Update 60 Released - New Wars Have Begun

NEW FEATURES

Update 60 includes a broad range of small features and improvements across the entire game. Below is a highlight of the more prominent changes.

FACILITIES

Several new Facilities improvements have been made. First, a new Facility modification, the Heavy Munitions Foundry has been added, which is used to produce ammunition for tanks and heavy infantry weapons outside of logistics towns.

A new form of Map Posts have been added to help builders highlight public Facilities to other players in the world. They communicate what can be produced and what is stockpiled at a given Facility.

Besides that, many other tweaks to gameplay have been made to Facilities gameplay. Watch the devstream for details.

SQUAD OFFICERS

A new Squad Officer rank has been added, allowing Squad Leaders to better manage their Squads. Officers are next in line for promotion to Leader if requested, if the Leader becomes AFK, or if the Leader goes offline.

OPTIMIZATION

A large portion of development in this update was spent on optimizing both the server and client code for improved performance across the board. Some of those improvements are highlighted below.

OTHER FEATURES

A bunch of other quality of life changes have been introduced as well, summarized below.

ENVIRONMENT LORE

Two environmental set pieces have been added to the world. The first is in the form of a revamp of the Stlican Shelf region, which features a large ruined relic ship on the map.

The second is the Velian Temple, a new type of Garrisoned House featured in the southern part of the world.

NEW EQUIPMENT

DEPLOYABLE BANNERS

New Banner items can be carried (as large items) and deployed on the battlefield. Each faction has a unique design.

Infantry Update & The Biggest War of the Year

INFANTRY UPDATE

Foxhole's annual update has arrived! Prepare for a major revision in Foxhole's infantry gameplay, designed to be more team-oriented and tactical. This update introduces deeper suppression gameplay, weapon shouldering mechanics, and a stamina overhaul, alongside other features to make the entire infantry playspace more impactful on the persistent battlefield. Watch the official Infantry Update Launch Trailer below for a summary of what's new.

INFANTRY COMBAT OVERHAUL

Experience a more dynamic infantry game with refined suppression, weapon shouldering, and stamina mechanics.

INFANTRY ANTI-TANK WEAPONRY

Infantry forces are now equipped to counter armor with the introduction of specialized anti-tank rifles for suppressing enemy armour advances.

CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT

Fight at close quarters with a new melee combat system that allows for both quick and charged attacks, blocking, and knock down mechanics. Charge through the trenches with new melee weapons, including the Eleos Infantry Dagger and Falias Raiding Club.

Shotguns have also been updated with new mechanics, giving them a more unique role on the battlefield. New faction specific variants have also been added: The KRF1-750 Dragonfly and the No.4 The Pillory Scattergun.

MEDIC UPDATE

Medics have been upgraded with an expanded role, making ambulances and hospitals a more crucial part of the war effort. Medical Rooms can now be built directly inside bunker networks, enabling wounded soldiers to recover directly at the trench lines.

Finally, medical forces have been bolstered with the all new First Aid Train, a mobile field hospital that traverses the battlefield on rail.

INFANTRY ARMS FACTORY

New facilities have been added for producing crates of equipment and specialized weapons for infantry. To support this new production chain, a new Small Container Train Car has been added as well as the new Crate Transfer Station, which allows disassembled crates of equipment to be stored at Facilities.

INFANTRY BATTLEGROUNDS

A more engaging infantry battleground with the addition of ruined fortifications and other features, offering cover and a more dynamic combat environment.

PERSISTENT MINE FIELDS

Large scale, persistent mine fields can now be deployed to permanently bolster fortification lines. Mine fields can be constructed with either Anti-Tank or Anti-Infantry Mines.

CUSTOM INFANTRY LOADOUTS

Infantry can now build custom loadouts, enabling mission specific gear to be easily assembled deploying to the front.

MAP SEARCH TOOL

As the persistent world has expanded over the years, there are now hundreds of locations on the map. To help players navigate this vast geography, a new search tool has been added to the map interface, allowing any location to be easily identified.

90T-V "NEMESIS"

With immense off-road capabilities, the 90T-v “Nemesis” is a highly versatile armoured vehicle. While it may not boast the defensive capabilities of its more heavily armoured cousins, the “Nemesis” shatters enemy formations with its deadly 68mm cannon and auxiliary grenade launcher.

GALLAGHER BRIGAND MK. I

The first of Colm Gallagher’s mid-sized tanks, the Brigand is a true brute on the battlefield. Not quite as sturdy as its younger siblings, the Brigand compensates with higher mobility, which, when paired with a mounted machine gun and 30mm repeater cannon, is a deadly force in any armour division.

Update 57 Released - Weather Revamp, New Logistics Ship, Quality of Life

WEATHER REVAMP

Update 57 revisits the weather systems that were added over three years ago in Winter Army. The goal of these changes were to address major player feedback, make weather have more of an interesting impact on gameplay, and adapt weather to all the new content that has been added over the years.

SNOW STORMS

Rivers and lakes can now freeze over again. This was a feature that was removed in Naval Warfare but not only is it back, but it's been expanded upon. Frozen bodies of water can now crack and break when vehicles drive over them.

The heavier the vehicle, the more quickly the ice is damaged. Large Ships like Destroyers can also crash through ice while Submarines can traverse beneath. Broken ice will refreeze over time.

RAINSTORMS

Rainstorms have been overhauled with more interesting mechanics, giving players more agency with how they are impacted. Infantry are no longer automatically encumbered by Rainstorms when walking over certain surfaces but rather are only impacted when walking over discreet pools of water that accumulate dynamically on the ground, in trenches, and artillery craters. These pools of water can be removed with a Shovel or Water Bucket.

WEATHER STRUCTURES

New structures have been introduced to help armies deal with and strategize around weather events.

BUNKER HEARTH

The keystone to any bunker, this simple hearth functions both as oven and warmth in the coldest weather, heating a fair area around it when built on solid foundations.

FIELD RANGE

This easy-to-construct range is perfect for keeping warm in the cold, while being sturdier than a simple firepit.

WEATHER STATION

A high-tech weather module built on solid foundations within a bunker network. These stations help operators predict weather patterns. Multiple Weather Station modules may be chained together to make more accurate predictions, allowing armies to prepare for the worst conditions.

WIND SOCK

A sturdy fabric cylinder mounted on a tripod that’s designed to help nearby operators determine the speed and direction of wind.

LARGE RESOURCE SHIP

BMS - BOWHEAD

This BMS shipping vessel, the Bowhead, is specially designed to carry large quantities of resource containers and fitted with compartments for resource Harvesters. Named for a great whale, the Bassett Motor Society ensures that resources get delivered to the front lines where they’re needed and when they’re needed due to efficient loading bay design and a sturdy frame.

BMS - IRONSHIP (REFRESH)

The Bassett Motor Society’s Ironship-class shipping vessel is used to freight shippable goods and heavy vehicles.

The Freighter has been updated to be more consistent in scale and features with the other vessels introduced in Naval Warfare. It has a redesigned chassis, a walkable deck, an extra passenger seat, and a spotter position.

QUALITY OF LIFE

INVENTORY TOOLS

The inventory has been upgraded with new quality of life changes. New features include sorting functionality, custom stack splitting, smart stacking, equipment slot tooltips, and inventory access as passengers.

IMPROVEMENTS

There are numerous other quality of life changes, some shown below.

OTHER CHANGES

This update contains dozens of other improvements including Facility Husks, a Sniper Rifle rework, new player UX improvements, and much more.

Update 56 Released - Frigates, Submarines, & Facilities Overhaul

WARDEN LIGHT FRIGATE - BLACKSTEELE

Named for the unpainted look of an early prototype, the Blacksteele-Class Frigate is a highly manoeuvrable, albeit small-statured vessel. Deployment of “Trident” Submarines by the Republic Coastal Legion saw the Caoivish Naval Command respond in kind with the Blacksteele.

Designed as a sub-hunter escort, the Blacksteele excels at thwarting submersible assaults against larger, ungainly ships. The head shipwright on the project was none other than Conor O’Brien’s top protégé, Rory Boyd, who, in his later years became known as a master shipwright, and largely recognised as the man behind the Caoivish Naval Command’s world-class reputation.

Primary armaments include two 120mm turrets and 68mm turrets. Secondary armaments include a Quad Depth Charge Launcher and two Heavy Machine Guns. The Blacksteele supports a large crew complement.

COLONIAL SUBMARINE - AC-B “TRIDENT”

The AC-b or “Trident”-class submersible brings much-needed versatility to the Republic Coastal Legion. Featuring a quick-loading ammo bay, the “Trident” is capable of quickly re-arming and returning to the hunt.

Combat Magister Curia commissioned the skilled engineers out of Dimiourg to develop a submersible to help counter the rapidly progressing naval technology deployed by the Wardens and Nevish Alliance. Much of the senate criticised Curia for this decision, as they believe it more prudent to invest resources into airborne warfare innovations. After witnessing the return and redeployment of several successful trial AC-b operations, it wasn’t hard to convince the Senate.

Primary armaments include two Torpedo Tubes and a 120mm Deck Turret that can be used against surface targets. The AC-b “Trident” features a unique Ammo Bay Hatch that allows for rearming without returning to Dry Dock. This vessel supports a medium crew complement.

NAVAL

OCEAN TRAVEL

The naval game has been expanded with many key updates. First, is the addition of Ocean Border Travel, which allows ships to travel from an East or West Ocean border to the other side of the world. This allows for many more opportunities for naval engagements in all wars, especially those with East-West oriented starting conditions.

TORPEDO REVAMP

Torpedo gameplay has been completely revamped to give Submarines a more unique hit-and-run role out at seas. Direct Torpedo hits to enemy vessels now causes the target to roll from the force of the impact, kills crew near to the impact, and creates a Large Leak, which requires a Dry Dock for repair.

DRY DOCK UPGRADES

The Dry Dock has also been upgraded both visually and gameplay wise. The model has been updated to include more details, new animations for ship building has been added, and water now visually drains and fills up when a ship is being constructed or repaired. In addition to cosmetic improvements, Material Pallet and Shipping Container contents can now be directly transferred from the Dry Dock Loading Area to a specific stockpile on a docked vessel.

FACILITIES OVERHAUL

PRODUCTION PARALLELIZATION

Facilities have been overhauled to make the more approachable to new players and to encourage collaboration in the spirit of Foxhole. Production Facilities can now produce items in parallel, allowing them to be shared with public players who can queue up their own private orders.

POWER SCALING

Power mechanics have been improved to make Facilities easier to manage. Power Plants and Power Stations consume fewer resources when less Power is being consumed on the grid than is being generated. Production Facilities no longer turn off when insufficient Power is being supplied. Finally, in low Power situations, production speed is scaled down proportional to demand.

IMPROVEMENTS

This update contains dozens of other improvements, including more voice chat settings, colour customization on more Container structures, interface improvements, and much more.

Foxhole - Update 56 Preview on March 19th

Watch the live preview of Update 56 on our Devstream on Tuesday, March 19th at 1PM ET. Tune in live on our Twitch Channel to get the details on what's coming to Foxhole next.

Update 55 - Improvements & Game Balance

Note: Most of the content of this post is taken from our recent Devblog.

As 2023 winds down, we wanted to give everyone a final update on development for the year, including information on the next minor update as well as an early look at what's to come beyond that.

The team has worked tremendously hard this year shipping four updates including Naval Warfare and needs some down time to be with their family and friends over the holidays. While our live and moderation teams will still be supporting the game throughout this time, most the dev team will be taking some well deserved time off for rest and recuperation. If we are quiet, rest assured that we'll be heads down looking at feedback and working hard on the next update when the new year rolls around.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays. See you all in 2024!

ROADMAP

As mentioned previously, the plan was to do one more minor update before the end of the year.

After Update 55, we will continue to expand on the Naval game that was introduced back in October. In the new year, Update 56 will arrive and will add new naval vehicles for each faction. A Frigate class ship will be added to the Warden navy and a Submarine class vessel will be added to the Colonial fleet. We’re excited to provide each faction with the gameplay that is currently only accessible to one side or the other.

Throughout next year, the plan is to go back and refine various parts of the game, iterating on existing features rather than building entirely new systems. We know that QoL is a top priority for the community so that’s something we’re also going to be working on.

In terms of the bigger picture, up until now we’ve been working off of an internal roadmap that included Trains, Facilities, Towing, and a Naval revamp. It was extremely challenging pulling off major updates year after year but we really wanted to get Naval Warfare in to complete the roadmap as it’s always been to us a foundational part of the persistent war, not to mention one of the most highly requested features from the community. With that final piece of the puzzle in place and the internal roadmap complete, the team will be taking a break from major updates to focus on refreshing, but not reinventing existing systems for awhile.

Make no mistake though, we are developing a brand new roadmap for the next phase of development but it will take some time. Major updates will be part of that next phase and we're in the early stages of planning some big exciting things but don’t expect that to arrive any time soon. The Foxhole development team will continue to grow and updates will continue to be delivered for many years to come.

UPDATE 55

There is some important context to keep in mind for the changes going into Update 55. First of all, this will probably be one of our smallest updates of the year. Between supporting Update 54 and the work that will come in Update 56 in the new year, the scope of Update 55 had to be small.

The main focus has been on addressing an internal backlog of fixes and tweaks that have accumulated over the last while as we focused on the naval update. It's important to understand that the changes that end up in updates like this aren't always based on what is deemed the highest priority feedback to action but rather on current team resources available and other circumstantial factors.

Update 55 will have game balance changes, a lot of bug fixes, and a handful of small improvements such as those shown below. For a complete list of the changes in this update, read the full release notes.

We understand that there are many other changes the community is requesting based on the current war. We also know there have been requests for more QoL features. We are looking into addressing more of these issues in the updates coming in the new year.

Foxhole Naval Warfare is LIVE

NAVAL WARFARE

Foxhole’s next major update has arrived and expands the persistent online war from land to sea, enabling thousands of concurrent players to join player built fleets and engage in full fledged naval battles. In this massive overhaul, players will step onto the decks of battleships, invade distant shores in high stakes beach landings, conquer new island-based territories, and more.

NAVAL WARFARE

FLEETS OF SHIPS

Build and deploy impressive fleets of Gunboats, Destroyers, and massive, screen-spanning Battleships with dozens of players on deck.

MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER CREWS

Operate new classes of large naval vessels with crews that must work in tandem above and below deck, taking control of engine rooms, sonar, navigation, and other ship systems.

NAVAL TACTICS & STRATEGY

Coordinate with shipmates to deliver and load ammunition, launch depth charges, and deploy sea mines in nail biting, tactical naval battles.

IN-DEPTH SHIP SIMULATION

Ship subsystems can be individually destroyed and compartments may become flooded. Seawater must be bailed out and leaks repaired to stay afloat during naval engagements. In critical moments of battle, players must decide between sealing off flooded rooms or risking the total loss of a ship.

SUBMARINES

A new threat emerges from the depths. Invisible to conventional intelligence equipment, Submarines can traverse the seas undetected, ambushing convoys and thwarting naval invasions before they begin.

INVADE FROM THE SEA

BEACH LANDINGS

Naval landings have been redesigned from the ground up, enabling armies to land on distant beaches and fight their way through enemy bunkers, trenches, and emplacements. New base ships allow players to deploy directly at sea to stage coastal invasions. Dedicated landing ships can be launched from these bases to ferry infantry, armour, and field weapons to shore.

WATER LOGISTICS

Colossal cargo ships are essential for any invading armada to resupply troops during landings, allowing for sustained long term operations at sea. Once the beachhead is secured, field piers allow logistics to continue supplying engaged forces as they push inland to secure enemy territory.

ISLAND WARFARE & OIL PLATFORMS

The world of Foxhole has been expanded with new water-based regions. Complete with strategic islands and offshore oil platforms, these new territories set the stage for thrilling new naval campaigns.

TOWING

TOWABLE VEHICLES

Logistics forces have been upgraded with vehicle towing. Trucks, Half-Tracks, and other specialized vehicles are now capable of towing field weapons and other equipment on the battlefield. Towing enables brand new field weapon mechanics, including heavy field guns that are difficult to move with infantry and require deployment before usage.

TRANSPORT TRAILERS

Logistics units can now produce one of several transport trailers, allowing additional resources, materials, and fuel to be hauled on cargo runs to the front.

HEAVY DUTY TRUCK CLASS

Towing the heaviest payloads will require a new class of vehicles. The Heavy Duty Truck is equipped with a high-powered engine and includes a manual transmission to meet the demands of challenging terrain on the battlefield.

SELF PROPELLED ARTILLERY

Mobile heavy artillery is now available to each faction, enabling rapid deployment of 150mm across the persistent war.

FACILITY ROCKET SITES

Rocket Sites return to Foxhole, but in the form of player built facilities that can be constructed anywhere in the world. Rocket Sites require the coordination of many players to produce and operate, requiring an Intelligence Center for targeting. With the capability of levelling entire towns, they represent one of the most devastating weapons in the game.
