Dual Core

Small bug fix update

Hi all - We recently posted a patch to fix some multiplayer issues.
This should fix text chat not working, and some bad lag issues when pressing "alt" in multiplayer.

New update (features & bug fixes)

Another small update

New features:

  • Player lasers/projectiles now pass through friendly players (as well as Corby and other friendly bots). Should alleviate some of the get-out-of-my-way frustrations!
  • Global leaderboard leader is now displayed in Arcade Mode player select screen.
  • Player/controller select now works a bit differently, so Player1 isn't forced to use the first controller, and any player can use the keyboard/mouse

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed extreme slowdown on some Windows10 machines, when gamepads were connected
  • Online-multiplayer: Fixed camera issue when 2 players attempt to revive Corby at the same time
  • Fixed teleporter problem on Level 7 when playing local co-op

If you're enjoying the game, don't forget to leave a review! If you have any feedback , be sure to post a message on the community page :)

Dual Core soundtrack now on Steam

Dual Core's soundtrack is now available directly from Steam! You should be able to find it on the store page, but if not, here's a link:

Crash bug fix

There's an update now available which should fix a nasty memory-leak bug that would cause the game to crash after a fixed amount of time. It seemed especially bad on Windows10 machines, where it would reliably crash the game within 30 minutes(!!!) So sorry for any frustration this may have caused...

Thanks to those who reported it, let me know if there's still any issues...

Minor update - Bug fixes, and Corby stats

Just a quick post - there's a new update available that fixes a few bugs. It also adds Corby's stats to the end-of-level summary screen, so you'll now definitively be able to say how helpful (or not!) that chatty blue droid was being!

Online multiplayer, demo version, and more!

The latest update includes online multiplayer. It's still in BETA, but now in the main version of the game (not the beta branch)

There's also a bunch of other fixes, including improved mouse/keyboard controls (popup inventory on RMB, so no more awkward key combinations!). We also speeded up projectiles a little (by popular demand!)

For those still on the fence, a free demo version of the game is now available - click the "Download Demo" on the store page.

Last but not least, work continues on a brand new game mode, featuring procedurally generated levels. Not 100% sure yet when this will go live, but hopefully it will be something that will see ongoing updates, with new content and features. We'd love to hear feedback on the kind of things you'd like to see in this game mode.

Online multiplayer beta is here!

The long awaited online multiplayer beta has arrived! This means you can now play Story & Arcade co-op modes online with friends. To give it a try, right click 'properties' on Dual Core in Steam, go to the 'Betas' tab, and select "publicbeta".

To start an online game, you should proceed as if you were going to play normally (currently 'Versus' mode isn't supported), but select "online (beta)" from the character select screen. This will allow you to browse and/or create online games.

There was a lot of work involved in this update(!), so it's very possible that there are still a few bugs present (hence it being a beta). I'll be fixing these as I find them, or as you report them, but the ones I'm most interested in hearing about right now, are issues with being able to create or connect to games. Let me know of any problems! (and watch out for pesky firewalls blocking internet access to the game)

Network lag/latency is always going to be a tricky issue with an arcade-y game like Dual Core, but hopefully I've been able to minimise its effects.

Once I'm sure everything is reasonably reliably, and I haven't introduced any game breaking bugs(!) I'll bring the new features across to the main version.

In addition, this beta version includes some udpated mouse controls, which hopefully imrpoves the use of inventory when using keyboard/mouse. You can now use RMB to bring up an inventory popup.

Soundtrack now available!

Dual Core next update progress report! (online multiplayer & new game mode)

So I've been quietly working away on future updates - I have the beginnings of a new game mode featuring procedurally generated levels (leave a comment if you have suggestions on the direction you'd like this to go!). In addition, I've made a lot of progress on implementing online multiplayer - it's a big task but maybe there will be a something to show - at least in beta form - within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks to everyone who's supported the game - don't forget to leave a review!
