Dungeon Souls Development Update


Hey everyone! Some of you are probably wondering why hasn't there been any recent update to the game (having into account the update frequency). We, the Dungeon Souls team and Lamina Studios team, have something to tell you. We're currently undergoing some internal changes in the company.

What Is This About?



Due to internal changes that are being made in the company, the development progress of Dungeon Souls has become quite slow (and is expected to keep like this for at least a month or two). As such, no updates will probably occur between the writing of this news and the 1-2 months time frame. We do know that some of you will be upset when reading this (since we have been reading the Steam discussions and emails sent about bugs, suggestions and feedback in general), but we can only apologize for the upcoming small hiatus in updates and ask you for your understanding and patience. We would also like to take this time to appreciate all ongoing support that you've shown for the game, as we feel that, no matter how many times we do express it, it is never enough! In all honesty, the player base is what is supporting the development of the game and the addition of new features (if it weren't for you guys and gals, we doubt we've had added any features or updates since 2017), so thank you for the support!

That's Great And All But What About The Issues And Features Of The Game That Still Need To Be Tackled?



As stated previously, we've been paying attention to the feedback you've been given, from issues to suggestions. Some of the most worrying aspects are as follows:


  • Items for those players who signed the sign board and helped with the game during its pre-release
  • Modding support fixes and functionalities
  • Controller support (bugs, adaptation to certain OS, removal of "clunky" feeling to the controls)
  • Local co-op (bugs related with local co-op functionality of the game)


In regard to the list above, these issues will be worked on and have not been forgotten. However, their development is currently slower than what would be desirable.


In Sum


We, as a team, decided it would be best to inform you of the small hiatus in updates. We do not have the intetion to say that the game won't be developed at all with this message. Our goal is simply to inform you, as a player, that the next update will take a long time before it arrives and to hang on and bear with us!

Dungeon Souls v1.1.1 - Modding Hotfix

Game Bugs

  • Back From Vacations - Fixed a bug where Judgement level would not appear.
  • Fixed a bug where Herberk's Pendant would get replaced by Destroyer's Hammer.
  • Fixed a bug where picking active items would make every other item turn into the picked up item.


Modding Editor Bugs

  • Fixed a bug where files wouldn't get deleted.
  • Fixed a typo on the documentation of "getPlayerAttribute" and "setPlayerAttribute" in regards to the maximum hp.


Known Issues




  • In some systems (both operative system and hardware components), the game has severe lags spikes for brief periods of time. This usually has to do with malfunctioning input devices, but a fix is being developed. If this occurs to you, please send an email to laminastudios@gmail.com with the operative system you have and hardware, as well as any relevant information (the time you were playing at and what were you doing).
  • Currently, to some players, Steam functionalities are not working under Linux systems, as well as a few in-game functionalities (such as minimap). We are working into resolving this issue.
  • During co-op, heroes have a different currency than the one specified on the HUD, resulting in some characters being able to buy certain items that the other player can't (due to gold spent). This will be fixed in a future patch.




Dungeon Souls v1.1 - Modding Support

Modding Support



We have added modding support for Dungeon Souls! Hurray! ːsteamhappyː

Currently, the modding feature is limited to items only, but if players like it a lot and we start seeing quite the engagement, more features are to come! Here is a small roadmap of what we have planned for modding support, in case the community wants more of it:

Game Elements


Redeemer
Changed Redeemer's behaviour due to feedback concerning the amount of time available in a dungeon before Redeemer appeared. On easy and normal difficulties, redeemer will take twice the amount of time to appear (x2 multiplier). Also, the base amount of time it takes for the Redeemer to appear has been increased by over 60%.

Voice Acting
Changed both Skeleton King's and Slime Gargantulum's voice lines! We've also changed Slime Gargantulum's voice and revamped Skeleton King's!

Hero Balancing



We've taken a look into the feedback obtained from the hero balancing survey! From an analysis, we found out that every hero seems to be both over powered and under powered (suggesting that it depends on the player's play style). However, there were some heroes who were more "unfairly" under powered when compared with other heroes. We also observed general feedback in regard to abilities and cooldowns. As such, here is our hero balancing update! We hope you guys like it! ːsteamhappyː

Passives


At max passive level (and, proportionally, all levels below):

  • Changed passive health from 75% to 50%.
  • Changed passive damage from 40% to 30%
  • Changed passive crit from 25% to 20%
  • Changed passive defense from 150% to 120%
  • Changed passive resist from 140% to 120%


Barbarian



Thunder Axe
Increased shockwave scaling damage from 10+(5 per skill level) physical damage and 90+(10 per skill level) magical damage to 70+(10 per skill level) physical damage and 60+(10 per skill level) magical damage.

Cooldowns
Changed Shout of Rage's cooldown from 15 seconds to 10.
Changed Thunder Axe's cooldown from 18 seconds to 4.

Archer



Cooldowns
Changed Pentuple Arrow's cooldown from 12 seconds to 10.
Changed Rain of Arrows' cooldown from 18 seconds to 6.

Thief


Stats


  • Increased base hp by 10.


Thief Bomb changed to (NEW)Dagger Flurry:

Throws an empowered dagger at up to 6+(1 per skill level) nearby enemies, dealing 150+(40 per skill level) physical damage.

Changed Invisibility's cooldown from 14 seconds to 8.

Wizard


Stats


  • Increased base hp by 20.

Duplicate
Now creates a flash fire that deals 80+(30 per skill level) magical damage to nearby enemies.

Changed basic attack cooldown from 1 second to 0.8 seconds.
Changed Duplicate's cooldown from 14 seconds to 6.

Cleric


Stats
Increased base hp by 20

Holy Gate
Now grants split projectiles +20+(10 per skill level)% extra magic damage.

Regeneration
Now instantly heals for 20+(20 per skill level) and grants 10+(2 per skill level) health regeneration each 3 seconds.
Reduced cooldown from 15 seconds to 12.

Necromancer



Blood for Attack
Now adds 50+(30 per skill level)% physical damage and 50+(10 per skill level)% magic damage, but consumes 10+(5 per skill level)% health per basic attack and reduces health regen by 75%

NightBlade



Thick Armour
Grants 50+(10 per skill level) defense for 3 seconds, during which nightblade starts expelling energy. After the 3 seconds, thick armour explodes, dealing 120+(20 per skill level)% physical and 120(+20 per skill level)% magical damage to nearby enemies.

Weapon Switch

Changed the effect so that the first 2+(2 per skill level) strikes deal the extra damage.

Engineer

Increased movement speed by 0.1

Game Elements



Redeemer


Changed Redeemer's summon behaviour. Now, the redeemer will appear after a certain amount of time has passed (more than enough to complete the level), regardless of the number of activated marks. It will also appear after activating the final mark.

This change derived from a review requested by players, since the Redeemer's purpose in the game wasn't obvious (since you could grind on a level for ever, as long as the last mark remained unactive). Special thanks to Steam user Einko for his suggestion on the matter!

Items



Sign Board
A little bit of a more personal note here: about a year ago, we requested players that helped with the game's alpha and beta stages to sign a Sign Board, since we had a surprise stored. However, we took a long time to reply to this surprise (even though the original intent never changed, which was personal custom items named after the players) and we'd like to apologize for the time it has taken! In the next patches, ALL people that signed the board up until now will get an item in the game named after them.

We will continue doing and extend this rewarding behaviour to any players we see are worthy of it, being dependent on factors such as their participation in the game, engagement with the community and overall support for the game! ːsteamhappyː

Bugs



  • Fixed a bug where the ending cutscenes were being displayed without having freed all heroes.
  • IMPORTANT: Added a temporary fix mechanism to the Out-Of-Map issue. Now, when out of bounds, if the player exceeds a square area around the map, the player will be teleported back to the dungeon's door.
  • IMPORTANT: Fixed a bug, in internal tests, where difficulty would not unlock. This means that we could no longer reproduce the bug and, players who were contacted by us with this issue no longer could as well. However, we're still not 100% sure if it's fixed. If you experience this bug, despite the fix, please email us at laminastudios@gmail.com or diogo.braga@laminastudios.com so we can enter in contact with you.
  • Fixed a bug where bane scepter would always crash upon use.
  • Fixed a bug where Power weapons could add negative bonus damage.
  • Fixed a bug where background audio music would fail to change with the slider's value
  • Fixed a bug where the inventory would disappear with the tutorial's message.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could take damage during cutscenes.
  • Fixed a bug where the enemies on the core would persist after the core's stabilization.


Feedback Changes



  • Changed quick-cast so it automatically casts the ability, instead of first shifting to the desired ability and, after a second press, casting it.
  • Implemented a suggestion related to the arcane forge UI described in this post! Thanks Steam user KERBAL BASS
  • Reduced health regeneration passive max value from 3 health per second to 2 health per second (changes all values below it, accordingly)

The christmas event has just arrived! From the 22nd to the 28th of Decemeber, you will be able to play the special game mode in the Frozen Land! This mode will have you saving good children from naughty, demon children sent by Judgement! After rescueing each child, you'll take on Santa's job by awarding them a present!

Objective:
Save the children from the demons and gift them presents.

Reward:
Christmas Event Recipes and ingredients.

Accessability:
You can access the Frozen Land via the orange, santa-hatted teleporter. The teleporter will appear in the ice level. It will not spawn in a boss room.

Duration:
The event lasts from the 22nd of december to the 28th of december.

    Gamepad Deadzone Axis
    We've added a new option under "Gamepad Settings" that enables the player to customize the global deadzone value for the joysticks of gamepads. The higher the value, the higher the displacement of the joystick needs to be for the game to recognize that the joystick has moved.

    Arcane Forge


    Armory
    You can now unequip items. To do so, press 'R' (or the Y button on a gamepad) to enter in the unequip mode. Pressing the "pick" key will remove the selected item.

    Items


    Power Weapons
    Changed conversion effect of all power weapons. Now converts 5% of the damage dealt, instead of 100%.

    • Fixed a bug where gamepad deadzone would not be recognized for the right stick (we're still going to implement the way to customize the deadzone value).
    • Fixed a bug where Chroma Sword recipe was not being granted correctly. Everyone who got all recipes from Chroma event, except the Chroma Sword, will receive the Chroma Sword automatically
    • Fixed a bug where Mac users would not get the game to go window mode with the correct window resolution, when in windowed mode.
    • Improved FPS when casting Archer's Rain of Arrows.
    • Changed the walls on Rockstone Mountain to contrast better with the floor.
    • Applied an overlay effect to marks on Rockstone Mountain so they could be better distinguished from the floor.
    • Made the item information on the inventory screen more opaque with the goal of providing clearer information.
    • Changed teleporters so that they only stop working if items are near it, not potions.
