Finished all campaign chapters already? Think it’s been too easy? Neither Sarah the Chief nor the noisome Yeti posed any problem? Well, old enemies may return… and become stronger!
Having completed any chapter of the campaign on regular difficulty, you’ll be able to play it again in Hard Mode. The enemies will be much stronger and more vicious, and their decks will present a tough challenge even to experienced players. The stakes are high, but so is the reward!
In addition, we're going to change the rating earning system in the Champion's League. From now on, at the beginning of each season, all players who have quialified for the League will see their points reset, so that everyone has equal chances to progress, which will make the competition more dynamic.
Campaign: Chapter 2!
The Echo of Combats campaign has finally received its long-awaited new chapter! Our heroes will visit the Forbidden Forest--a mysterious and magical place, where they will learn who tried to take their lives.
Explore the eldritch woods to find answers… and treasures! As a reward for completing Chapter 2, you will get chests with cards and gold coins--Ekrs.
However, the denizens of this enchanted place are dangerous enemies, so don’t expect a cakewalk! Stay vigilant.
And remember: Don’t feed the beasts!
New mode: Arena!
We’re proud to present to you a new game mode: ARENA! In this challenge, you will have to create a new deck using only a random set of cards and use it to defeat as many players as you can before you suffer three losses. The more fights you win, the more handsome your reward will be. If you are able to win in 9 fights, you’ll get the ultimate prize - the World Devourer Scroll.
Ah, yes, the prizes… Do you feel sometimes frustrated that you can’t keep a powerful card that you’ve found in the Arena? In Echo of Combats, it is possible! After 6 wins (the Minotaur Scroll), you’ll be able to choose a card from your Arena deck and add it to your collection! The more wins you have, the higher the rarity of the cards you can keep is. Champions of the Arena get an opportunity to keep even legendary cards.
To celebrate a new game mode, each player will receive a free Arena ticket! We've also fixed the Discord button, so that you could easily join our Echo of Combats channel!
Good luck on the Arena, fighters!
Balance adjustments
Globb and Prince of Thieves, the last two bosses in the campaign, have been nerfed. Now they have less health and less aggressive decks. In addition, you can now see the abilities of the current boss or a defeated boss by clicking (or with a long tap) on their portrait on the map screen.
Some regular cards have also been modified:
Master of pain - attributes reduced to 4/4.
Bog slime - attributes reduced to 6/6.
Makhmoud the Hero - gains Armor at the beginning of your turn, not in the end.
Terrifier - attributes reduced to 1/2, the cost is 2 mana drops.
Bogatyr - Ranged attacks deal 1 damage.
Isis the Damned - attributes reduced to 1/2, the cost is 2 mana drops.
Tactical marksman - the cost is 3 mana drops.
Play with a Friend: A new mode!
From now on, you’ll be getting all the latest Echo of Combats notifications right in game! You will see all the announcements, patch notes and updates on the main screen, after you launch the game. In order to read them later, you can always click the horn icon.
In the bottom of the news screen there are links to Echo of Combats pages in Steam, VK, Facebook, and Discord, where you can find other players to talk to or play with.
But the main feature of this update is the new Play with a Friend mode, in which you can start a combat with a specific person (elf/cyborg/any other entity that’s also playing Echo of Combats), rather than with a random opponent. You can just share a special code that was generated in the “Room” field with your friend and click the “Play” button. As soon as your friend pastes the code in the corresponding field in their game and clicks the “Play” button, you will be matched for a friendly combat!
Among other news, now you will gain rewards for winning streaks that include tutorial combats, or combats at lowest ranks (30-27). The winning streak progress will still be calculated in ordinary and ranked combats, as well as in the campaign. Playing with AI or friends will not count towards your winning streak.
There are also small changes in the campaign. Now you will be able to see the card with the abilities of the current (or previous) campaign boss just with a long tap (or, in the Steam version, by moving the mouse cursor over it). Responding to your numerous requests, we’ve also extended the player turn timer to 10 mins.
Wish you fun combats! Stay tuned for further updates!
Out of Early Access
We have been testing Echo of Combats for a long time, getting rid of bugs, collecting statistics of thousands of battles, and adding various improvements. Thanks to you, fighters, and your feedback, the game was turning out better and better. Thanks to everyone who had gone through this period with us. Today, we’re proud to announce that we’re leaving Early Access and going into a full release!
We’ve also added a much-awaited campaign mode to the game. Currently, you can play the first chapter of an ambitious Echo of Combats adventure, and we’ll try to continue the story in a timely manner. In the campaign, you’ll find new cards, as well as bosses with unique abilities, requiring you to invent new winning tactics!
Cross-play Support
We’re happy to announce one of the biggest updates since Echo of Combats was launched: from now on, players in Steam will be able to combat players on different platforms, such as mobile!
Besides, you will be able to play Echo of Combats with your account on other Internet-enabled devices, and not only on your desktop PC! Make sure to merge your accounts in order to keep your progress across different platforms.
Achievements are unlocked!
That mysterious button with a crown on it has left players wondering for a long time. Now it’s time to unveil its purpose! We’re proud to tell you that the Statistics & Achievements screen is now enabled!
In this long-awaited update, we’ve added dozens of achievements to Echo of Combats, each having three levels that would earn you nice prizes. Fight, win, and collect cards, and your patience will be rewarded!
Almost all achievements are available in the current version, however some levels (such as Power overwhelming) have been added for future expansions.
We’re planning to add even more various achievements which would require players to test their wits and luck.
In addition, in the same screen you will be able to see your victories in different modes, as well as the reward you would get at the end of the current season.
The loss of game progression fixed
Hello! Few days ago we investigated a support request and found out we had an odd User Database issue. Some users had temporarily lost their game progression because of it. We restored their accounts. Sorry for inconvenience.
We in the Echo of Combats developing team have been silent for quite some time, but we were not idle. We’ve been preparing a massive update for you that will add a number of improvements making the game even more playable and beautiful.
VFX & SFX
The first things that will strike your eyes are revamped card movement animations in-battle. Now, the cards are moving smoothly and pleasingly. Also, new effects for casting spells, fatigue and overdrawing have been added.
Try opening a new chest—some new FX are hiding there as well! Chests are now exploding more brightly, and every card is now revealed with a splash effect that corresponds to its rarity and foil statis. Opening new booster packs has never been so appealing!
There are also certain improvements in the audio department. Some old sounds have been revamped, and new SFX have been added.
Buff effects and Dynamic card descriptions
However, Echo of Combats has got more than just a facelift. We have modified some gameplay-related elements, too, by introducing a couple of new features.
Earlier, players were unable to see buffs and debuffs affecting the cards; they had to guess what they were, based on the changed attributes of the cards, which was really awkward and non-informative. The latest update, however, brings in new labels for all active effects that show up in full-screen view of the card. These labels allow you to see not only the effect itself and how many times it has been used, but also the source card. You can also scroll through multiple effects.
Cards that have dynamic attributes, i.e. those that can change under specific conditions when the card is played, have got… dynamic descriptions! From now on, you won’t have to painstakingly count skeletons in the graveyard or gnomes on the battlefield. The card text will be directly modified according to the bonuses it will have when played.
Technical innovations and improvements
As usual, every massive update includes improved optimization, bug fixes, and other improvements that work behind the screen… However, some of them can be spotted with a naked eye!
When a player’s turn is about to end, a small stream of lava appears in the middle of the screen, reminding them to hurry up. This reminder has been there for a long time already. However, multiple playtests have shown that after several missed turns the stream desynchronizes with the real timer, confusing the player. A turn could have ended when the stream is not even half-way through the screen! However, we have solved this problem, and now the lava is always punctual and shows exactly how much time is left to make your turn!
It is always frustrating to lose network connection during a battle or when making up your deck; it is even more frustrating not to know that this is the reason behind game slowdowns. When a critical connection loss happens, you will now see a “connection lost” icon in the upper right corner of the screen giving you an opportunity to act appropriately… or accept your fate.
Very soon, we are going to announce an even more massive update which will make Echo of Combats even more mobile! Stay tuned!
