Farewell North

Demo Updates, Photo Mode Competition & PAX East!

Hey everyone 👋

I'm really excited to share that Farewell North is going to be at PAX East at booth 15086 with Shumi Come Home, Haven Park and Lost Ember, and to celebrate we've just published a whole bunch of improvements to the Steam demo. This is a much more polished version that takes into account months of feedback from all of you!

I'm still hard at work on the rest of the game beyond the demo, but I'd love to get your feedback on the updated version in the meantime, it really helps! We're also holding a photo mode competition over on Discord where you can win Discord roles and a Steam gift card by submitting your best in-game shots using the Photo Mode feature before the end of PAX on Sunday, March 26.

So check out the demo, take some photos and let me know what you think of the updates!

New demo for Gamescom, new trailer and publisher

Hey everyone!

There's a bunch of news for you!

First of all, Farewell North has a brand new trailer, hope you like it:

And apart from that, Farewell North is now part of the Mooneye Indies family! This is actually one of the mooneyes talking, hey, nice to meet you, I'm Sinikka! :) We jumped on board to help Kyle bring his game over the finishing line and take a bit of work off his shoulders so he can concentrate on improving and finishing the game!
You may know us from our previous games Lost Ember (which we also developed) and Haven Park (the first game under the new Mooneye Indies label) and we are now over the moon to have gained Kyle's trust in working together with us in making this gorgeous game the very best it can be :)

Also, there'll be a new demo playable in time for Gamescom in late August and we would love for you to come visit us in the Indie Arena Booth to play the demo or have a nice chat with us or Kyle who will be there as well!

And lastly, both Kyle and us just wanted to say thank you so much for your continued support! We appreciate you so much! <3

Your Moonies and Kyle

Canoe and Accessibility Update!

In this devlog you'll see how community feedback is being directly incorporated into the canoeing mechanic, making for a much more polished experience, and new accessibility options to help you enjoy Farewell North the way you'd like to experience it.

On the canoe side, the animations have been greatly improved, though they're still not quite final. The colouring mechanic, where optimally timed paddle strokes bring colour rushing temporarily out of the canoe and increasing movement speed, has been overhauled to be much more visually interesting.

New accessibility options have been added, including the ability to disable all visual aids for those who want a more explorative experience, and the ability to disable the canoe paddle timing requirement for those with motor impairments or who just prefer a more relaxed canoe gameplay.

A new way to move color through the world!

What a month! There's been so much progress on the game, it's hard to condense it down to a 10 minute devlog. First, I've been thinking a lot about the game mechanics and how they fit into puzzle gameplay. I realized that the demo (by the way, you can sign up to be a beta tester over on Discord!) doesn't currently have enough variety and movement in the gameplay, so I've introduced a new mechanic and a few new puzzle pieces to help mix it up.

I also started implementing Photo Mode into the game over on Twitch! It's been a fun project to work on each stream, and something that I think is going to be a nice little bonus feature for the game.

Finally, I've been reworking the jump mechanic and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new system!

Improved Graphics, Perspective Puzzles and New Creepy Stuff!

In the sixteenth (!) Farewell North devlog, we'll look at some big improvements to the game that have come out of the alpha playtests.

Perspective puzzles have been massively improved to ensure they're understandable for new players, without going so far as to hold the players hand. They should be much more intuitive now, and some playtest footage shows we're on the right track here.

The graphics of the uncoloured world have been significantly improved to ensure texture and shadow detail is still able to come through, and the results are quite substantial.

See for yourself, and let me know what you think!
