BLOG #7 Expedition and military squad

Hi guys!

It’s time to tell you more about the expedition that braves the world of WASP-21.

The expedition started from Earth in 2301 and reached its target, the Wasp-21 “Ariadne” system, in two years.

The expedition personnel consists of 4200 members. The fleet has 3 main expeditionary cruisers (each carries a few transports and 3 combat spacecraft units), 3 corvettes, and the commander’s ship.

Fleet Commander: Ingvar Loddon, Cavalier of the Black and Red Star.
Chief Engineer responsible for base deployment: Max Hoe.
Chief of Scientific Department and SLF Department: Eve Sil Eddin, plenipotentiary representative of the Association.
Military Special Squad Commander: Lodge Moore.

Goal: to deploy the base and the extraction systems, to construct the teleport, to organize delivery of cyrium to the Earth.

The expedition's structure

  • The space fleet: pilots, officers, ship mechanics, the logistics service, special military squad
  • The scientific department, the Search for Life Forms department
  • The engineering department (deployment, the teleport)
  • The colonists: cyrium miners, food/supporting production employees and base technicians, the requirements department (health professionals, educators, security guards, etc.)

Each of the main cruisers can found one base with a network of extraction stations, and also several outposts as required.
The first cruiser carries the teleportation equipment, which is intended to be used for sending the extracted gas to the Earth. Thus, the first base becomes the central one.

Special military squad

The special squad includes 80 military specialists and a separate staff of technicians and health professionals. All the fighters have real combat experience, including the Black and Red operation participants (suppression of a riot at several stations of the Solar System in 2288) and the “Cursed Jinan”.
The squad’s goal is to ensure safety of the expedition. The squad has instructions in case of an emergency situation, ship breakdown, riot, clashes with aggressive fauna, and also very general and nebulous instructions in case of encounter with an alien life form.

The manning chart supposes the division of the squad into 10 platoons, which include both stormtroopers and specialists in individual areas. Specialization of individual platoons is envisaged. At the same time, each platoon can perform any tasks in hand due to their vast experience, training, and equipment of the fighters.

For now we’re keeping next week’s topic a secret, but we promise that you won’t be dissappointed :)

In the meantime, you’re always welcome to hang out on our Discord server and chat with the dev team!

BLOG #6 Planets of WASP-21

Hey guys!

This week we’re diving deep into the heart of WASP-21 and will be taking a closer look at the planets where the game takes place.

Only three planets in the system have an atmosphere. This might be a consequence of terraforming done by the Ancients.

Wasp-21-b Uno

A terrestrial-type planet with an abundance of oceans (70% of the surface), and also a tropical climate. No cyrium reserves have been found, this creates difficulties as the planet is most convenient for the main base, but the base will have nothing to extract. Rotation lasts 18 hours.
Abundant flora and fauna. Supposed to be the insectoids’ native land. It remains a question how they ended up on another planet. There is a theory of artificial interference. After the contact with them, the SLF department worked on a theory of the Ancients’ civilization using the insectoids for some purposes but more data is required for research.

Wasp-21-с Bulo

A planet with a rarefied atmosphere, nevertheless it is easy to colonize. Humans can live on it without specialized costumes, only with a breathing mask. Several cyrium deposits have been explored. Rotation lasts 28.2 hours.

The planet has some life forms, including insectoids.

Wasp-21-d Erza

A planet with a large mountainous “continent”, which occupies 60% of the territory. Scanning has demonstrated the presence of large cyrium reserves. The first clash with the Ancients takes place here. Rotation lasts 35.5 hours.

Uninhabitable objects

Wasp-21-a is a small rocky incandescent planet unfit to live on.

The asteroidal belt: theoretically there can be cyrium reserves, additional exploration is required.

Wasp-21-e is a small cold planet without an atmosphere. This planet will play a role in the storyline at some point, but we’re not revealing it just yet ;)

Next week we’ll be talking about the expedition to Wasp-21. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to check out our Discord server and ask us any questions that you might have, we’re reading every single comment!

BLOG #5 THE INSECTOIDS

Welcome back, explorers of WASP-21!

This week we’re taking a closer look at insectoids, one of the most deadly enemy species in the FARHOME universe. We’ll be looking into the origins and habitat of these creatures and we’re also sharing some concept art. Let’s jump right in!

FIRST CONTACT

The complex and multiform species of insectoids has been discovered on 2 planets of the system (Uno and Bulo). The SLF department supposes that the Wasp-21-b Uno planet is the insectoids’ native land (it is a mistake, this species comes from Allai, the Ancients’ native system).

SPECIES ORIGIN

The species had supposedly been artificially modified by the Ancients and used by them in the construction as workers for digging tunnels when extracting cyrium, and also for other tasks.

The question of how the insectoids are controlled by the Ancients has not been answered. But it has been observed that the insectoids have their own instincts, and the Ancients do not have complete control over them, using them only to solve specific tasks, and then leaving the insectoid colony to develop or perish.

HABITAT

Each colony is grown from supplied eggs with the aid of biostations, which provide the necessary conditions for them to mature (temperature, nutritive medium) on any planet where the species can survive. After the first generation matures the colony can provide for its needs on its own.The colony includes several types of insectoids with a definite hierarchy and task sharing. This issue requires additional advanced exploration.

The SLF department has created an insectoid research section consisting of 3 employees.

The aggressive behavior of the individuals, and also the fact that the Ancients do not control and do not exterminate the colonies after using them (which disturbs the natural environment of the planet where the colonies have been landed), can pose a threat for the expedition and for further colonization.

The SLF department has introduced the term of “insectoid contamination”.

And that’s it, see you on the blog next week, where we will be taking an in-depth look at the planets in WASP-21!

BLOG #4 THE ANCIENTS

The Ancients’ artifacts first came into the Earthlings' view in 2297 when the second automated mission returned from the Ariadne system with collected samples. Having studied the artifacts, the Association classified all the samples of artificial origin as secret. The researches gave rise to teleport development.

The humans do not know practically anything about the Ancients.
According to the preliminary estimates made at the extraordinary meeting of the expedition, the Ancients' military power is a match for the humans’, but the expedition cannot carry on large-scale armed hostilities due to the enemy’s probable numerical superiority.

However, there is still no data available on the Ancients’ fleet. The first captured samples of battlesuits and dead bodies (after the mission when some artifacts were stolen) demonstrated a high life expectancy of the bodies and a long service life of the equipment: up to three hundred years. This is where the name of “The Ancients” spread from, first at the SLF department, and then among the entire expedition.

THE HISTORY

This is a biologic humanoid race that has undergone total cybernetization. In spite of the physiological differences, their society used to be similar to the humans’ one, with the same milestones in the history.

Self-appellation: Gishakheli

In the distant past, the Ancients encountered problems that were similar to those of the Earth, and solved them in a similar way. The bifurcation point became the creation of the Artificial Intelligence. The Gishakheli had more success in this area, creating the Absolute Cybernetic Intelligence. Soon after that, the race underwent total cybernetization to solve the issues of procurement and resource allocation. The Gishakheli’s bodies and minds became subordinated to a common schedule, which allowed for solving the economical problems.

Several hundreds of years have already passed since then: the progress for the Gishakheli has stopped. A single, though complex, cycle keeps repeating inside the Absolute Intelligence. The Ancients’ expeditions discover resources and extract them in different systems, sustaining the existence of their species. They cannot understand that they go round in circles, and the Absolute Intelligence, despite the seeming freedom and “creative element”, has turned out to be deprived of full life and of the real creative power.

The Gishakheli’s settlements are located in the central system of Allai, which is not known to the humans. During the Intelligence Era, the settlements were reduced to the function of creating new “extraction cells” (ships-processing plants). A few abandoned temples on the Ancients’ two historical planets remind of the bygone era.

IN THE ARIADNE SYSTEM

The Gishakheli have explored a significant quantity of resources in the galaxy and discovered several types of them that are not known to the humans, and also methods for energy extraction or production. In the Ariadne system there is a “standard extraction cell” consisting of five extraction ships, each of which is a flying plant, a complete automated complex for extraction and processing of several resource types. With the aid of a large teleport, the Ancients transfer energy capsules (a sort of “energy preserves”) to a network node, and from there they are distributed over the Gishakheli’s entire network to provide for the settlements’ equal needs.

BLOG #3

Hello friends!

We apologize for the silence. There was a little force majeure, but fortunately all is sorted out now. For reasons beyond our control, there had been a power outage at the office we rented.

We hastily relocated to a new office.

It is quite an adventure – starting from such simple things as kitchen and toilet, and ending with servers, Internet access and building communications throughout the office.
Not everything is working as it should, but pretty much everything is back on track.

So, what we are preparing in the next update:

  • a small correction that will balance different types of movement in the game
  • system of achievement accruing improved
  • saving of settings in the Steam Cloud added
  • a new system of movement in space added for those who do not like smooth movement

We continue working on the script – additional touches have been added to the story. 3 new missions are being prepared; work on maps and game mechanics prototypes has been launched.

We plan to release large updates quarterly. We will give you more details about what exactly will be included in them later.

In addition, we plan to pay more attention to training new players. To do this, we will make a system of interactive tips in weapons and slightly improve the training level. We want players to use the entire arsenal of weapons and special abilities of the characters.

In about 2-3 weeks, we plan to enter the following platforms – Oculus and Viveport.

Stay tuned!

UPDATE #1

Hi, friends!
We are happy to introduce the first update!

Its main feature is the ability to change controls:
- Locomotion Swap is added. Now you can swap Move and Turn for controllers.

- Move and Turn parameters can be fine tuned now.

We tried to take into account all your suggestions and not to ruin existing game mechanism as well. We plan to release a game guide on controls soon in which we’ll tell you about all the features.

Subtitles’ transparency and position adjustments are also available now.

We are waiting for your comments on our discord channel DISCORD and in community discussions.
