Ferret Scoundrels

Find a Home

Players now have an island to call their own. When a player reaches the current end of the main storyline they will unlock the ownership of an island. You will have the ability to build up and customize your island with lots of choices.

The Island is separated into plots. Each plot has several options of what you can build on it. Once you have built your new building you can continue to upgrade it increasing its beauty and usefulness.

Types of plots:

House: This is the plot you gain by default where you will build your captains house. Upgrading this plot gives you access to your other plots.
Cave: The cave is a great place to store some of your treasures.
Field: The field might be a great place to raise animals or grow food..
Dune: The dunes could be a great place to set up a business.
Beach: The beach would be a great place to set up some services.
Peninsula: The peninsula will give the player access to new mystical arts that will greatly increase their power in the game, however this feature will be coming in a later patch.

If you load an old save the game will automatically teleport you to your new island to get you started.

The main storyline is still a work in progress and expect to see more in coming patches.

Ancient Ghost Ships

This patch brings a new kind of enemy to fight. These ghost ships will appear at night and attack any ship they find. Unlike normal enemies the ghosts have new unique abilities that make even the best ship captain worried.

These ghosts will eventually be tied into the main story, but for now you can hunt them at night and enjoy their high value unstolen cargo.

Ghost Abilities:

Ghostly Shroud:

Ghost ships will cover themselves in a ghostly shroud that makes them invulnerable to cannon fire, but beware they can still fire on you.

Ghost Storm:

Ghost ships can cause a ghostly storm to spawn above their ship. The storm will charge up over time and then explode with a large burst of energy that will convert all ships nearby into ghost ships. If you're not careful the sea can quickly fill with ghost ships bent on your destruction. The player can attack the ghostly vessel while it's charging up, but if they are hit by the explosion their ship will be destroyed.

New Crafting System

In the recent Loot Overhaul Patch v 0.2.5, we added a way for some docks to be able to produce items by selling them for much needed supplies. We have revamped this feature by adding a whole new crafting UI which will allow you to easily craft items at producing docks. This system is built in such a way that we can use it for many different activities and can be added using the quest editor. Getting to know docks now has a large financial incentive.

To accompany this change we have completely overhauled the economy. Now more valuable items are far more rare than they used to be. Merchants will almost always give you a decent price for your goods and will sell items at a higher price. Producers will now always give you good prices for your items that they need for crafting, making you choose between crafting or making quick cash.

These changes aim to foster getting to know an area and establishing profitable trade routes, which is a major goal of ours while developing Ferret Scoundrels.

New Lands

Our new lands patch brings with it tons of new islands, dock types, and quests! We apologize for the long wait for this patch. This patch adds a lot of new content, and we had to move our office recently which had a large impact on our timeline. We are grateful to everyone who is keeping up with Ferret Scoundrels during this time and we appreciate your support.

New Islands

We have added many new islands including a new type of island we are calling continents. Continents are huge islands that hold many more docks than most islands and are a good place to get lots of trading and questing done.

New Docks

We have added several new types of docks you can explore and do business with.

Bootlegger:

Specializing in trading spirits, bootleggers will make more booze for you if you bring them certain ingredients.

Trapper:

Traders in exotic animals, Trappers sell all kinds of valuable and rare creatures. With the right tools, they can go out and trap new animals to replenish their collection.

Forger:

Need help washing stolen goods? These scoundrels can convert all of your stolen goods into legitimate cargo for a price. (Pirate merchant docks no longer have this functionality).

Treasure Hunters:

These adventurous ferrets explore ancient temples looking for exotic treasure and historical artifacts. They will require maps of the ancient ruins to avoid all the traps and pitfalls to lead you to the treasure.

Barber:

Want a clean shave or a new hairstyle? All hair and fur cosmetics are now sold at the barber. (Tailors no longer have this functionality).

Cartographer:

This dock has gained some new functionality allowing you to bring the map pieces we added in the last item patch which they will assemble into a map showing you to the treasure for a small fee.

Quests

With the addition of the quest editor in patch 0.2.0 and after all of the fine tuning that has gone into its development, we plan to add many new quests more consistently throughout development. We don't want to spoil the fun, but we have added a number of new quests in this patch and many more to come.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug around input tracking that was breaking the tutorial.
  • Fixed a bug that was not allowing players to turn in letter during the tutorial stalling out the quest line.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing ferrets to remain visible on the island after you construct the raft during the tutorial.
  • We removed the development "fast travel" functionality that had made its way into the live client
  • Updated boss ships to guarantee more items and better drops which was not working as intended.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing timers in quests to display incorrect times.
  • Made Zoning more consistent which got rid of errors for zoning because of storms.

Loot Overhaul

New items

Added over 70 new items to the game. Including several meat related food items for all you ferret lovers out there. These new items are all able to be traded and will be integrated into more quests and functionalities in the future.

We added a new classification of item which are Artifact items. Artifacts will generally be very valuable and rare items.

Treasure Maps

We added several treasure map items to the game. Many of these maps have different pieces. If you can find all of the pieces of a treasure map bring them to a cartographer who will reveal the treasures location for you.

Progression Overhaul

Along with more rare items we have reworked the level progression from the ground up. Now ships will increase in level the further you have traveled from the starting zone. Along with this new level progression more valuable loot will also drop in higher numbers in distant zones. This level increase will become more and more powerful as you travel so you will be forced to buy new ships or upgrade your current ship in order to explore the higher level zones.

Warning to all current players, your ship may end up under powered for the zone you are in depending on how far you have traveled.

Bosses

We added boss ships to the game. Bosses will spawn in each zone and will be higher level than most ships in that zone. They will also have a bonus to drop rarer loot.

Loot Balance

We balanced item drops to make more valuable items more rare then they currently are. The goal being to stratify the items across the whole game so you don't usually find the most valuable items in the game from the starter zone, however it is not impossible.

See-through Sails

We now have see through sails. This version of the see through sails is not perfect and we may go back and change it at a later date.

Miscellaneous

  • Rafts are no longer a common enemy in the game.
  • Fixed several quest bugs
  • Fixed Item production for Fruit Merchants
  • Added New items to production docks

Quest Editor

Added documentation to the quest editor. This documentation should hopefully help users better understand how the quest editor works. You can see this documentation on the web at
http://ferretscoundrels.com/EditorFAQ/
or in the editor itself by mousing over the nodes themselves.

Storms Overhaul

In this patch we overhauled the storm system completely. Storms originally would randomly spawn when you transitioned to another zone and would randomly teleport you away from your current zone. Now stormy weather can spawn on its own at any time. The longer you remain in a storm the higher the chance you will be blown off course and show up in a new zone will be increased. You can safely wait out storms by finding shelter near an island. Storms will now also apply wind forces to your boat making traversing the see quite difficult especially if you are traveling into the wind. Enjoy getting blown to far off islands and traversing intense storms.

In the future we plan on adding more content into storms that will make risking them worth it, stay tuned.

Additions

Ferret Scoundrels:

  • Storms no longer spawn when traversing to a new zone they can spawn at anytime
  • The longer you stay in a storm the higher your chance to be blown of course will be You can seek shelter from a storm by sailing near an island dock
  • Storms now have updated graphics
  • Storms will apply wind forces to your boat making sailing in the storm dangerous
  • Storms will now only blow you up to 3 zones away down from a max of 10

Quest Editor:

Added new Ferret Fur Patterns

In this update, we added 12 new fur patters for ferrets. All NPC's will now spawn using these new fur patterns adding lots of variety to the ferrets in the game. You can also unlock all of these fur patterns for your captain to customize your appearance.

Added New Tutorial

When we originally added our quest editor, we had to disable our original tutorial as it was incompatible with the new system. We have updated our Quest Editor with new nodes and functionality in order to re-create the tutorial. These new updates to the quest editor add lots of new functionality including camera moves, cosmetic customization and AI controls.

In order to play the new tutorial you will need to make a new game.
