerful computers, it has become more noticeable recently.

If this happens, here’s the

SOLUTION:

We’ve added a launch option “Play DDS (For newer generation Intels (10+)”

Simply choose it at launch and the game should work just fine.
You can mark “Always use this option” to never bother selecting it again.

WHY DO YOU EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM?

Certain OpenSSL versions used by Unreal Engine 4.13.x - 4.21.x. cause a crash bug that is due to the nature of the technology used and not a fault of the developers. Since we used a 4.21.2 version of the engine, new generations of Intel processors do experience this crash bug. However, this issue affects only a portion of users with newer Intel processors.

Fortunately, the steps necessary to overcome the crash are simple. We have written about them HERE IN OUR FAQ - https://steamcommunity.com/app/682990/discussions/0/3845556684660691089/

Now you can simply use the new launch option to save yourself the hassle. It's safe for you and your computer, and it's a known workaround suggested by Intel themselves.

If the problem persists and affects a bigger part of the community, we'll consider other solutions

We’re sorry that you have experienced the issue.

DDS2 Devlog Recap vol. 7: Fight club!

DDS2 is tomorrow!

NO GUNS but we do have combat now! And there will be some melee weapons you can use to beat the crap out of your enemies.

According to Big Boss Rafal, melee combat fits perfectly into the gameplay of DDS2. It introduces means to defend yourself and play out a more violent playstyle to achieve your goals while not turning Drug Dealer Simulator into another shooter game, which we were purposefully avoiding. Fights between players and enemies, as well as different enemy factions, bring more action, life and thrill into the world.

What kind of enemies are we gonna encounter in the game? There are thugs, the police and gendarmerie. These enemies will be scattered around the world, some will be patrolling an area, and some even guard places of interest, like loot, prisoners or quest objectives. As such, you will not be able to avoid fighting.

And it’s not like they all gang up on you, and you alone. Thugs do fight between themselves so sometimes you might see brawls taking place in the streets or backyards.

If you find yourself in a situation where you have to attack someone or defend yourself, you’ll have a wide range of melee weapons to choose from. From improvised weapons such as kitchen knives, pipes or wrenches all the way to actual machetes or army knives. In some areas of the world, you might get attacked by enemies holding unusual weapons: chairs, bottles, shovels, road signs and more. Sounds kinda nuts, no?

There are many ways you get into the possession of a weapon. Some you’ll find in shops, some you can loot from the environment or the defeated enemies. Enemy weapons do drop damaged and get used up quick, so be careful while using those.

And of course, you can’t have fighting in a game without bosses to defeat. So, in certain places on a map you’ll encounter thug bosses who are a lot harder to defeat, duh, but also drop better loot and weapons when defeated, also duh. These bosses usually spawn with adds around them so do prepare yourself before taking on that challenge.

Fights affect your street cred as well. You might see your cred increasing after fighting thugs but in some cases, fights will impact it negatively. Violence may be a way to easily solve problems but if you are seen fighting by a police/gendarmerie (or if you fight them), you’re gonna suffer consequences.

In DDS2 if you get caught by the gendarmerie or in a raid on one of your hideouts, you can be sent to a work camp. If you get unlucky enough to get there, don’t despair, it’s not the end of the world. Yet. To get out, you’ll need to collect enough passes for your good behaviour. How many is enough? Well, that depends on the crime you are being punished for.

How do you get the passes? There are a few ways to do that: you can either roll cigarettes, wash clothes or bake bread.

Ironically, getting sent to the work camp may be an opportunity for you as well! If you have enough street cred, you can start selling goods there. If you can smuggle them in, that is. It’s worth a try tho, right? That’s a whole new client base!

Just be careful not to make enemies there. Both the guards and fellow prisoners can get offended by some of your actions.

If you can’t be bothered to play nice and earn your passes, there is another method of getting out of the work camp. However, it’s gonna cost you an arm and a leg (money, we mean lots of money), and it counts as running away – it will be noted!

On the other hand, if you want to get that sweet money flowing and expand your clientele to include the work camp folks BUT you don’t wanna get caught to get in, you can. You just need to find an alternative method. Trust us, it is possible.

ALSO, you can now find hidden DDS2 keys in special devlogs. How? And where? You will have to look around and find out for yourself. With love, Alyss <3 If you find one, redeem it on Steam as soon as possible, keep in mind that the game will be playable for you after release.
