Galactic Core: "The Lost Fleet" & "Revolution"

Hello dear community members,
Today we have an important announcement to make!

As most of you reading this might know,
this game, "Galactic Core: The Lost Fleet", has significantly changed form and evolved over the last few patches into a full locomotion VR shooter game, following our major patch v0.3.0 and beyond.
The player can run, sprint and leap through the air, it's crazy!

Even though most of these changes have been very well received, we have been getting several requests from veteran players who, in addition to the new content introduced over the last few patches wanted to be able to replay some content from previous versions (prior to v0.3.0).

Why not just add previous content to this game?
Simply "mashing" all content together wouldn't work out as well as you might imagine,
since the difference in game play and mechanics is so significant to the point where it would be too confusing for most players.
Also from a development perspective such a code-base would be almost impossible to maintain.

What approach are we taking?
It is for the reasons mentioned above that we have made the decision to split the game into two separate games and as a result lower each game's price down to to 9.99$ (from the original 14.99$).
(1) This game, "Galactic Core: The Lost Fleet", will hold all content prior to patch v0.3.0.
(2) All content released after v0.3.0 will go into a new game which will be called "Galactic Core: Revolution".

NOTE: if you have already purchased "Galactic Core: The Lost Fleet", PRIOR to post date of this announcement you are considered an early adopter and as such are entitled to a FREE KEY to the new game "Galactic Core: Revolution".
Please contact us by e-mail at portalstudios@portalstudiosvr.com to claim your free key!

What kind of players will each game appeal to?
In some sense this game "Galactic Core: The Lost Fleet" is a predecessor to "Galactic Core: Revolution" and features not only different content but a completely different play style which could be considered more "casual".
"Galactic Core: The Lost Fleet" is suitable for all VR gamers, newcomers and veteran alike,
while "Galactic Core: Revolution" could be considered more suitable for experienced VR gamers who have come to expect even more intense game-play and advanced locomotion options out of the wave shooter genre.

Minor Patch v0.2.2 Now Available for Download!

Hello everyone!

We have another minor update for you guys with some interesting additions and improvements:

First off I'd like to once again give a special thanks to our player Dosburritos, who has committed significant time to playing through the game and providing a generous amount of valuable and constructive feedback.
Many of the improvements and changes you guys will experience in this (and subsequent) patches were inspired by or reinforced by him, and for that he deserves the credit.

Now on to the Release Notes:

- NEW: Added a new Power-Ups system with 4 initial power-ups:
"Boost Attack Power", "Restore Health, "Restore Energy" and "Repair stronghold".

- NEW: All hero classes are now available at the start of the game and no longer have to be unlocked through progression.
Note: If you have played the game before and have not yet unlocked all 3 classes, you will have to delete your existing save file from the game's AppData folder or otherwise just play through the game and unlock them like before. NOTICE that deleting your save folder will also cause all mission progress to be reset and so you will have to play through again to unlock them. This shouldn't really be an issue since having missions unlocked necessarily means you have already unlocked the classes and so this shouldn't really be an issue for most players.

- Missions 1 & 2 now automatically end when player reaches the final wave but players can choose to return and pick up that mission where they left off if they choose.

- Overall game sound improvements including making several sound effects 3D to give a sense of the sound's origin.

- Significant improvements to Mission 3:

  • Boss difficulty and stability improvements, making the mission more challenging and reducing chances of boss becoming stuck.
  • Background music's new "Playlist system" now plays much more fluently.

Minor Changes
- Mission 1 has become slightly more lit: Fog lighting makes approaching enemies more visible.

Know Issues:

Trying to close the game from within SteamVR will cause SteamVR to hang until reset.
We've looked into this issue and actually found out this is a prevalent issue with many games developed in Unreal Engine.
The issue is caused due to SteamVR not closing the game in an appropriate fashion which in turn causes the application to crash and never completely close.
> Workaround: Instead of having to restart steamVR every time you wish to switch to another game, it is possible (so it seems from our testing) to launch another game WITHOUT closing the currently open game.
This should result in a successful transition between games.

Important Note on Subsequent Patches

If you've taken the time to read through and release notes and got to this point that means you probably care about this game's development progress, and so this note is for you:
In the coming weeks we expect to be rolling out fewer patches than usual.
The reason being not because we are becoming less active, but rather the opposite.
We are planning a significant major patch that will focus primarily on player progression and hero class identity.
This next major patch is expected to be a very significant improvement to the game and will represent a major milestone in its development.

As always, stay tuned for more updates!

Minor Patch v0.2.1 Now Available for Download!

Hello All!

This is a small and quick patch with some important fixes!

First off I'd like to give a special thanks Dosburritos for reporting the first bug and actually going through the trouble of opening a discussion thread on it!
We truly appreciate it a lot and hope to see more of our players engage and continue to give us feedback throughout the development process about fixes, improvements and content they would like to see made!

Minor Patch Release Notes:

- Fixed: Tutorial mission did not launch when selected by the player.
- Fixed: Engineer's ultimate ability would go on indefinitely instead of being time capped.

Other changes:
- Mission 3 minor visual improvements.

Know Issues (Scheduled for next patch) :

- Mission 3 background music suddenly gets cut off for a few seconds and then resumes (caused by our new feature called "dynamic playlists" which switches tracks dynamically based on the phase of the Boss fight).
- Mission 3 make Boss Encounter more stable and increase difficulty level.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more updates!

Major Patch v0.2.0 Now Available for Download!

Our First Major Patch is Finally Here!

after quite a while of being in the works it’s finally ready for release.

The main highlight for this patch is our brand New 3rd Mission which is of a completely new type.
While both previous missions were of type "wave survival", the 3rd mission is a BOSS ENCOUNTER, which brings you face to face with a creature of epic scale!
The fight keeps getting more intense as you drive the boss’s health down, forcing it to transition between different phases.

We are looking forward to your feedback on this encounter, help us tune its difficulty level and let us know if you would like to see more boss encounter missions in the future!

Noteworthy Features and Fixes:

- Added new aerial navigation system (Do N), making flying enemies much more flexible and performant but might cause a slight increase in level load times.
Expect more air-born creatures in the future! :)
- Added new locomotion option in 3rd mission which allows free teleportation around the walkable area in the map.

Behind the Scenes Work in Progress:

As some of you might remember we have switched to working part time jobs so we can dedicate more time to the development of content for this game.

What to expect in the coming patches:
- A new “Power ups” system will be landing in the coming minor patches (just a couple weeks from now) adding a whole new dimension to gameplay. It is going to be awesome!
- Our main focus for the next major patch is now turned towards creating the “armory system” which will enable purchasing and upgrading of weapons, armor and abilities.

Looking forward to hear from you!

Jake.

This mission is scheduled for patch v0.2.0.

Minor Patch - Release Notes:

Minor Patch v0.1.2 Now Available for Download!

Hello everyone!

This is our second Minor patch since we've released the game just a few weeks ago! :)
Our focus for this patch was :
1. Improving the core gameplay experience for our players.
2. Beginning to construct the foundations for our upcoming Major patch.

For the reader's convenience we'll try to keep the release notes concise and list the most important fixes and features first:

Minor Patch - Release Notes:

Features and Improvements
-

Weapon effects

Made several minor improvements to weapon effect that add up to make the overall playing experience just way better:
- Added gun laser pointer that looks great and really improves accuracy.
- Added weapon muzzle effect when shooting
- Made weapon thinner and also made it glow more
- Ammo text color changes as player clip empties.

Tutorial experience improvements

We're constantly trying to think of ways to improve the tutorial experience for players, especially as its their first impression of the gaming experience.
We've Added transparent Vive controllers with flashing buttons indicating the key that needs to be pressed.
Other significant improvements can be expected over the next few patches.

Improved L/R support

Players no longer have to switch controller between hands!
Speaks for itself ;)

Upcoming Major Patch v0.2.0 - Behind the Scenes Work in Progress

We will not elaborate too much on these subjects yet - but just to give the reader a general idea of what we're working on for the next Major patch:

Mission 3
A new encounter plays out on a completely new and visually satisfying map.
Mission 3 introduces a whole new game mode: Boss Encounter.
This mission is very important to us as it demonstrates our desire to go beyond the classic "Waves" game mode and expand the experience into new territories.
Stay tuned for upcoming spoiler images!

New Locomotion Mechanic
Allows the player to teleport freely throughout the map - will be the standard locomotion option for Mission 3 and beyond!
This comes in addition to the existing teleportation between strongholds.

Armory - Weapons and Items
Began laying foundations for the upcoming Armory system.
The armory system will be a core element of the game play and we are hoping to see players spend part of their focus on purchasing and upgrading their weapons, armor and abilities.
Supporting such an armory system and have swappable items requires significant work and refactoring of code and there is still significant work to be done in that space.
We're hoping to be able to give players a taste of the armory system in the upcoming Major patch.

Other minor features and fixes

- Fixed mission 1 intro where spaceship was expected to make a landing effect and didn't.

Please let us know what you think of these changes,
Enjoy!
