Fortnite Battle Royale v21.20 Update: Shuffled Shrines + Charge SMG + Port-A-Fort

With the Battle Royale v21.20 update, stock up at Shuffled Shrines, press forward with the Charge SMG, and fall back with the returning Port-A-Fort! Learn more about this latest update:

Unlock Indy + Search Shuffled Shrines

Ready for some fortune and glory? Indiana Jones’ Battle Pass Quests go live starting 9 AM ET on July 6, 2022! Complete these Quests to unlock the Indiana Jones Outfit and more items from his Set.

Just in time for Indy’s entrance, the Shuffled Shrines temple has been discovered on the Island! Explore this POI just west of The Joneses for an ancient architecture adventure.

Charge SMG: Send a Bullet Barrage

Found from the ground, Chests, Supply Drops, Reality Saplings, and sharks, pick up the new Charge SMG to wind up a punch! You’ll activate a charge by holding down the trigger, and the more you hold it, the more bullets you’ll release when you let go. How to know when to release? You’ll see a gauge on-screen showing how far in the charge you are. Send a strategic full charge or a spontaneous partial charge!

(With the arrival of the Charge SMG, the Combat SMG has been vaulted.)

Fortify Fast with the Port-A-Fort

Nothing says good vibes like convenience: the Port-A-Fort is back! Throw down a Port-A-Fort — found from the ground as well as Chests — to fortify yourself in seconds. Zero building is required, as the fort will arise on its own.

Ripsaw Launcher Locations

Even though Ripsaw Launcher Week has come to an end, you can still find Ripsaw Launchers from the ground, Chests, and Supply Drops in addition to The Chop Shop! However, with Ripsaw Launcher Week being over, this weapon will be in a more standard supply.

Competitive Notes

  • The Charge SMG is not included in competitive playlists.

  • The Combat SMG has been vaulted in competitive playlists.

  • The Port-A-Fort is not included in competitive playlists.

  • In case you missed it: Last week, we removed Characters and wildlife from competitive playlists to improve server performance.

Major Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue involving the icon of players’ Reality Sapling sometimes being misplaced on the Map page.

Fortnite Battle Royale v21.10 June 28 Hotfix: Ripsaw Launcher Week + Firework Flare Gun

With the Battle Royale v21.10 June 28 hotfix, serve destruction with Ripsaw Launcher Week and the remixed Flare Gun! Learn the details below.

Ripsaw Launcher Week - Demolition Dispatch

Been causing destruction with Ripsaw Launchers? To celebrate their recent arrival, Ripsaw Launcher Week is live now! Find Ripsaw Launchers in higher supply from June 28 at 9 AM ET to July 5, 2022, at 8:59 AM ET. In addition to their usual Chop Shop spot, you can now get them from the ground, Chests, and Supply Drops in abundance. Let ‘er rip during Ripsaw Launcher Week!

Ripsaw Launcher Rundown

Take up a Ripsaw Launcher to send a sawblade flying. Even after gravity sends the sawblade to the ground, it’ll roll and create chaos in its path. Whether flying or rolling, the sawblade will destroy each structure in its way, potentially felling towering builds. Sawblades also have the power to damage (and knock back) players and cars. Ripsaw Launchers contain multiple sawblades, so send sawblades in spades.

But that’s not all there is to the Ripsaw Launcher. Rev it up more to increase the range and velocity of the sawblade projectile — or hold the rev to make the Ripsaw Launcher a melee weapon! As you’re holding the rev, the sawblade will spin around so fast that it’ll be hazardous to structures (and somewhat to foes). It’s wise to reserve the Ripsaw Launcher’s final sawblade for melee action, so that you can keep using the weapon to tear down what’s in your path!

Firework Flare Gun - Flare Gun with Flair

It’s the good vibes Season, so why not add some fireworks? With the Firework Flare Gun, you won’t be shooting a standard flare. Instead, every shot you take will be a fireworks show. The area where the firework shell explodes will be set aflame, causing the start of a spreading blaze.

Find Firework Flare Guns from the ground, Chests, and Supply Drops. 🎆

Competitive Notes

  • The Ripsaw Launcher Week changes do not apply to competitive playlists, as the Ripsaw Launcher is not included in these playlists.

  • Firework Flare Guns are not included in competitive playlists.

Survivors, Survivors Everywhere

In 21.00, we adjusted Rescue The Survivor missions. As soon as you rescue all Survivors the mission will end, cutting out your time waiting for the mission timer to finish counting down.

With 21.10 we’re continuing improvements in this area, fixing some interactions where Survivors wouldn’t spawn and adding more camps so you can save ‘em all! We’ve also modified this mission to spawn more survivors than is needed to earn the Platinum badge, making them easier to find and giving you some flexibility when rescuing everyone.

Consumable Changes

  • Consumable food for Wildlife now drops from containers in addition to normal loot like crafting materials and ammo, instead of replacing them.
  • The stack size of all consumables have increased to 999 so each type takes up only a single inventory slot.

Fortnite Creative v21.10 Update: Rideable Wildlife and Hired Guards

Learn about what’s new in the Fortnite Creative v21.10 update!

  • The Wildlife Spawner device now spawns wolves and boars you can ride.
  • You can now use the Guard Spawner device to allow players to hire spawned guards.
  • Use the new Item Placer device to place weapons and consumables on props or building pieces.
  • Other additions + bug fixes.

Rideable Wildlife

Let your imagination, and wildlife, run wild with the introduction of rideable wildlife in Fortnite Creative! Deathrun on the back of a wolf, anyone?

In the Wildlife Spawner's Customize panel, set the Riding option to Enabled to allow players to ride wolves or boars from that Wildlife Spawner to be rideable in your game.

Hired Guards

You can now make Guards hireable in-game! Hired Guards will be on the same team as the player, follow them around, and attack opponents on sight. You can also customize the name for hired guards to add to their personality.

In the Guard Spawner device's Customize panel, set the Can Be Hired option to Yes and spawned guards can be hired by players in your game.

Item Placer Device

Ever wanted to place a weapon or keycard in a less obvious way? Then the Item Placer device is for you! Just drop any weapon or consumable into the Item Placer to place the weapon/consumable on a table, or to mount the weapon/consumable to a wall. With customizable interaction text, and the ability to determine whether or not the placed item drops to the ground, the Item Placer will add a new level of immersion to your islands.

Social Tags + Looking For Party

Express how you play Fortnite! With the new option to add social tags to your profile, select up to three for other players to see. You can choose tags that express your favorite game mode(s) (2v2, Deathrun, Free For All, etc.), your gameplay vibe(s) (Chill, Mic Off, Mic On, etc.), and your preferred competitive event(s) (Cosmetic Cup, Hype Cup, Lightning Cup, etc.). You’ll also be recommended Fortnite experiences based on your social tags.

To add social tags to your profile, click on your profile icon in the Sidebar, then select +Add Tag. Once you have at least one social tag, you’ll be able to send party invites to and receive party invites from players with matching tags (who are in your server region). These party invites can be sent from the new Looking For Party section in the Sidebar. This section is Fortnite's very own LFG (looking for group) feature where you can party up based on interest and region.

In this section, you will need to turn on Looking For Party in order to start sending and receiving invites from players. At any time, you can turn Looking For Party off. When off, you’ll stop receiving invites and have your sent invites expire. When playing Duos, Trios, Squads, etc., using Looking For Party is optional — the normal invite system for partying up will remain.

Social tags and Looking For Party are features currently in testing. These features will be incrementally rolled out to all players at a rate dependent on the test.

Update (June 22, 2022): As of June 22, social tags and Looking For Party are no longer in testing. They have been rolled out to all Battle Royale/Creative players!

Reality Sapling Balance Change

We've made adjustments to the amount of Reality Fruit a Reality Sapling can grow based on its rarity. In each growth cycle, Reality Saplings will now grow:

  • 3 fruits when Uncommon or Rare

  • 2 fruits when Epic

  • 1 fruit when Legendary or Mythic

Visualized Audio Adjustment

We've reduced the detection radius of the “Visualize Sound Effects” indicator for footsteps, Chests, and vehicles to better match the distance when that sound would be audible. This will mean the source of these sounds will need to be closer before appearing on your HUD.

Competitive Notes

  • The Darth Vader boss, Darth Vader’s Lightsaber, Stormtroopers, and E-11 Blasters are not included in competitive playlists.

Fortnite Battle Royale v21.00 June 14 Hotfix: The Grapple Glove Swings In

As the Reality Tree’s energy envelops Logjam, grapple with this mystery while grappling with a new item:

Hooked on Swinging: Put on the Grapple Glove

The Screwballer’s not the only high-flying thrill this Season. Pick up a Grapple Glove and use it to swing through the air! To begin swinging, shoot its grappling hook at a hard surface like a cliff, prop, or building. Each successive swing gets faster until the third swing and beyond, when you’ll be at max speed.

If you miss a shot and land on the ground, you’ll have a brief window of time to shoot the grappling hook and come back swinging. You'll have an even longer window if you slide out of a swing, so don't be afraid to combo some slides into your swinging action! But don’t worry if the window of time runs out: after a brief cooldown, the Grapple Glove will ready itself back up.

When the Grapple Glove’s ready again, that’s your cue to get back in the air. Or perhaps to get something out of reach… You can also shoot its grappling hook to pull items towards you! Keep shooting the grappling hook until your Grapple Glove’s out of charges. Grapple Gloves can be found in Grapple Glove Toolboxes, located at the pink Grapple Stops throughout the Island.

In case you missed it, we made some balance changes recently:

Striker Burst Rifle

  • Increased the first-bullet recoil of the Striker Burst Rifle.

Like This Island!

It is now easier than ever for players to tell us when they enjoy an island! With 21.00 we've added functionality to the UI that will allow players to give a thumbs up to an island on exit. V-Bucks Purchased on PlayStation Join Fortnite Shared Wallet

Starting with v20.40, V-Bucks purchased on PlayStation may be used across platforms that support Fortnite Shared Wallet (PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Android, and cloud gaming services). As always, V-Bucks earned on any platform through the Battle Pass, Quest Packs, or Save the World are shared across all other platforms. See our recent blog post on Fortnite Shared Wallet for more information.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S Latency Reduction

We've made performance improvements to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles running in 60 FPS that reduce input latency for players who select “Low Input Latency Mode” in the settings (Settings > Game > Extra Game Options). Low Input Latency has been enabled by default.

PlayStation 5 - Change to How to Enable 120 FPS in Fortnite

It’s now easier for PS5 players to enable 120 FPS in Fortnite.

To enable 120 FPS in Fortnite on PS5, players no longer need to go to the console settings. Instead, 120 FPS can be enabled by doing the following:

  1. In Fortnite, open the Settings menu from the Sidebar menu.

  2. Click on Video.

  3. Toggle 120 FPS Mode to ON.

  4. Click Apply.

Note: The 120 FPS option will not appear if your TV or AV receiver doesn’t support 120 FPS output.

Middle East Server Region Change

Networking options for the Middle East server region have changed. To ensure all players in the region have the best experience — if you had manually selected the server region to Middle East — it has now been reverted to Auto.

This means that some players who are normally connected to Middle East servers will now connect to Europe or Asia. Competitors, be sure to check the Compete tab in-game for Cup starts times.

Players are able to switch back to the Middle East server region if they choose to do so, but remember that this will likely result in high ping.

Competitive Notes

  • Arena Fill has been enabled.

  • The Sideways Showdown unvaults are not included in competitive playlists.

  • The winner of the Shield Bubbles vs. Balloons vote will not be unvaulted in competitive playlists.

Major Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue involving players not receiving social notifications if they were in a match in a party with another player.

  • Fixed an issue involving the UI of the Anvil Rocket Launcher not appearing.

We’ve taken the feedback and now you can place nice fluffy clouds to add to any map! Primitives Shapes Gallery B featuring 16 new materials for creations have arrived for your use. The only limit with these is your imagination.

Update: Promotion of Islands with XP enabled

In order to maintain a fair and consistent experience as part of our Discover experience, we're updating our policy on the in-game promotion of Islands with XP enabled. Mentioning XP in images, trailers, and the Island description can be misleading and will be disallowed; however, using the XP tag is still completely fine!

For new or updated Islands, please ensure your Island assets correctly reflect the experience your map provides.

Note: The policy blog has not yet been updated to reflect this change.
