Our Major Summer Update Is Here: New Character, New Setting, New Abilities
To start off our major Summer update, we are introducing an all-new character: Doctor Mallory!
After the Queen of the Monarch (and Sherring Ford's nemesis) perished at Meiringen Falls as depicted in our manga, ESPIONAGE ZERO: Chapter Two (which is available to read now, FREE!), all that was left behind was foreboding. As the first of our Legacy Characters, in which those who have had a profound effect on the game's timeline can return as playable characters with special lore reveals in tow, Dr. Mallory will be unlockable starting on Monday!
Mallory's Special Abilities
1️⃣ Prime Variable Publicly assigns an extra vote to the target in the upcoming Voting Phase while also allowing the user to cast a normal vote. This can serve as a nomination if at least one other player is nominated; if not, this effect is canceled.
2️⃣ Relative Symmetry Forces two targets to exchange their Special Ability sets with one another. Does not refresh Special Ability usages for either target and cannot include a target already removed from play.

New Special Ability Reworks!
As part of this update, many abilities are being completely reworked:
✨Dreams of Winter: Establish one-sided Trust with a target that can see the user's Intel but not vice versa. If full Trust is reached later, the user's Current AP is refilled once per match.
✨Mircalla: Transfers all AP used by a secret target of her choice to her, until the end of her second turn after activation.
✨Group Therapy: At the cost of 45 from his AP Limit, reduce the Suspicion of two targets by the amount of Trust he has with each target.
✨Jury Duty: Choose a target who, during their next turn, must use a doubled Suspicion or Trust action on a target of their choice. This action cannot be debated or interrupted.
✨Survival Bias: Choose a secret target. All Suspicion gains for the rest of the round that affect the user will be switched to the target at the end of the round. This ability appears as a Recuse during the turn it is used and does not apply to actions initiated by the target.
✨Collective Amnesia: Reset all Suspicion, including his own, to 0 until the start of the next round. At that point, all previous Suspicion values are re-added on top of the existing totals.
✨Hypnotherapy: Allows him to re-use a Special Ability already used by another player (except Persuasion) at the cost of 45 from his AP Limit. [Survival Bias may now be used with Hypnotherapy and its cost was increased from [b]30 :greenarrow: 45]

March Event Starts Now: Determine the next FREE Master Costume!
🛍️ The "March Master Costume Event" Starts Now!
The next Master Costume—available free to anyone who has a character at Level 50—will be for one of these four characters who has the most wins in the month of March:
With these two independent modifiers, players in a match only have access to a character's 1st Special Ability or 2nd Special Ability. This should allow you to revisit the original abilities within the game while also trying something entirely new with the latter being your only options.
⭐ Victra's 1st Special Ability "Reanimation" rebalance:
Previously, Reanimation required -60 AP to borrow a special and then another -60 AP to use the borrowed special. Now, Reanimation borrows a special for -60 AP and the borrowed special can be used for -0 AP. Penalties to AP Limit will still take effect if specified by the borrowed Special Ability.
🛠️ Various fixes and adjustments have been made, including:
A bug that caused Rechelle and Rebecca expressions to appear at the wrong times has been fixed.
The Victra achievement Postmodern should now unlock properly.
Many Special Ability achievements have been re-checked and adjusted to ensure they will unlock when conditions are met.
A bug that allowed players to use True Conviction :sherringyesyes: twice in a row and retain its effects indefinitely has been fixed.
Minor text error on Milla's achievement Transfusion has been fixed.
Challenges related to gaining levels has been fixed.
Challenges related to playing human matches have been fixed.
A challenge asking players to receive no votes during a voting phase will no longer appear; this will be replaced in the near future.

Victra Special Abilities
1️⃣ Reanimation Borrow a Special Ability from a target already removed from play in order to use it on a future turn.
2️⃣ Signal Disruption Cancel an ongoing proposition to debate with no changes made to Trust or Suspicion.

New Balance Updates and AI Adjustments!
🤖 A new AI update is now live! We have been working hard to address feedback related to AI Players. We believe the experience should now offer a much better experience! Please post any feedback on our Discord server!
✨Ruiko's first Special Ability Divine Instinct has been updated! This ability no longer has an AP Limit penalty, and its general function has changed. Instead of canceling a player's turn, it now works as such: Delay a target's next turn to the end of the following Round.

December 12, 2023 — Various Bugfixes and Issues Resolved
The following updates are now live and should greatly improve the player experience:
Fixes for a crash related to launching the game in Portuguese, Spanish (Latino), Spanish (EU), or Vietnamese.
An issue preventing login and account creation has been fixed.
The Civilian ability Dying Message has been fixed and should now show feedback upon being selected.
A bug that prevented AP from being hidden while setting Show AP was enabled, and thus would reveal the Supporter if Protect was used successfully, has been fixed.
Uses of Moran's Special Ability Sharpshooter in TEAM ESPIONAGE should now behave as intended.
A bug preventing the Informant from being able to use both Impair and Execute within the same match has been fixed.
You can again set player counts to lower than 8 while ESPIONAGE is set as the mode. TEAM ESPIONAGE still requires 8 players.
A bug with Collective Amnesia has been resolved. In rare situations, this ability would not properly deduct the AP cost.
More visual feedback is now available as you use Dying Message.
A bug that, in some very rare situations, caused the Informant to wrongly lose access to Execute when the Spy used Eliminate has been fixed. To clarify, Execute is only considered used if it is successful.
A bug related to dialogue has been fixed in which text would not properly match between the targets, debater, and proposer.
The Fast Forward ⏩ function now prevents the AI from performing otherwise disallowed actions (such as recusing once targeted by Persuasion). A related bug in which the AI would sometimes recuse in a similar situation outside of Fast Forward was also fixed.
A target of Execute should now be ineligible to be dragged and dropped, and also cannot be added to the Notebook.
Upon disconnecting, a teammate could create an unintended animation and UI placement error. This has been fixed. Missing sound effects related to disconnections should be fixed as well.
Various backend problems have been resolved.
Some AI updates have been made. Further updates are coming over the next few days.
Your equipped costumes will now be shown on the CHARACTERS submenu. Additionally, a bug that showed the default costumes upon choosing a character has been resolved: your equipped costumes will now always show as intended in that situation.
Mode Selection is now available on additional menus used for creating and adjusting lobbies.
Various UI adjustments have been made, including in the EXPLORE menu options, the PLAY header on the main menu, character and costume name design changes on profiles and within the shop, and many more.
In TEAM ESPIONAGE, when involved in a debate with your partner, the UI related to Suspicion now shows — to indicate no change will take place for that element.
An Eliminate animation bug during Protect has been resolved.
A display bug that could happen during a Tiebreaker has been fixed.

🌟This all-new mode has a completely revamped user interface, and in this mode, players will be paired into teams of two in which any roles can be together—including the Spy and Detective. Whether your teammate is really an ally will be for you to decide... 🌟Explore this mode's all-new stage Mannequin Village and enjoy two all-new musical suites unique to it. 🌟With the new mode comes a New Tutorial Story: Get a first glimpse at an all-new character whose influence on the game has long been felt but only now is being revealed...
New role abilities are being added to both modes!
The Informant has become deadlier—
🩹 [Impair]:Once per match, select any target including yourself to Impair for the upcoming round. This target loses -40 from their AP Limit for the round and is announced to everyone. 🗡️ [Execute]:Remove any non-Spy player from the match if the Spy does not use Eliminate this round (if so, Execute is canceled). Once used successfully, Execute is no longer available for the rest of the match and you lose -60 from your AP Limit.
Civilians can now put their Intel to extra use—
💬 [Dying Message]:Choose a target and a role you suspect for them. This will be shared with any players you have 100% Trust with should you be Eliminated or Executed this round.
The Supporter is bringing some extra support—
🛡️ [Protect]:Once per match, attempt to Protect a target from being Eliminated or Executed at the cost of 60 from your AP Limit if successful. When successful, your identity is announced to the user of Eliminate or Execute.

August 12, 2023 — New Seward Costume, Balance Updates & New Mode Playtesting
ESPIONAGE: Mafia Evolved is celebrating Year One of many today! Thank you to everyone for playing so far! Today, we have a much-requested new costume plus some news about what's coming up next.
1️⃣ New Costume Added: 🌟 SUMMERTIDE SEWARD Months before the first round begins, Seward's life is upended on an otherwise idyllic summer day...
2️⃣ Balance Updates have been made to Sherring's Special Abilities! 🌟 Deductive Reasoning: Allows for a public suggestion of the role another player may be playing in the match. If announced as Team Detective, the target has 25 added to their AP Limit. If announced as Team Spy, the target has their AP Limit reduced by 25.
🌟 True Conviction: Raises your Current and Max AP to 200 until your next turn, but that next turn is canceled and all AP values then return to normal. As your next turn begins, you lose 40 from your AP Limit.
3️⃣ Role Abilities for All Roles & Special Stats Gallery! 🌟 Next, the:supporterrole: Supporter, :informantrole: Informant and :civilianrole: Civilians will all be receiving Action Phase abilities during the next major update. Along with this, a preview of the Voiceover Add-On Pack will also be coming your way within the next month.
🌟 To commemorate ESPIONAGE: Year One, we have gathered play stats from the first year of matches and will be adding these to a special gallery within the game in an upcoming update. This gallery will remain in the game forever so check it out for some cool play data (and maybe see your username mentioned!)

4️⃣ A new mode is coming, and Playtest sign-ups are open NOW! 🌟 The TEAM ESPIONAGE playtest will begin on September 2, 2023 3:00 PM. This time has already been converted to your timezone! This all-new mode has a completely revamped user interface, and in this mode, players will be paired into teams of two in which any roles can be together—including the Spy and Detective. 2nd Special Abilities Now Live For All Characters!
In addition to their original abilities, all characters now have the option to use an all-new Special Ability! In each match, it's up to you to decide which of your abilities to use — but choose wisely! This update also features the first of our major UI updates, with new art and additions throughout the game. Additionally, various AI improvements have been made as well.
DORIAN:
Hypnotherapy
Decrease own AP Limit by 30 to re-use a Special Ability already used by another player with the exception of Persuasion.
RUIKO:
Survival Bias
Decrease own AP Limit by 30 to disable a secret target’s Action Phase abilities leading into the next round.
SEWARD:
Persuasion
Decrease own AP Limit by 40 to force a target to use or re-use a Special Ability during their next turn at the cost of all of their Current AP, without counting as their normal usage of a Special Ability.
AERIE:
Finishing Touch
Choose a target who is awarded a bonus turn at the end of the current round. Bonus turns are exempt from being canceled by any other effect.
RAFFLES:
Stolen Agenda
At the cost of 40 from your AP Limit, choose a target whose current Trust with you is swapped with the target’s current Suspicion.
MORAN:
Sharpshooter
Set own Suspicion to 50% and a target’s Suspicion to 50%, while clearing the Suspicion of all other players.
RECHELLE:
Forged Will
(Rechelle) Choose a player as a secret target. This target’s next Suspicion or Trust action in the match will be reversed without an announcement to other players.
MILLA:
Wounded Heart
(Milla) At the cost of 40 from your AP Limit, choose two targets whose Suspicion will be swapped with the other.
NEMESIS:
Jury Duty
For a target’s next turn, any action that increases or decreases Trust and Suspicion will be doubled, including all Special Abilities with the exception of Group Therapy.
SHERRING:
True Conviction
Raises your Current and Max AP to 200 until your next turn, but that next turn is canceled and all AP values then return to normal.

Thirteen new achievements are now available to earn. Additionally, all-new entries will soon populate your Weekly and Daily Challenges that will help unlock characters and special costumes.
All-New Costumes & Story Revelations
Refined Dorian, with an entirely new set of dialogue reflecting his pre-accident state, and Master Moran, available FREE to all Level 50 Moran players, are available TODAY!
New Dialogue & Music
Various new dialogue lines can now be seen within the game, along with a revised dialogue system that will result in more speaking between characters as debates resolve. Additionally, a new music track, ***`Divine Instinct - Alternate Version (Ruiko's Theme)`*** can be heard within the game and also added to the Special Edition OST as well.

2nd Special Abilities: ALSO Coming This Month!
Every character gains a new Special Ability beginning with **a 2nd update** in the month of May! By the end of the month, everything changes when every character will now have the option of using their original Special Ability or an all-new one.
As the season continues, expect 3 New Characters, 3 New Modes, 3 New Manga Chapters, Many New Costumes, New Settings, Our Voice Pack Add-On, and much more!

February 18, 2023 — Double XP Week Begins!
The very first DOUBLE XP event is live NOW onESPIONAGE: Mafia Evolvedthrough the end of February 24!
1️⃣ Double XP Week! 🌟 Every XP value, both for your Player XP and Character XP, will be doubled for the entire week! But, that's not all: completing Daily and Weekly Challenge sets will also result in a bonus as well!
2️⃣ New Music Added In-Game and to the Special Edition OST! 🌟 A brand-new, previously-unheard song has been added to the in-game playlist: Curing Bell - Alternate Version (Aerie's Theme). This is a complete redux of the original track that we think everyone will enjoy! All players can hear this song in-game, while those who own the Special Edition can access the MP3 and lossless versions now as well.

3️⃣ Master Costume Reminder! 🌟 If you want to make the most of this event, be sure to reach Character Level 50 with Moran . . . After all, Master Moran is the first Master costume and will be unlocked for everyone who has reached Level 50 with the character (or does afterward) starting with the launch of Season 2—which will also be the day AI comes to the game.
Of course, all characters will receive Master costumes in the future as part of upcoming updates. If you need to get others to Level 50, now is a good time!
4️⃣ Multi-Featured Discord Bot This Weekend! 🌟 A custom bot developed to link your in-game activity to Discord will be available starting this weekend. This fully-featured bot that includes all of the bot-features that have been requested since playtesting, as well as being able to generate an image of your profile at your request and a summary of your last match, is nearing its debut.
The January update for ESPIONAGE: Mafia Evolvedis now live!
1️⃣ New Costume Added: 🌟 GRADUATE RUIKO This is the first costume that launches with three total colors! All future costumes will launch with just as many, if not more.
2️⃣ New Costume Color Added: 🌟 RETIRED SHERRING (Alternative Version) This is only the first of many new alternate colors for existing costumes. This costume can only be unlocked by completing in-game challenges and thus acquiring gameplay currency.
3️⃣ Visual Fixes: 🌟 A few visual bugs previously reported have been resolved, including a Player List display error in which avatars were not being shown in the correct aspect ratio. An issue within the shop that would result in a scrolling issue with text boxes has also been fixed. Some rarer bugs that made certain functions within the lobby inaccessible have been fixed, along with a bug that caused some chat issues.
4️⃣ We are now accepting sign-ups for AI Playtesting: 🌟 ESPIONAGE: Mafia Evolved will soon have full AI player support: play alone, play with a full lobby of humans, or play with a combination of AI and humans. If a human player ever disconnects, don't worry—AI Takeover means an AI who has all information from that player's perspective will take their place until they return.
🌟 2023 Major Update #1— The very next major update will be the start of Season 2, which will include not just full AI support but also the very first Master Costume! This costume will be for one of the original eight characters, with others to steadily follow in further updates. If you have this character to Level 50 already, you will have it unlocked for free immediately upon loading the game after the launch of Season 2. If you haven't reached Level 50 with this character by then, don't worry: anyone who reaches Level 50 with a character, at any time, will always receive their Master Costume free once it is made available within the game.
Beyond this, we have much more including 2nd Special Abilities for all characters and Action Phase abilities for all roles.
