The winds of change are upon us, and they bring not just frost, but a flurry of improvements to our frozen world. We are thrilled to announce the release of our first major update since launch - PATCH 1.1.0 | QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS! This substantial update is a direct result of your invaluable feedback, for which we are immensely grateful. Your voices have been heard, and the city grows stronger for it.



🔧 Patch Highlights



Stewards, your voices have been heard. We've been closely monitoring your feedback across social media, Steam reviews and forums, and Reddit, and we are happy to present a host of improvements that directly address your concerns. Some of the key highlights include:


  • 🖥️ Edge scrolling is now available as a setting,
  • 👥 Construction and frostbreaking can now be cancelled
  • 🏙️ District outline colours are not different depending on the district
  • 🌄 Nomads are now more visible in the Prologue, and frostbreaking is no longer performed by machines
  • 🔥AutoSave can be disabled, and its frequency can be changed in the game settings
  • 🛠️ Large-scale optimizations have improved game performance, DirectX libraries have been updated, and a macOS stack overflow crash has been fixed.



The frozen landscape of New London is now more navigable than ever. You asked for more control, and we delivered: edge scrolling, cursor lock, and enhanced camera responsiveness are now at your fingertips. The Frostbreaker, once limited, can now carve out desired swathes of land, giving you unprecedented freedom in shaping your city.

For those who value precision in city planning, rejoice! You can now cancel constructions, allowing for quick adjustments to your grand designs. And to keep you informed of your city's progress, ongoing research is now prominently displayed in the Idea Tree.

We've expanded your view of the frostland with an extended Cartography range, letting you plan your expansions with greater foresight. And for those unexpected situations, you now have more control over your game saves, with customizable AutoSave frequencies and the option to disable it entirely.

The visual clarity of your city has been enhanced, with district outlines now color-coded for easy identification. In the Prologue, you'll notice the Nomads are more visible, adding to the immersive experience of your city's origins.

Performance has been a key focus, with large-scale optimizations aimed at smoothing out your gameplay experience. We've updated our DirectX libraries and fixed critical issues, including the pesky macOS audio crash that some of you reported.

Gameplay

  • Frostbreaking can now be performed on any number of cells up to 8
  • Community Actions will be offered more often in Council negotiations
  • New Consequence Arcs are awaiting Steward when the following events happen

    • Keeping the generator off for too long when there are available fuels
    • Promoting a Faction only to Raise Funds afterwards
    • Repeatedly failing promise quests for a hostile Faction
    • Condemning and promoting the same faction in quick succession
    • Failing too many votes after granting an agenda to the same Faction
    • Quelling a protest after negotiating with a Faction and making a promise

  • Addressed a possible softlock if the player found and used all Steam Cores before Chapter 4
  • Having simultaneous quests to pass a policy and repeal the opposite policy will no longer be possible
  • Having multiple promise quests to the same law (research, pass, repeal) will no longer be possible
  • It will not be possible to promise to pass a policy that is already on the agenda for the next Council voting session
  • Promises about fuels won't show up if it's not possible to use them with the current Generator upgrade
  • Enclaves and Watchtowers built in them cannot be demolished or deactivated after the relocation of Faction has been completed
  • Enclaves are no longer available for construction in colonies under certain conditions in Utopia Builder
  • Improved prologue onboarding by separating quests
  • Adjusted the timing of the 'Survive the Whiteout' quest

  • Districts will no longer remain blocked after the Protest has been resolved through increased relations with a protesting Faction
  • Fixed softblock related to quests not starting at the beginning of Chapter 2 on some occasions. Restarting Chapter 2 may be required for the fix to be applied.
  • Fixed softblock related to quest flow not starting at the beginning of Chapter 4 if the Player loaded a quick save right before the cutscene
  • Fixed crashes which could occur upon using some abilities and loading a save file right after

  • Player can now skip the Prologue in New Story submenu
  • Mouse scroll can now be used to trigger zoom stories

Carefully going through your comments and feedback allowed us to prioritise what to focus on – one of the most requested changes was to have the option to skip the Prologue in the New Story submenu, which we’re happy to announce is now available.

We’ve also introduced a pop-up message at game startup regarding outdated GPU drivers and provided more detailed information about the CPU recommendations.
What’s more, we introduced additional fixes to existing DirectX 12 issues, which were implemented to the existing temporary separate branch ‘glimmer', while our team is continuing work on a permanent fix.

Dear Citizens!

We are happy to announce that we're back with another update bringing various fixes and improvements to Frostpunk 2. Your continued feedback and support are invaluable as we work tirelessly to enhance your experience in this frozen world.



Patch Notes:



Gameplay & Balance - Prologue

  • Negative Squalor events will now trigger at a higher Squalor threshold
  • Fixed issue where Squalor would cause much more Wear to districts than intended
  • Food Hub Workforce cost decreased from 100 to 50
  • Food Hub Prefabs cost decreased from 80 to 40
  • Increased Prefabs deposit size on Citizen difficulty
  • Reduced Cold growth by 20% on Citizen difficulty level
  • Reduced Cold growth by 10% for Officer, Steward and Captain difficulty levels
  • Cold events will now cause fewer deaths

Changes to the Prologue aim to soften a few unnecessary bumps that increase difficulty in unwanted places, reinforcing the role of Prologue as a small-scale introduction to the challenges of the full complexity of the game.

Interface

  • Added 'Load Chapter Start' button on the Chapter screen in Story mode to make it easier to replay specific chapters
  • Improved exposition of Utopia Builder in the Main Menu

For those of you who thought that the Campaign / Story Mode is everything Frostpunk 2 has to offer - we improved visibility of the Utopia Mode which is our frost covered answer to endless mode.

  • Fixed macOS audio crashes due to incorrect HP filter behaviour on time dilation actions
  • Fixed rare crashes on changing any game setting
  • Audio optimizations

We're happy to let you know that we've resolved a critical issue affecting Apple Silicon - MacOS devices users. The audio-related crashes have been fixed, which should now allow players to run the game smoothly on these computers. This fix was also possible thanks to you who provided additional information about the issue.

We're pleased to introduce these improvements, including Prologue balance adjustments and reduced Cold-related deaths, making the early game more manageable while maintaining the Frostpunk 2 level of challenge, and adding the ability to load specific chapters if your Steward career ends prematurely.

We knew that taking Frostpunk 2 in a direction not everyone expected would push the boundaries of what a sequel could be. Our aim was to create a unique experience, a game that could co-exist with the original in the world of Frostpunk while having something new and meaningful to say. We're extremely proud of what we've accomplished, and we're thrilled to see how many of you are enjoying where we've taken the franchise.

Rest assured, our work is far from over. With your invaluable feedback, we're committed to further improving the game through upcoming hotfixes and patches. We’ve already pushed two over the past few days and yet another one literally moments ago!

We also invite our creative community to explore the FrostKit modding tool, bringing your own visions of survival to life.

We’re coming to you with yet another update of various fixes and optimization improvements - thank you for your continuous feedback and support, we’re hard at work to make your Frostpunk 2 experiences better and better.

Patch Notes:



Gameplay & Balance

  • Tweaked Peace Accords requirements to remove a possible softblock encountered in specific circumstances
  • Fixed Oil not being properly transferred between the city and colonies when specific conditions were met
  • Fixed Squalor not being properly increased/decreased upon changing the activation state of Generator or Surplus Injectors

Other

  • Audio tweaks to reduce CPU overload
  • Localization fixes
  • Twitch integration fixes
  • Various minor optimisations to art&UI
  • Fixed ‘Thank you for your feedback’ achievement requirements
  • Fixed ‘Ambitious’ achievement requirements

  • Fixed audio causing higher CPU usage than intended leading to crackling sound issues on some PCs and stability problems on MacOS
  • Optimized Dark Mode so it no longer affects performance on 2nd and 3rd game speed
  • Improved performance of city messages
  • DLSS is now available on nVidia Quadro graphics
  • Fixed buildings from different district categories appearing in the incorrect district tab
  • Fixed an issue where the intro splash screen could be very loud for some users


As you can see, we put emphasis on various performance improvements such as dark-mode, audio and parallax scenes performance fixes - those encountering such issues should have a much smoother experience now.

We've also implemented improvements to game stability and security to prevent issues during quick save/load as well as removing keybinds to bypass communication channels.

We’re also working on DirectX 12.x fixes, audio performance fixes and more, which we plan to implement in the next hotfix in the upcoming days.

TEMPORARY FIX - AUDIO CRACKLING ISSUE

TEMPORARY FIX - AUDIO CRACKLING ISSUE

We’ve noticed some of you are experiencing occasional audio crackling issues so we’ve decided to create a temporary separate branch we called ‘whiteout’ for now, so you can still enjoy your time in the frostland during the weekend.

If you’re encountering CPU throttling issues, this temporary fix could also help you with that.
You can access the whiteout branch by going to Frostpunk 2 in your Steam Library and clicking Properties -> Betas, and then switching to the whiteout branch.

For now we’ve managed to implement this temporary solution on Steam and Windows only, but we’ll work on a permanent solution first thing Monday morning and implement it in the main branch ASAP!
