Fairspace update December 2018

Hi,

This is the final pivot from server to single player, The server is now turned off and everything should work fine locally with your account information being in the Steam cloud.

Fairspace Update June 2018

As stated in February Fairspace will pivot away from the MMO server. With this update user accounts are being relocated to steam cloud storage.
This removes the need for a login process every time you want to play.

For existing players who wish to retrieve their previous characters rather than stating from fresh can simply click the Import button and enter the credentials, This will download the character into the steam cloud. With such a large update there may be unforeseen issues introduced, So please post in the forums if you have any issues.

The account server will continue to function up to Christmas 2018. This gives players 6 months to retrieve their characters.

Fairspace Update Nov 2016

I have noticed players getting stuck on planet London, with not having a good enough heat shield to get away and out of the influence of the suns corona, So I have added a tow service that will take you to the nearest planet outside of the danger zone. It is going to cost you 10% of your credits though.

General network connection diagnostics have been improved, Please report any spurious network messages you may receive, the error codes are particularly important and will help me isolate any problems you may be having.

The previous update for shooting net code has been refined, I would really like to know of any issues either playing locally or on the MMO server.

Fairspace Update July 2016


Panning left and right in your ship has been added, to that end movement controls have been overhauled, If you have played before and have an existing keyboard configuration, I Recommend clicking the Controls Reset button on the configuration menu ( normally F9).
WSAD have been allocated to the basic movement of forwards and backwards left and right and the cam keys have been moved to the Numeric keypad.
As part of the keyboard update the 'F' key for free look has been changed into a toggle and alternates between free look and the default 3rd person view.
Q key is now the default for nearest enemy target. This is positioned nicely next to movement controls.

Sound effects have been revisited, Explosions, hyper jumping and interface have been updated.

Ship Thrusters have been changed again, Is it an improvement ?

A bug on reading user environment variables has been fixed, this would cause the game to crash on its very first run but then work from then on.

Star field effect has been updated to give a better feel of movement at slower speeds.

Interface/Hud has been switched from flat to 3D, For those that do not like this and would prefer to leave it flat there is slider control on the configuration screen to change it back.

Shooting Netcode has been updated, I realised the bullets were slightly off and appeared to be a frame or so behind the action, This has been corrected and now looks more solid.

Fairspace Update 6th October 2015


A new fighter based heat shield providing enough protection to leave dock locations within the sun's outer corona but not enough to engage with serious miners. This will help ships that have previously gotten stuck at certain locations in the universe.

Fixed interpolation during engine break mode / doesnt appear jumpy anymore.

Enhancements to the mini adventure.

Audited the package file and found several textures not included, Fixed.

ReWrote the thruster's effect happy with it now, Definately the last time.

Revisited equipment text and corrected several spelling issues.

I plan to leave early access this month and see what happends.

11 September small update.

Hi,
The Achievements have been scaled back, Quite drastically in some areas. Some were too difficult and would take an unreasonable amount of time to accomplish. I expect All achievements to now be obtainable within 10 hours of game play.

I have also fixed the party rendering location on screen.

Fairspace Update 08 September 2015

Steam DRM removed as I was getting false positives that were not going away. I hope removing the DRM solves the problem.
Rewrite of the engine graphics during flight.
Optimisation of some shader / some cards don't like loop counters.
Alter earth type planets and improve the colouring.
Some button positions moved around.
Reduce scale effect on warp drives.

The game will only now go through small changes as I prepare for leaving early access. The store page will soon reflect a refocusing of the game on a sandbox single player experience. This will not effect the existence of the MMO and will continue to function as is. I don't feel comfortable pushing it as an MMO when the player base is so small.

Fairspace Update 05 Aug 2015

This update concentrates mostly of graphic updates in an attempt to improve the look and feel of Fairspace prior to leaving early access.

Rewrote the shader for the star field and at warp effect.
Rewrote and redesigned the method for earth type planets including the shader and textures.
Rewrote the rock planet based shader and improved the visuals greatly.
Rewrote plasma based planet with atmospheric explosions taking place.
Fix bug on scanner range showing info before scanned.
Fixed the target selector graphic.
Improved the look of the Waypoints, Easier to read.
Small fixes to the adventure system.


There are a few more changes I plan to make before going live but the game is effectively finished.

**Due to the large number of shader changes there may be one or two issues with certain graphics drivers not compiling the shader correctly. In these instances please follow the instructions for sending me the qbootlog.txt file in the forums and I will get them repaired pdq.

Fairspace Update 7th July.

Hi, A Small Update finishing a few things off.

Target icon on map has been updated, Easier to see and now pulses.
Players now default to single player mode when first starting to play.
Fix on achievements, the 5 that were changed from killing live players.
Help System added for new players, I hope it helps.
Adventure system now launched, the Purpose of this is to give the players a grounding in how to play the game and its various mechanics rather than as a full blown story. This can be expanded upon if popular.

I think im going to exit from early access shortly.

Fairspace Update 22nd June 2015

Game Rebalance



Allocations of equipment and ships to the different races have been refined, Fewer ships are now available at fewer locations. The Database option helps players location where these ships can be purchased.
The difference between Lvl1 and Lvl99 used to be a factor of 36, This is now more like 3.6. the net effect is:-

  • Combat with higher levels is now easier, a group of level 1's can defeat a level 10.
  • Cargo sizes have been greatly reduced in size.
  • Missile targeting and damage has been updated.
  • Torps should now be necessary for destroying caps and stations.
  • AI to AI fights no longer spawn loot



Other Changes



  • All prices and some ship properties have been amended.
  • Some Space station graphics have been removed, Only the good ones are left, Space stations are now reallocated based on race.
  • AI system has been redone to try and stop them crashing into planets.
  • More of the adventure system released with special equipment being available via a kind of crafting system, Supply characters with several pieces of equipment and they will give you advanced weapons that are not available to be purchased at any planet. These characters need to be discoverd arround the univers.
  • Some questes now allow direct map targeting without having to remember the locations name and search for it.
  • Some repair charge bugs fixed.
  • Job rewards increased.
  • Another small change to the soundfx for weapons.
  • Change to the specular lighting calcs.


Some players may get an error that some cargo has been lost if they left a ship in dock with a full cargo during this update, This is due to the reduction is cargo sizes across all ships, This will only happen this once. I don't imagine any more significant balance changes going forwards.
