Hi all,
We're very happy to inform you all that the new shiny pieces are now out of beta! Shiny pieces are new variants of the classic six with new weapons and abilities! You can try them out in game now! There are some changes made based on feedback from the beta as well. Read below for info on this fairly beefy update!
New Content
Just in case you missed it from the beta announcement, you can add shiny pieces individually in the board editor, or replace all the pieces with their shiny version at once in the host menu!
Game Balancing
The following balance changes were made based on feedback from the beta.
Slightly nerfed the Shiny knight's shoot damage and rapid-fire damage.
The Shiny Rook's shoot damage has been buffed.
The Shiny Pawn's sword throw is now instant.
Slightly nerfed the Shiny Pawn's swing damage.
Removed the Shiny Queen's damage falloff.
Nerfed the Shiny King's helicopter damage.
Bug Fixes
The following bug fixes have been carried over from the beta.
Fixed soft lock where both players couldn't take their turn.
Fixed soft lock where player joining a game couldn't promote their pieces.
Fixed bug where player joining a game could hover multiple pieces simultaneously.
The following are new fixes from the beta.
Shiny pawns no longer promote to regular pieces.
Fixed a bug where after hosting a match with shiny pieces or a custom board, the next game would use the same board instead of the default board.
The tutorial should now use the correct mouse sensitivity based on player settings.
Fixed a bug where pieces destroyed in combat would be invisible once play returned to "board mode".
Upcoming Updates
Adding the new shiny pieces to local multiplayer.
Adding shiny ability gifs to the tutorial menu.
Performance updates are being worked on (one thing specifically, reducing the polycount on the pieces themselves).

FPS Chess Version 1.1.0 Open Beta
Hello all!
We're happy to announce that we now have an open beta for the next update that you can now opt-into on Steam! We're wanting to make sure there are as few bugs and oddities as possible with this update, so we're putting this into an open beta for you all to try out and provide feedback on! See anything that you think we should know about? Post them to the Steam forums!
The beta name is "shiny-pieces-open-beta" with the password "ShinyPiecesOpenBeta". The beta will not show up for you to join unless you enter this password.
Not sure how to opt into a beta on Steam? Check out this guide! Just substitute "CS:GO" for "FPS Chess" where appropriate.
Please note that if you are playing in the beta, you will not be able to play with those who are using the default version of the game and vis versa.

The developers behind this project wanted to express gratitude for the support you've all shown! The students (now alumni!) also wanted to let you all know that they have all graduated and are working full time jobs now. Updates may be irregular as they are supporting this game in their free time now, but there are still some planned updates to come. Watch the space!

Fixed client rubberbanding on bishop glide and rook grapple.
Fixed client issue where ability cooldowns sometimes didn't refresh to show they were available after the cooldown period ended.

Fixed issue where pieces could still die after a winner was declared (such as being killed by the train).
Players that lost control of their cameras can now regain it by clicking. We are looking into a real fix for this.
It is now harder to clip out of bounds.
Fixed "enemy player left" notification bugs.
Fixed most of the issues that occur when skipping the kill-cam.
Game Balancing
Pawn ally can no longer headshot the opposing player.
Knights now have a very small delay before an arrow can be released. This should additionally help prevent against autoclicker abuse.
Upcoming Updates
Fixes for the Bishop's glide acting odd in certain cases.
Fix for a rare softlock where the game thinks it is the other person's turn for both players.
A fix for the loss of camera control (again, you can now click on the screen to regain control of the camera if this happens now).

Patch Notes
Debris now disappear faster with lower effects quality settings. This will help players who lag more as the game goes on.
A potential fix for the game not ending when the king is destroyed is in. Let us know if you still experience this, and under what conditions.

The Rook can no longer headshot while not scoping.
The Knight's damage has been slightly decreased.
The Knight's fire rate has been increased.
The Bishop's grenade cooldown has been increased.

Added gamepad support for the chat wheel.
Added ability to close the chat wheel without sending a message (by putting the selector in the middle of the wheel).
The King can no longer slam directly through the roof.
The punishment for flying too high has been buffed! Explore the skies at your own peril!
Error messages will now be displayed as pop ups to help give context to why connection could not be established for a game.
Fixed Bishop gliding aspect ratio in splitscreen.
Fixed wrong resolutions being used when the game is in fullscreen mode on start up.
