Patch v0.2.0 Quest Editor and Holiday Update!

In this large update we took the very big step of completely rebuilding our questing system to allow for quests to be built by you the players. A large part of this process was building our own quest editor that allows you to build your quests. Through the quest editor, quests can be uploaded to our new steam workshop page. From the workshop page you can subscribe to new content created by the community and it will automatically be loaded into the game the next time you play. We will be releasing documentation on the quest editor over the coming weeks which can be seen here
https://ferretscoundrels.com/EditorFAQ/. The quest editor will become a tool on Steam that can be installed separate from the main game, but in the meantime you can launch the quest editor as an option when you run the game.

Since this update completely changes our current quest system old saved games will no longer work and you will need to start a new game. We are also going to disable the tutorial for the foreseeable future.

We re-added all of the existing quests back into the game using the quest editor and many of them have been updated with additional content. As this is technically new content please report any bugs you find so we can fix them promptly

Along with these new quests we have added a new item production system to producing docks. Producing docks like lumber mills will now be able to make more lumber if you bring them certain resources. This can allow players to build up effective trade routes and add more reward for discovering new islands.

We have also added some new Holiday cosmetics that will be unlockable via chests for the next week. So have a happy Holiday season on the seven seas.

Patch v0.1.1 A Brand New Art Direction

We are currently in the process of converting to a new artistic direction in Ferret Scoundrels. We do not want to stray too far from our original simplistic stylized look, but instead our aims are to add a little more visual diversity. You can see in the image below the new art style is still simplistic but has way more detail than our original art.

This is going to be an ongoing process as we update all of the art in the game. With this current patch we will just be updating the wooden houses as well as a few other wooden elements. This is still a work in progress however we feel very good about the direction the game is going in. Please feel free to give us feedback or let us know if you see any bugs in the new art features.

Your feedback is very much appreciated, please join the discussion on our discord at FerretScoundrels.com/discord

Patch v0.0.9 World Map

The following changes have been added in Patch v0.0.9

Added World:

You can now return to zones you have visited previously. When you travel to a new zone you will no longer always be swept up in a storm, you will simply travel to the next zone. You could then turn around and head back to the previous zone if you desired. Zones will keep their quests so you can return to a zone to complete a quest at any time.

World Map:

The map has been rebuilt and now has new functionalities. You can now look at a world map which will show you each zone you have traveled to. Each Zone will be depicted by a square. The zone you are currently in will be colored green and have the map ship symbol in it. You can click on a previously explored zone from the world map which will show you the local map of that Zone. Quest markers will only show in the map that you are currently in.

Storms:

When you leave a zone there is a small chance you will be swept up in a storm. The storm will blow you off course and leave you in a random zone. This zone can be far away from any previously explored zones.

Independence Day celebration has ended:

You can still equip any cosmetic items you unlocked during the Independence Day celebration.

This was a fairly large and complex patch, so there could be unforeseen bugs. If you run into any bugs, please do send us a message on our discord here or leave us a comment on this announcement. Thank you so much.

Decreased effect of waves on cannon firing.

This small change makes cannon shots far more accurate and predictable.

Added Faction Skill Tree:

By pressing the F key you can now see the new Faction Skill Tree. This menu will show players all of the potential abilities they can unlock by leveling up a specific faction. This is just the first implementation of the skill tree and changes will most likely be made in the future. In order to unlock a new skill you must travel to a faction representative and ask them about your faction perks. You can only change your skills from these NPC's however you can equip a skill to your ability bar at anytime. You can only have one ability active per tier for each faction. You will now no longer gain new flags and abilities by default when you level up your faction. If you lose a faction rank it will disable the ability, however the ability will still be selected and will re-enable when you regain your faction rank.

New HUD elements:

We have added several new HUD elements. To hide and unhide these new elements simply toggle the tab key.

Ability Bar: Along with the new skill tree comes a new ability bar. This bar will allow you to cast the various abilities you will gain throughout your journey. Effects Bar: Along with the new skills come effects. You character can gain both positive and negative effects from their new abilities.

Compass: While sailing you will now see a new compass element. The compass conveys several pieces of information. The compass will show you the direction you are heading by the cardinal directions ring. The Arrow in the center of the compass shows you the wind direction relative to your ship. The Wooden bar wrapped around the top of the compass displays the current hp of your ship.
