The Ember Knights Timeline
Spring 2019 - Pre-production
Initial concepts and prototyping begins
The first idea, that was somewhat close to where we ended up, was a more RPG-based game complete with NPC behaviors, day and night cycles, etc.
Working title is Pixablo
*A little bit of trivia - the original concept that we pitched to Ontario Creates, for funding assistance, was a kart racing game
You might start to see how we ended up with the iconic flame-headed hero we have today
Spring 2020 - Major Gameplay Change
A pivotal meeting occurred where we decided that we were on the wrong path. It was this meeting where we learned that no one in the studio was excited about playing the game we were making...clearly a red flag lol
Taking a step back and with a critical eye, we analyzed what we had and decided that the only thing about the game that was good was the combat. We decided to focus on making that the foundation of the game, improving and polishing it as much as we could, and scrapping everything else
Name changed to Rogue Souls
Summer 2020 - Major Story Change
We changed the story from being a ghostly character in the afterlife to a fire-imbued hero destined to save the world
This is the point where the game really starts to take shape
September 2020 - Publisher Search
With our Steam page now public, publishers start reaching out to us
A small group out of France takes interest and discussion with Asmodee (now Twin Sails) begins
November 2020 - Closed Beta
We begin the search for external testers
December 2020 - The Birth of Ember Knights
With the change in story, we decided to change the name to Ember Knights
This proved to be a grueling process of about 2 weeks with over 50 other names not making the cut
February 2021 - Gameplay Revealed
The first gameplay trailer is released
Footage is barely recognizable now as we've come along way with improvements and polish

Open Beta - Architect Fight Changes
Hello, Knights!
A few of you have shared your thoughts about the Architect fight being a little too easy, so we've been working on some changes that we feel punch the fight up a little bit. We didn't take the fight to soul-crushing levels, but feel like the changes we did make bring a nice level of difficulty to the battle.
Before we fully roll out changes to the Architect fight, we'd like to get your feedback. If you're interested in testing these proposed changes, you'll need to opt in to a special experimental beta.
Instructions for Joining the Experimental Branch
From your Steam library, right click on Ember Knights and select Properties...
On the left of the popup, click Betas
In the Private Betas section, enter TheArchitectIsGoingDown and click Check Code
A new blue button should appear below that says Opt into: experimental - Branch for external testing. Click this button
Close the popup and launch Ember Knights

Ember Knights Makeship - Steward Plushie!
Greetings, Knights!
A bunch of you have been asking about Ember Knights merch, especially a plushie. We've been looking into it and found the perfect plushie partner in Makeship!
Check out the concepts for the adorable little Steward!
Before the plushies go into production, Makeship runs a short campaign to see if there's enough interest.
During the campaign, players are able to pledge $2 towards the purchase of their plushie. If the minimum number of 200 pledges is reached, the plushies get made and shipped to everyone who pledged.

We wanted to get you another hotfix patch before the weekend. We fixed a bunch of issues and as always, a huge thanks to our community for helping identify and troubleshoot a lot of these!

Fixed a bug with Umbral Ember Buster Challenge where charge attacks weren't being counted when the Buster Ammo Skill Ultimate Upgrade is equipped 🔥
Fixed a bug with Ember Buster's Sticky Bomb where the count was not properly updated if the status effect was cleared from a miniboss or boss dying 🔥
Fixed a bug with Ice Burst and Ground Hunter where the combination could freeze enemies without requiring a Perfect cast 🔥
Fixed a bug that was causing the training dummy to disappear after visiting the Trophy Hall 🔥
Fixed a bug with Stormpike where it would immediately collide with a wall if casting next to a wall 🔥
Fixed a bug with Boss Rush and local co-op where players couldn't leave after defeating Warlord Mack, Dreadlord Mack, or Oukranos 🔥

Fixed a multiplayer bug where players could enter the cutscene trigger in the start room of Simulan before all other players were loaded in 🔥
Fixed a multiplayer bug where rerolling the shop 256 times would cause clients to no longer be able to reroll
Closed the tear in the room before seeing True Praxis or The Architect
Improved the visual clarity of difficulty modifiers that can have their options toggled independently 🔥

The reception for the Wrath of the Architect DLC has been incredible and we're super glad you're loving the update! It makes all the hard work leading up to launch worth it!
You've also been very helpful in identifying and troubleshooting the handful of new bugs. We've addressed the biggest ones and have included the fixes in the following hotfix patch. Please see below for details.

Fixed a major issue that was causing the majority of multiplayer issues in 3 and 4 player games 🔥
Fixed an issue with save files where a large gap between updates could cause old save files to be reset 🔥
Fixed an issue where players couldn’t interact with The Collector unless they reset the rebinding on their interact key 🔥
Fixed an issue where players could become softlocked during the Lady Inferna fight 🔥
Fixed an issue where Netherra could not be entered from Simulan with 15 or more difficulty orbs enabled 🔥
Fixed an issue that could cause a softlock when the Golden Steward appears 🔥
Fixed a bug where players could become stuck in one of the Boss Rush rooms 🔥
Fixed a bug that was causing 4 Steam achievements to be automatically granted 🔥
Fixed a bug that was preventing Champion enemies from spawning in DLC worlds 🔥
Fixed an issue with selectors not having any options in multiplayer games 🔥
Fixed an issue with players being unable to access the secret room in Simulan 🔥
Fixed a bug that was causing a softlock with Incompetence and upgrading a skill without equipping a second skill
Fixed an issue with Webblings in Boss Rush Mode that could cause a softlock
