Attention, defenders! It's getting a little toasty here at the studio, so we decided to beat the heat with a holiday-themed timed event for Dungeon Defenders II! During the last week of July, enjoy double Defender Pass experience, as well as the return of a (usually) holiday-excusive pet; the Snow Mage!
The Snow Mage will be obtainable as a rare drop from all victory chests for the duration of the event.
This event doesn't actually help us cool down at all, but it is a fun distraction. Have fun!

Debuting alongside our next major update—Seas of Dragonfall Part II—is a significant revamp to the Initiate! While the initiate has always been a valuable hero, we've felt that her kit lacks significant identity when compared to the greater roster. With two brand-new abilities and a significant rework of another, we believe the Initiate will now shine even brighter alongside her fellow heroes. Let’s dive into the details!
Abilities
Breath of the Dragon(Replacing Chi Stomp) - Summon an ethereal dragon that unleashes a brief cone of flames in front of you. This deals magical fire damage and burns enemies, causing damage over time.
Chi Aura(Replacing Heal) - Channel your chi into an aura around you, healing yourself and nearby allies while crippling and slowing enemies!
Crippling Chi Wave - As it is now, 'Crippling Chi Wave' can feel slow and clunky to use. With these changes, we hope to make it a more fluid and fun ability;
Unlocked movement while casting Crippling Chi Wave.
Decreased charge time from 1s to 0.25s.
Projectile now auto-fires on full charge.
Increased projectile speed by 50%.
Increased max pierce targets from 5 to 10.
Reduce the mana cost of Crippling Chi Wave from 50 to 40.
Shards
With new abilities, we've also added a number of new shards to enable more varied and dynamic styles of play.
Blessing of the Dragon - +x% critical chance and +x% critical damage for 5 seconds after using Breath of the Dragon.
Chi Boost - Increases hero damage by x% while Chi Aura is active.
Chi Burn - Enemies inside Chi Aura burn for x% of your ability power as magic damage every second.
Goat Transmog - x% chance for Crippling Chi Wave to transmog enemies into goats for 3 seconds on-hit. Transmogrified enemies take x% more damage.
Crippling Strikes - Attacks have a 25% chance to fire a piercing Chi Wave that deals x% hero damage as magical damage and cripples enemies, increasing damage taken by x%.
Enduring Flame - Increases Breath of the Dragon burn damage by x% and increases burn duration by x seconds.
Enhanced Flames - Increases the damage of Breath of the Dragon by x%.
Protective Chi - While Chi Aura is active, gain a shield that decreases incoming damage by x%.
Mods
And finally, several mods have been reworked to reflect the Initiate's newfound abilities;
Thundering Stomp Chip reworked into Thundering Roar Chip - +x second stun on Breath of the Dragon.
Stomp Height Chip reworked into Burning Talisman Chip - Enemies within the range of the talisman burn for x% of your ability power and are crippled.
We hope you enjoy these sneak-peeks and can't wait for you to try out the Initiate's new kit for yourself!
