[Dev Note] Our Christmas Update!

Greetings from Orbis!

I’m happy to announce Dysterra’s first seasonal update! We’re aiming for a release sometime mid-next week. Let us know what you think in the Discord.

Decorate your base!




With this update, you’ll be able to craft Christmas trees and install them in and around your base.

Craft useful wintertime snacks!




We’ve also got some holiday themed snacks for your character to enjoy!

The menu for this holiday season is:
Holiday Cookies
Christmas Turkey
Holiday Pudding


You can craft them with Holiday Fiber Meal Kits and Holiday Protein Meal Kits that you can now find around the map. I don’t want to spoil the fun, so you can have fun finding where they are.

One of the above foods will fill you up more than any other food in the game, another will alleviate fracture, bleeding, and radiation status effects all at the same time, and one of the above foods will reduce your system overload cooling time after a hacking failure.

We hope you enjoy our first seasonal update, and we’re looking forward to making bigger additions to the game in the future.

[Patch Note] Hardcore Mode, A.I. Improvements, and more

I hope you all have been enjoying the changes we made in our last patch! Many of the major bugs have been ironed out over the past two weeks, and now we’re focused on optimizing gameplay systems and improving overall player experience. We’re still watching the channels in our Discord Server, so you’re welcome to leave feedback whenever you feel like sharing.

This week we have updates to enemy AI, facility skills, ranking points, balancing, and we’re finally opening the hardcore servers you’ve all been asking for.

AI Improvements for NPCs



We’re working hard on the AI in Dysterra, and we’ll be making incremental updates as we go. This week we made the AI more realistic by updating how mobs detect their surroundings. They’re more sensitive to nearby sounds, so they’re now more likely to hear someone walking nearby, or react to gunshots from a greater distance.

They’re also a lot more persistent. So now they shouldn't randomly turn around and return to their original spot. They’ll keep running after you as long as they can see you.

We’re hoping these changes will increase the overall tension in the game.

Facility Skills : World Span Changes



Unlike other games that wipe their servers every x days, Dysterra let’s survivors control when (or if) a wipe happens. By using the controllers you get when conquering a facility, you’ll be able to lengthen or shorten the lifespan of your server.

We looked at the difficulty of each facility, and adjusted the values according to how many people conquered each facility, and how much each controller was used to increase or decrease the number of days left till wipe. You can press ‘K’ during gameplay to access the facility menu and learn more.

Please note: each server has a maximum lifespan, and the server life cannot be increased past that value.

We are also aware that survivors are interested in a variety of server lifespans, and we’re planning to comment on that at a later date.

Ranking point changes when escaping the world



When a server is ready to wipe (see facility skills section above), players can get on a rocket to escape and earn extra points to improve their global ranking.

Originally you would only receive a set amount of points for getting on the rocket, but now you’ll get a different amount depending on how long you survived in the world. The longer you survived, the more points you’ll get!

New Hardcore Servers



The hardcore servers you’ve all been waiting for are finally coming!! PvP in Dysterra has never been this thrilling! Be prepared to drop EVERYTHING when you die.

Hardcore servers aren’t for the faint of heart:
- No safety slots! You drop all of your items when you die.
- You start with only the bare essential items.

Everything else is exactly the same.

Balance Changes


On a side note, we added the “fracture” status effect to a number of enemies. “Fracture” reduces your speed temporarily.

We also increased the attack power for a number of enemies. I think it’ll be more fun if I don’t tell you which ones.

1) Improved NPC AI
- Improved NPCs to continuously track characters in their sight even if they leave their zone
- NPCs now detects farther gunshot sounds than before and looks at the direction of gun fire
- NPCs now looks at the direction of gun fire when they detect gunshot sounds even if they are moving in alert state
- The nearby NPC detection value changes depending on the NPC status (default, alert, attack)
2) Reduced the audible distance of the Turret operation sound
3) Increased the amount of Stones collected from all resources where Stones can be obtained (▲10%)
4) Increased NPC attack damage at Chemochamber, Geolab, Satellite Station, Orbis Base (15 > 25)

2) Fixed an issue where the number of overlaps in the character death record was displayed abnormally

4) Fixed an issue where the energy consumption per minute (100) was lower than the actual (40) per minute when converting Fine Terrasite in Forges

✅ Anti-cheat and security enhancements are ongoing on a regular basis
✅ Increased maximum power reserves of all levels of building core and resource conversion rate
✅ Increased the maximum purchasable amount for base defence items in terrasite transmitter stores.
✅ increased the radiation resistance of syringes and armours.
✅ Reduced respawn cooldown time for all types of beds.

The time of application of these fixes may be delayed due to the priority of the update preparation process, but they will all be applied as soon as possible.

We’ve been listening.

I’d like to say thank you to all of the amazing survivors that have taken time out of their days to give feedback and help us improve Dysterra. We sincerely appreciate your efforts and are doing our best to fix any issues as quickly as we can.

We’ve also been implementing anti-cheat solutions on an almost daily basis to prevent hackers from ruining everyone’s fun.

Here’s what we’re adding/changing/removing in this patch:

1. Energy Consumption



Improvements to energy consumption in bases.
- Increased maximum power reserves of all levels of building core.
- Increased the amount of energy received when converting terrasite in the building core.

2. Offline Base Protection


- Increased the maximum purchasable amount for base defense items in terrasite transmitter stores.
- Adjusted prices for base defense items in terrasite transmitter stores.

3. Radiation


Improvements to radiation management.
- Reduced the cost of anti-radiation level 2 shots.
- Increased how much anti-radiation level 2 shots reduce radiation levels
- Increased radiation resistance of the hazmat shirt armor.
- We are planning more radiation related buffs in the near future.

4. Respawning


- Drastically reduced respawn cooldown time for all types of beds.

5. Fine Terrasite Farming



- Improved the probability of collecting fine terrasite when mining from fine terrasite nodes and
superior terrasite nodes.

6. Garage Doors


A large number of survivors commented about how their vehicles were being stolen.
- We added a cheaper, more accessible garage door for bases.
- The existing garage door is now the level 2 upgrade of the new cheaper garage door.

7. Hacking Probabilities



- Due to a multitude of complaints of vehicle theft on the island, we’ve severely lowered the success rate of vehicle hacking.
- We’ve also raised the success probability for some secure crates (hackable crates).

8. Recipe Error


Fixed the “fine fiber boots” recipe.
- The recipe for crafting fine fiber boots was different when crafting with a workbench vs. without a workbench. We’ve lowered the cost of the workbench recipe so that both recipes are the same.

9. Daily Missions


- We removed missions related to building due to their impracticality.

10. Building


- We made the process of installing/placing Floors(ceilings) a bit more easy and intuitive.

A note to survivors regarding non-repairable items:


Some survivors have asked about why some items are not repairable. These items in the game can be obtained quickly through spot events. To discourage abuse of these drops, these items are non-repairable. Please keep this in mind while playing the game.
