A few notable changes move things forward for a small update!

  • Click-and-drag control added for hero piece movement -- you'll see a particle trail when you hold down left mouse button (hold-click) with a hero piece selected, hover over and release to move to the desired space
  • Master volume setting saving bug fixed, properly persists session to session like v0.87
  • Highlight effect added to Pawns targeted with a hold-click
  • Text layering glitches with master volume slider fixed
  • A menu clickthrough bug where Knights would sometimes be automatically selected for an Endless party fixed
  • A bug allowing hero pieces to be controlled at the end of Tutorial stages fixed

Hoping to make a bunch of little improvements to Puzzle Attack mode in near future updates, most notably a level preview added to the level selector. Should be pretty cool, I hope! :D

  • Click-and-drag control added for capturing Pawns -- try holding down the left mouse button upon selecting a hero piece and then releasing on any Pawn you're targeting for a smooth, single-click attack
  • All the counters in the HUD now reposition based on the number of digits they're displaying
  • Now when a Puzzle Attack stage ends in defeat, hero pieces turn desaturated
  • Tooltips added for the buttons of the options menu (access with right click)
  • A bug where 2nd wave Viper Pawns (pearl blue palette) could jump over regular Pawns has been fixed
  • A bug allowing the resurrection of hero pieces not selected in the original party after loading a quicksave has been fixed
  • Queen-ups able to be purchased for fewer than 5 SP in late game fixed
  • Queen-up status persisting after a piece is resurrected fixed
  • Master volume inadvertently adjustable with the menu closed fixed
  • Hero piece campaign tooltips occasionally layering below Pawns fixed

  • Persistent game saves added to Endless mode, allowing you to save and resume your run in a later session OR return to that earlier save state in your current session (check out the new icons at the bottom right of the screen!)
  • A massive Puzzle Attack mode achievement added that rewards your progress towards clearing all 48 stages within par
  • Animation speeds for certain sprite effects have been slowed down a touch
  • A special audio cue added for when a game ends in defeat
  • User names clipping into those huge 4-digit scores on the leaderboards have been fixed
  • A bug occurring in Endless mode where hero pieces would occasionally get sucked into the same position when a Queen-up was used has been fixed
  • Wave and Hit counters in Endless mode have been uncapped from 99 and 9,999 respectively
  • A text printing bug where viewing tooltip info on a Knight with an active Queen-up could cause a game crash has been fixed
  • Some inconsistencies in par values for Puzzle Attack stages have been corrected
  • A turn counting bug in Puzzle Attack mode triggered by hero piece capture has been fixed

Later via quiet patch:

  • Audio control improved with the addition of a master volume slider to the options menu
  • Screen resolution changes now confirmed by clicking either the display button again OR closing the options menu
  • A generous resurrection bug at the last stage of the Tutorial's lesson 2 fixed

A few cool additions bring Gigachess to v0.86!

  • Puzzle Attack mode now rewards you with a gold star on the level selector for puzzles cleared within par
  • 6 new achievements added based around your Pawn slaying proficiency with Knights, Rooks & Bishops (unlock achievements at 250 hits and 1,000 hits per hero piece)
  • A silly bug in the game's Steam stats reporting has been fixed, making possible the 6 new achievements described above!
  • A lingering turn counting error in Puzzle Attack mode occurring when stages were replayed is now resolved

Also, because it's always nice to know a little about what's on the horizon, v0.87 will feature game saving in Endless mode, new achievements based around par clears in Puzzle Attack mode, and more! :D

A brand new patch just hit Steam and it's got a bunch of tweaks and fixes. Below are some of the more noteworthy things to look out for in v0.85!

  • When captured, hero pieces now leave behind shattered remains to mark their point of demise
  • Viper Pawn glow has been ramped up to be more easily differentiated from regular Pawns at a glance
  • Highlight effect when choosing which hero piece to receive a Queen-up improved
  • Right-click tips for Pawn last move now layer above all pieces on the board
  • Undo, when used in a turn when a Blockade explodes, no longer returns that Blockade to the board
  • Layering issues with text occasionally appearing above the mouse cursor fixed
  • Windowed 1600x900 option added to resolution presets
  • A handful of inconsistencies in the par values for several Puzzle Attack mode stages corrected
  • Power-ups can no longer be purchased at the 'Defeat!' state of an Endless game

Gigachess v0.84 Update!

Just in time for New Year's, we've put together an update to overhaul the menu system and make a handful of other tweaks. v0.84 is live now, here's what to look out for!

  • OS-style toolbar for game options replaced by a much more cohesive in-game GUI (access the menu via the icon at the top left of the screen)
  • 'Return to Main Menu' button added to the exit game prompt ('N' still acts as a keyboard shortcut for returning to main menu)
  • 'Undo' button added to the bottom right of the playfield ('X' still acts as a keyboard shortcut for undoing a turn / stage)
  • Windowed resolution presets expanded to include a 1920x1080 option ('R' still acts as a keyboard shortcut for switching window size)
  • When in fullscreen mode on non-16:9 displays, black borders now fill the area outside the game screen in the event that the aspect ratio can't stretch
  • Special characters fixed up for the font used on the leaderboards

Gigachess v0.83 Update!

Over this past week, lots of little tweaks and fixes have been happening to tighten up a number of spots and address the funnier bugs brought up by you wonderful folks on the forums. A new build just went live, here's the major stuff to take note of from all of that!

  • Leaderboard presentation considerably souped-up
  • Leaderboards properly order player entries on multiple pages
  • Undo command, when used in Endless mode, correctly rolls back purchased power-ups in a given turn
  • Game restart upon choosing 'Play Again?' at the end of an Endless run wipes all power-ups from the board to prevent respawning within blockades (among other things)
  • Exit confirmation prompt more thoroughly depresses game function while on-screen
  • Inaccuracies in turn counting during Puzzle Attack and Tutorial mode fixed

Also, it can't go without being mentioned how awesome it is to see the leaderboards getting filled up with amazing scores, cracking into the thousands! Seriously impressive stuff, Gigachess has never seen such love. <3

Gigachess v0.82 Update!

First things first, thanks a bunch to everyone for providing such great feedback on their experiences with the game on launch day! Wonky display options are no good and that's a big part of what this little update seeks to improve.

  • Auto-hiding menu bar only applies in fullscreen mode
  • Fullscreen scales properly and doesn't conflict with the taskbar
  • Exit confirmation prompt appears when ESC key is pressed (double-tap ESC to quick exit)
  • Disappearing mouse cursor bug is fixed (change window size with R key to restore if alt-tabbing manages to kill it)
  • 25-hit Achievements now operational
  • Leftover save data from debugging cleared from Puzzle Attack mode progression

Despite how simple it is, cloud saving is doing something silly so we've removed that feature from the store page until it's up and running. It's super encouraging to hear that you're enjoying Gigachess, the game's only going to get better the more time we all spend with it!
