Save The World | v22.40 Homebase Status Report

Even though Hexslyvania is making its ghostly exit soon, the chills are just getting started with the return of the Winterfest Venture Season on November 20, 2022 at 7 PM ET!

As the Hexslyvania Venture season finishes, make sure you complete all your questing, including that in the Eye of the Brainstorm questline to unlock the newest hero Brainstorm and the Pulse Pounder and Shooting Star weapons. Also, complete your Alien Weapon set by grabbing the Plasmatic Discharger and Third Rail from the Event Store before November 20 at 7 PM ET.

Battle Pass XP Update

In the v22.40 update, we’ve added a new source of Battle Pass XP to Save the World! Specifically, the majority of Daily and Weekly Quests will now award Battle Pass XP upon completion. This includes the basic Daily and Weekly Quests, along with the following:

  • Wargames Dailies (and Weekly Challenges during Mild Meadows)
  • Frostnite Dailies and Weekly Challenges
  • Dungeon Dailies
  • Hit the Road Daily and Weekly Challenges
  • New Daily Endurance Quests

Because we've shifted the majority of the XP source to Quests, you’ll notice a reduced amount of XP earned from Mission Badges, but on average, we expect players will earn Battle Pass XP more quickly than before. To maximize your XP earned, prioritize completing the available Daily/Weekly quests.

The Winterfest Venture Season Makes its Return!

The Winterfest Venture Season starts November 20 at 7 PM ET!

The return of Winterfest also brings the return of the Super Heroic Modifier, which gives each class super heroic benefits furthering strengthening their style of play. This Modifier applies in the Flannel Falls Venture zone and does not apply in normal campaign zones or Frostnite.

Soldiers, this is the perfect modifier to enhance those headshots! The damage of headshots is doubled and you’ll benefit from reduced cooldowns when eliminating Husks with ranged weapons. Accuracy is key!

Constructors, the one downside of building is that it uses up your hard-earned materials, right? Well that problem is reduced with this modifier! Building will cost fewer materials, and on top of that, this modifier gives Kinetic Overload a lower cooldown and greater impact!

Ninjas, a healthy blend of Melee and Ability weaving will be key with this modifier. Focus your efforts on ability eliminations to gain increased melee damage and attack speed. Use this to your advantage, as melee eliminations also reduce your ability cooldowns. You’ll gain double the Shadowstance stats with this modifier, so get in their faces and show em’ who's boss.

Outlanders, it’s time for some punching, as Anti-Material charge will have no cost during this Ventures season. For all you T.E.D.D.Y. slingers out there, you’ll benefit from a free Fragment every 50 seconds along with increased ability damage.

And for everyone, the winter winds have increased the Husks’ resistance to trap and weapon damage, so get ready to build a squad that can hold its own!

Frostnite Challenges Return

Frosty Turf Challenge

Starting on November 28 at 7 PM ET, take on the Frosty Turf Frostnite Challenge! The weather will be extremely frigid for this week in Frostnite — don’t get cold feet as you think about the slower trap reloads and stepping on snow.

For overcoming the Frosty Turf Challenge, you’ll unlock Tank and a unique banner:

Survive the Bitter Cold in Frostnite

Beginning on November 20 at 7 PM ET, venture out and keep the Burner filled with scavenged BluGlo. If it runs out, things get real cold real quick. As the burner health decreases, the Storm Shield shrinks, so fill ‘er up!

The Krampus Smashers who dwell in these cold regions are dangerous but worth the fight. Why? They drop some much needed BluGlo. Check your Quest log for Frostnite rewards, such as the loading screen / music pack, and be on the lookout for Weekly Challenges in the coming weeks.

Holiday Llama

This Llama looks cold on the outside, but it is filled with festive Heroes and weapons that will warm up Homebase. The Holiday Llama returns on November 20 at 7 PM ET.

Subzero Zenith

“Let's put them on ice.” - Subzero Zenith

Subzero Zenith’s Standard Perk Icy Shot applies Water Affliction on Sniper critical hits. His Commander Perk Icy Shot+ allows you to freeze enemies for a short duration and apply Water Affliction on Sniper critcal hits. You can also decrease the duration of elemental status effects with his Team Perk Shake it Off!

Major Bug Fixes

A number of important bug fixes were included in the v22.40 game update, including:

  • The Plasmatic Discharge weapon now has the correct weapon type “Launcher.”
  • Fixed an issue with the Sunbeam Grave Digger Perk that caused the Perk’s scaling to produce more damage than intended.
    • Dev Note: This fix is not designed to nerf the weapon, but to fix the scaling issue that occurred as players progressed later in the game.
  • Brainstorms is now compatible with the Trick or Treat hero perk.
  • Fixed an issue in which keybinds for riding wildlife could not be set correctly.
    • Note: Keybinds must be set outside of a mission. We’re currently working on fixing an issue that’s preventing wildlife riding keybinds from being set while in a mission.

Fortnite Creative v22.30 Update

The Fortnite v22.30 update brings the Battle Royale Island to Creative! Using the four special devices that are preplaced on this starter island, you can create a customized Battle Royale experience of your very own. v22.20 also includes a significant UI improvement for the Spatial Thermometer memory system, new Prefabs and Galleries from The Convergence as well as other updates and bug fixes for devices, Prefabs, and Galleries.

Battle Royale Island

There's a new starter island: the Battle Royale Island! With this starter island, you can use special devices to create a custom Battle Royale experience with the current version of the Fortnite Battle Royale Island. This starter island will also automatically update whenever the Battle Royale map changes, so you won't have to update it manually every Season.

While you won't be able to directly edit the Battle Royale Island, you can use a selection of other Creative devices, in addition to the devices specifically for the Battle Royale Island, to create a unique experience for your players.

Note: Experiences created with the Battle Royale Island are not currently eligible for monetization. This means Support-A-Creator (SAC) features are disabled, and that creator codes are not allowed to be advertised in experiences using the Battle Royale Island.

Here are the new devices you can use to create your custom Battle Royale experience. These devices are preplaced on the island, and they cannot be moved or deleted. They can only be used on the Battle Royale Island.

Loot Controller Device

The Loot Controller device provides loot options for Battle Royale experiences. Select from a subset of classic loot packages and determine where they are placed, then customize the frequency or presence of Rare Chests and floor loot (also known as ground loot).

Map Settings Device

The Map Settings device controls which things spawn on the map (such as vehicles, wildlife, and Target Bots) for Battle Royale experiences.

Deployment Device

The Deployment device controls how players are deployed for Battle Royale experiences. Choose from Battle Bus or Rift deployment, and customize a variety of options related to player spawning on the Battle Royale Island.

Storm Caller Device

The Storm Caller device determines the size, position, and phases for the Storm. Whether the Storm grows, shrinks, or moves around — it's all in your hands now!

Using Creative Devices in the Battle Royale Island

Along with the new Battle Royale-specific devices mentioned above, you can also use a number of existing Creative devices by placing them on the starting platform area. Use the Battle Royale Device category in the Creative inventory screen Devices tab to see all the devices you can use. Additionally, you can still use most of the My Island settings to change the rules and look-and-feel of your game.

Note: Target Bots are treated as players by Creative devices, not as AI enemies.

Known Issues

Integrating the Battle Royale map into Creative has been a complex process, so we consider this feature to be in an open beta state. That means that even with our extensive testing, there will likely be a few issues and features that we haven’t caught. Here are some known issues we hope to address in upcoming releases:

  • Unpublished islands don’t reset without reloading. For the time being, if you’re in your Gold Portal, always click Return to Island after playing to make sure the map resets correctly between games.
  • There is currently no support for the Reboot Van or Reboot Card.
  • There is currently no Bounty Board control.
  • Island Backup currently has some stability issues.
  • Parties of more than four players may have issues joining games together.
  • Only published islands will get the proper, slow motion Battle Royale game end. Currently, games on unpublished islands end with the default Creative game end.
  • Quests and Map Discovery are currently disabled.
  • Accolades are currently disabled due to a bug with the Accolade device.
  • Starting a match using Target Bots on an unpublished island can cause a significant pause while the bots are initializing.
  • Players on the Android platform might experience instability due to an intermittent out-of-memory issue.
  • Resetting an island will currently remove the preplaced devices. Instead of resetting, we recommend creating a new island, then deleting the existing one.

Spatial Thermometer Heatmap

The Map UI now features a heatmap for the Spatial Thermometer that can display hotspots of memory more accurately by using a color gradient, as well as displaying numbers in a cell when the cell's memory usage is 80K or higher. You can toggle the heatmap between three different modes:

  • No Heatmap
  • Heatmap without Memory Values
  • Heatmap with Memory Values

These modes affect the minimap as well. Toggle between the modes with the Thermometer shortcut (press T if you're on a PC) while in Fly mode. We hope to provide a more convenient way to access the feature in the future, so stay tuned for further updates.

For more information, see the updated Spatial Thermometer page in our official Creative documentation.

UI Improvements

  • Start screen improvements: The pre-game start screen has been updated for games made using the Creative toolset. The Start button can now be used to start private games before the timer expires. Additionally, the start screen now shows the privacy setting for the game being played.
  • Game Info screen improvements: A new Overview tab has been added to the Game Info screen for islands created and published using the Fortnite Creative toolset. This tab shows the creator's description of the game and allows the player to like and favorite the game. It also provides access to functions like Respawn and Reset Persistence.

    • The Convergence Group A

Island Updates

  • Fixed an issue where Octane vehicles could drive through the island boundary.
  • Fixed a bug where using the Octane vehicle to collide with another player caused the collided player's animations to look incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue where disabling the Game Start Countdown did not remove the buzzer.
  • Fixed an issue involving the existence of duplicate Epic and Legendary Heavy Shotguns that guards could equip, which were weaker than the correct weapons.

The Fortnite Save The World | v22.30 Homebase Status Report

As the Hexslyvania Venture season continues, a new Hero and weapon set make their debut in Save the World. Also, wildlife has become rideable, so jump on a boar or wolf and swiftly ride into the night as you battle Husks in Hexslyvania! As a reminder, this Venture season will end November 20, 2022, at 7 PM ET, so be sure to collect all the rewards, including Brainstorm, before then.

Eye of the Brainstorm

A new Hero and questline arrive in Save the World! Make your acquaintance with Brainstorm, a new Constructor Hero. Brainstorm has the new perk Brain Freeze, which allows their D.E.C.O.Y. to explode in a frigid blast that freezes nearby enemies! Use the D.E.C.O.Y. alongside freeze traps and support perks to turn Brainstorm into a more cautious fighter that controls the battlefield in a… calculated manner.

To unlock Brainstorm, complete the new Eye of the Brainstorm questline!

New Alien Weapons

Four new weapons are arriving in Save the World during this Brainstorm update!

Pulse Pounder

This Assault weapon is fully automatic when hip-fired, shoots slower when aimed down sights, and does Energy-based damage.

Earn the Pulse Pounder from the Eye of the Brainstorm questline!

Shooting Star

This SMG weapon emits a continuous ray of… star stuff. The Shooting Star shoots a sustained beam at the target.

As with the Pulse Pounder, the Shooting Star can be earned from the Eye of the Brainstorm questline.

Plasmatic Discharger

It’s plasmatic, it’s powerful, and it packs a punch. With this new weapon, launch a slow-moving but formidable energy ball that zaps nearby objects and destroys any buildings in its path.

The Plasmatic Discharger can be purchased in the Event Store starting November 6, 2022, at 7 PM ET.

Third Rail

Charge up this high-tech sniper rifle to aim and fire a single powerful shot, great for dealing with enemies behind walls.

Purchase the Third Rail in the Event Store starting November 13, 2022, at 7 PM ET.

Ride Wildlife!

Let your Heroes run wild with the introduction of rideable wildlife in Save the World! Ride on a wolf or boar until it runs out of stamina, or until damage takes its stamina away. Stamina will return over time while you’re not riding and can also be restored by feeding the pet. Ride your boar into the fight and knock the Husks out of the way, while dealing a small amount of damage at the same time. If your beloved creature gets reduced to 0 health it will go into the Down But Not Out state during the fight, fear not — you can rescue it and jump back in the saddle!

Major Bug Fixes

A number of important bug fixes were included in the v22.30 game update, including:

  • Fixed an issue that caused PlayStation trophies to not be awarded for PlayStation 5 players.

Fortnite Creative v22.20 Update

The Fortnite v22.20 update brings the brand-new Direct Event Binding system for devices in Creative! Also, with the new AI Patrol Path Node device, you can create patrol paths for guards spawned from a Guard Spawner device. You can find basic instructions for the AI Patrol Path Node here in the patch notes. v22.20 also includes updates and bug fixes for devices, Prefabs, and Galleries.

Direct Event Binding

The v22.20 update introduces a new system that will completely change the way you build islands: Direct Event Binding! Direct Event Binding allows devices to communicate directly with other devices. Using the new UI that comes with this system, you can set up connections between devices without having to worry about channel limits, or needing to edit the channels on each copy-pasted device on your island. For more information on the Direct Event Binding system, see the official Fortnite blog post about it. We'll also have an overview of the system and instructions for using it in our official Creative documentation.

AI Patrol Path Node Device

The AI Patrol Path Node device creates a path that Guards can follow to patrol an area when they are not in combat. Here's how to use it:

  • Place the device from the Creative Inventory or the Quick Bar to begin a new patrol path.

  • Use the copy control (which is labeled Append when used with this device) to create new nodes, then use the paste control (labeled as Move when used with this device) to append those new nodes to the patrol path.

  • If you copy a node from the middle of a patrol path and paste it, it will append a new node between the copied node and the next in line.

  • If you cut a node and then paste it, it will move the existing node without adding a new one.

  • Deleting a node will cause the nodes before and after it to connect to each other.

  • Placing a new AI Patrol Path Node device from the Quick Bar will always begin a completely new path.

  • Choose a group number using the Patrol Path Group option in the Customize panel for the device.

  • Place a Guard Spawner and customize the Spawn On Patrol Path Group option to match the Patrol Path Group you set in the AI Patrol Path Node device.

  • Guards spawned from that customized spawner will now follow the path for their Patrol Path Group when they are not in combat.

This is just a basic example. To learn more about this device, check out its page on the official Creative documentation site!

Fortnite Battle Royale v22.10 Oct 11 Hotfix: Go to Town with the Explosive Goo Gun and More

A trio of items — two new and one unvaulted — makes its way to Fortnite Battle Royale in the v22.10 Oct 11 hotfix! See the three below:

Make a Mess with the Explosive Goo Gun

Things on the Island are about to get messier (and more explode-y).

Taking a note from the formidable Chrome, Explosive Goo is starting to cover stuff. With the new Explosive Goo Gun, cover your targets in a volatile substance that will stick to whatever it makes contact with and, after a moment, detonate! Make the most of the goo in your gun, as there are no ammo pickups available to refill it.

Explosive Goo Guns can be found from the ground, Chests, and Supply Drops. To start things off with a bang, the Explosive Goo Gun’s drop rate has been increased until v22.20. Grab one and paint the town!

Introducing Throwable Launch Pads

Want an aerial view of Chrome’s beautiful effect on the landscape? Just throw down a Launch Pad and take off!

The new Throwable Launch Pad item combines all the utility of a regular Launch Pad with a sturdy, deployable base ready on the go. Like the Port-A-Bunker item, the Throwable Launch Pad can be tossed at the ground and will instantly create support structures so you can jump on and soar through the sky.

Also like the Port-A-Bunker, the Throwable Launch Pad takes up an item slot in your inventory, so coordinate with your squad about who’s carrying what to maximize your movement opportunities. Throwable Launch Pads can be found from the ground, Chests, and Supply Drops.

Shield Bubbles Unvaulted

It’s not so easy to burst this bubble! Shield yourself and the squad from incoming fire with the unvaulted Shield Bubble. Invulnerable to projectiles and explosives, catch your breath under this protective dome — just watch out for enemies walking in and continuing the fight up close!

Shield Bubbles can as well be found from the ground, Chests, and Supply Drops.

Competitive Notes

  • Explosive Goo Guns are not included in competitive playlists. However, Throwable Launch Pads and Shield Bubbles are included.

Fortnite Battle Royale v22.10 Update: Cobra DMR, Holo-Chests, Return of the Grapple Glove, and More

Your time in paradise just got even more pleasant. The first major update of Chapter 3 Season 4 is here, bringing with it a new DMR, new things to unlock with your Keys, and the Grapple Glove’s return! Also, this Season’s Super Level Styles will soon be available.

Scope Out Prey with the Cobra DMR

It's not easy to flee the long range of a Cobra DMR. With its fast fire rate, opponents can be swiftly defeated if you have a steady hand. Find Cobra DMRs from the ground, Chests, Supply Drops, fishing, Loot Sharks, and Reality Sapling Fruit!

(With the arrival of the Cobra DMR, the normal DMR has been vaulted.)

Unlock New Opportunities

So far in Chapter 3 Season 4, you’ve been using Keys to open Low-Security Vaults and High-Security Vaults. Now, Holo-Chests join the receptacle selection! Use one Key to open a Holo-Chest holding an item you desire: Holo-Chests display a holographic preview of what’s inside so you’ll know whether it has what you need before opening it.

Have something Exotic on your mind? If you're too far away from a selling Character, use two Keys to open an Exotic Holo-Chest! Exotic Holo-Chests contain an Exotic item, and as you'd expect, display a holographic preview of that item.

Grappling with the Past - The Grapple Glove Returns!

Who says you can’t keep vibin’ in paradise? The Grapple Glove from Chapter 3 Season 3: Vibin’ is unvaulted! How does the Grapple Glove work?

  • To begin swinging, shoot its grappling hook at a hard surface like a cliff, prop, or building. Each successive swing gets faster until the third swing and beyond, when you’ll be at max speed.

  • If you miss a shot and land on the ground, you’ll have a brief window of time to shoot the grappling hook and come back swinging. You'll have an even longer window if you slide out of a swing, so don't be afraid to combo some slides into your swinging action!

  • Don’t worry if your window of time runs out: after a brief cooldown, the Grapple Glove will ready itself back up. When the Grapple Glove’s ready again, get back in the air… or get something out of reach — its grappling hook can also be used to pull items towards you! Keep shooting the grappling hook until your Grapple Glove’s out of charges.

Unlike in Chapter 3 Season 3, Grapple Gloves aren’t stored in Grapple Glove Toolboxes. This time, they can be found from the ground, Chests, Supply Drops, and Legendary and Mythic Reality Sapling Fruit. Grapple Gloves will be available until the v22.20 update.

More for Nothing

Bytes’ The Nothing’s Gift Pickaxe is on Page 2 of the Chapter 3 Season 4 Battle Pass. Starting in v22.10, everyone who’s unlocked this Pickaxe (or will unlock this Pickaxe) will receive Bytes Quests! Equip Bytes and complete these Quests to unlock up to seven alt Styles for The Nothing’s Gift, including The Dread Claw, Sharpened Sunburst, Razer Thorn, and more. What can’t Chrome be molded into?

Chapter 3 Season 4 Super Level Styles

Become chromatic. In the Bonus Rewards section of the Battle Pass tab, bonus Styles for this Season’s Battle Pass Outfits have been available for players who progress past Level 100. Starting October 6 at 9 AM ET, this Season’s Super Level Styles will become available!

What are the Super Level Styles this Season? Progress past Level 140 in Chapter 3 Season 4 and start unlocking the Celestial, Spectral, and Aurelian Styles for Bytes, Lennox Rose, Paradigm (Reality-659), Meow Skulls, and Spider-Gwen.

Detailed Squad Comms Wheel… in Detail

An enemy was here! Look, loot over there! Starting with v22.00, you may have noticed a more robust Squad Comms Wheel. Hold your Ping button to pull up the Squad Comms Wheel and place pings with more detail for your squad — or send orders to your hired Characters.

While your squadmates may ignore the added details to “Watch this spot” or “Defend here” when they’re halfway across the map, Characters you’ve hired on the Island will follow your every command. Place markers for them to move up to a point, follow you, or even go revive a downed teammate!

Miscellaneous Updates

  • Boogie Bombs have been vaulted in both non-competitive and competitive playlists.

  • Most one-handed Pickaxes, such as the Gum Brawler and Tribute's Flail, would previously equip by flying into the player's hand. We've adjusted this to be a new equip animation in v22.10.

  • In case you missed it, we recently released a balance hotfix affecting EvoChrome Shotguns and EvoChrome Burst Rifles:

    • Their floor loot availability is now increased.

    • Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary versions can now be found in Chrome and regular Chests.

    • The damage needed to upgrade an EvoChrome weapon at each rarity tier is now greatly reduced.

Slide Kick

A new player movement type has been added in this update. When Allow Slide Kick is turned on, if a player slides into another player or a destructible object, they will perform a sliding kick that does damage and has knockback. This can be turned on or off in the My Island Settings tab, the Class Designer device, or the Team Settings & Inventory device.

New in Creative Documentation

In our Fortnite Creative Documentation, we have a whole new section documenting Prefabs!

The Prefab docs are grouped by theme, and contain a visual presentation of the Prefabs by category. As an example, if you’re looking for ocean or beach-related Prefabs, you can look up all available Prefabs that fit that theme in the Seaside Prefabs doc. We hope this helps you find the Prefabs you need for your awesome island design!

If you're looking for pages on gameplay mechanics for your island, the Gameplay Examples section is now called Exploring Gameplay. We hope this renaming helps clarify the information you can find here.
