Early Access Diaries #2 and what's next

Hi guys,

this week the update comes a bit earlier because I am gonna be away for 2-3 days (I will still have internet on my mobile, but not on the laptop), so I thought it better to update here before going.

These are the things we're gonna work on from next week. They are all pretty short, should be handled in 5-7 days maximum. That of course, together with a continuous bug fixing and getting started with localizations.

  • Adding the tutorial to Sandbox mode
  • Balancing duration and effect of the Rebellious events
  • Balancing out the research costs (Chapter 4 and 5 mostly)
  • Adding Sandbox mode to the Demo
  • Bug fixing bug fixing bug fixing

And then, we are gonna get started (we already began to be honest) with the first 2 big next things coming:

  • In game settings (Audio, Video and Gameplay)
  • Steam Achievements (a good surprise is, that some are retroactively saved already ːheimerː )

And, the two updates we made this week too. Keep on sending reports with F11, and if the bug is sorta persistent, don't hesitate to mail us the save files (check the Discussions forum to see how and where. We can fix most of the save files to make sure you don't lose any progress!

0.849.00.5

  • Fixed bug on duplicated governor hiring attempts
  • Fixed several typos reported by users
  • Fixed a bug that allowed on a very quick (<0.5sec) click on the screen UI after the fist dialog to block the progress of the campaign and dialog
  • Fixed an issue with 4k bug reports not uploading neither screenshot nor logs

0.849.00.6

  • Fixed a bug on Tower UI elements
  • Fixed a bug on too many attack/scouting actions
  • Slightly increased Brute health
  • Added quarantine and more debugging options to the F11 report in case of Chapter-related bugs

Cheers and see you guys soon!

Governors - Of men and beasts

Empires in Ruins is set in a very very corrupted world. And even more, it's set in one of the most corrupted kingdoms in this world. If that was not enough, we picked one of the most degenerated and corrupted areas of that kingdom to set the campaign.

That said, your Officers couldn't be a well groomed handful of choir boys. They are an unreliable bunch at best, that you need to keep tamed with bribery, investigations and trips to the gallow. Here's some more details about how their mechanics work in game.

  • Each governor has a Loyalty value that goes from 0 to 5 stars (and translates into a % value)
  • Each governor has a Rank (that currently is not gonna change, but during the Officers update will allow them to grow in experience during the campaign). Based on the rank they do have better or worse skills, loyalty and more or less feats.
  • The first time you meet a governor, a check is made automatically, based on your Empathy and Leadership, to determine if the loyalty is know or not
  • If loyalty is not known yet, you can investigate an officer. Investigations use your Empathy and Leadership values to determine the success chance. In case of a province governor, also the province espionage is used.
  • If investigations fail, they will further lower the governor loyalty and you will still not know the value
  • You can bribe a governor to temporarily increase his loyalty
  • The relations with the officer faction do influence the officer loyalty
  • If you succeed in hanging (he might still escape) an officer, his faction relations will lower, but the loyalty of all the other officers will improve for a while (fear helps a lot)
  • As of now, loyalty mostly matters for Governor and not for Battle Board officers
  • A disloyal officer will secretly steal money from the province he governs, and will secretly increase the rebellion in the province
  • An officer will obey his orders about the building queue based on his loyalty. A disloyal officer will often build nothing or build the wrong things
  • A disloyal officer can betray you, cause a riot in the province and run with the money
  • When you conquer a province, there's a chance that the province governor decided to join (based on your Empathy and Leadership). These governors will always belong to the Folks (Rebels) faction.
  • Your Officers Board only provides bonuses in battle. It will influence the basic stats for towers (Damage, Range, Firerate and Morale), and based on the Officers feats, it will also add a variety of modifiers.

Additionally here's how Leadership does influence the maximum rank and maximum number of officers that you can hire.

Maximum rank available:

  • Hire officers of Rank 0 >> Leadership>0%
  • Hire officers of Rank 1 >> Leadership>30%
  • Hire officers of Rank 2 >> Leadership>50%

Maximum number of hired officers:

  • 0-15 >> 3 Officers
  • 16-25 >> 7 Officers
  • 26-45 >> 12 Officers
  • 46-60 >> 20 Officers
  • 61-75 >> 25 Officers
  • 76-100 >> 30 Officers

Hopefully this will give you a few more insights about your officers and how to use them!
Cheers,
Dr.H, Lead Dev

0.0849.00.5 More fixes and where to send your saves

a few more fixes and one message for your guys!

If you do have some mean-looking bug and it seems persistent (they are not many luckily), you can send us the save file at info@hammerandravens.com.

the save files are in the C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\H_R\Empires in Ruins\ folder (AppData it's a hidden folder, so in case you need to make the hidden folder visible) and they are named s1_h.eir, s2_h.eir and s3_h.eir based on the slot used (1,2 or 3).

With the save files we can debug issues super fast, and 99% of the time we can restore your save file without having it losing your progress in the campaign or sandbox.

Early Access - Week 1 - Alive!

What a week to be alive guys! We finally released Empires in Ruins, and overall we're stoked by the positive feedback. Sure, a lot of you want first to see how the game will evolve and go through early access, and that's fair enough.

In the years far too many project got in early access and never left, with the devs disappearing in the night. We're not like that, and we're gonna report weekly to prove it!

It's incredible the amount of bugs that can appear the moment you enlarge the testing group. You guys are being amazing with sending reports and being patient with the bugs you're finding. We're doing out best to fix them all.
As a general rule, most of the bugs right now are "temporary". It means that if you exit the game, when you reload, the bug's usually not there any longer. That is for the 99% of them at least.
I also added a backup save at the end of each chapter, this way, if anything weird happens, i can show you how to easily restore the save in place and you don't lose too much progress. (nothing that serious happened until now, but better safe than sorry!)
On we go, now off to sleep too! Tomorrow weekly recap!

Cheers,
Dr.H
