Patch v1.0.9 Released
Patch v1.0.9 for God of War is now live.
Please restart Steam to receive the update immediately
Patch Notes
New Features
Aiming and Blocking can now be configured as a toggle instead of a hold
Triple Buffering can now be enabled to reduce micro-stutters at the cost of a minor latency increase
GPU memory usage is now included in the video settings to aid performance troubleshooting
Fixes
Memory values will now be detected properly when using integrated graphics
Silent crashes will no longer occur if a GPU reports invalid memory values
Some gameplay systems will no longer cause intermittent crashes
Implemented small object culling to help reduce the number of objects being processed by the CPU
Developed in response to recurring AMD performance issues, this change should improve minimum framerates in scenes where there are many objects on-screen. During our testing, we saw an average 20% improvement in frametimes above the 95th percentile.
To those not experiencing instances of major framerate drops, please note that this change will not result in a significant improvement to graphical performance.
See below for our testing data [expand type="details"]
Culling Performance Testing
Tested on a AMD Ryzen 9 5900X CPU, 64GB DDR4 RAM, and a AMD 6800XT GPU FPS = Frames per second, FT = Frametime Lower frametimes are better
AMD Shader Caching Last updated 3/23/22 at 10:00am PST Throughout our testing, we noticed intermittent framerate reductions when shaders were accessed for the first time. We are working with AMD to resolve this in a future patch.

Experimental Build - Test Fix for Crashes
After patch v1.0.5, we saw a large increase in reports of crashes within our community and the automatic crash-reporting system. The majority of these crashes were all in the same sub-system. We have been investigating this issue continuously since the first reports started coming in.
Today we are enabling the experimental branch for God of War with a possible fix for this particular crash that is most prevalent as 'new' as of v1.0.5. We would love your help in validating this fix if you are willing.
Note that we have not completed our full round of quality assurance testing on this build, so there could be instances of instability that we have not identified yet.
Still, if you're willing to help, please download this new build and let us know how it goes.
To access the experimental branch, follow these steps:
In your Steam library, right click on ‘God of War’ and select ‘Properties’
Select the ‘BETAS’ tab
Change the drop down to ‘experimental’
If you do not see the branch in your drop down, please restart your Steam client.
To switch back to the default branch, follow these steps:
In your Steam library, right click on ‘God of War’ and select ‘Properties’ Select the ‘BETAS’ tab Change the drop down to ‘none’
We appreciate your patience as we work to solve this issue.

Patch v1.0.6 Released
Patch v1.0.6 for God of War is now live
Please restart Steam to receive the update immediately.
Patch Notes
Fixes
Enabling FSR will now no longer result in blurry/blocky image quality
Xbox controllers will now have proper joystick sensitivity
Mouse Precision Mode will no longer cause movement animations to break
New Features
Added translations for Precision Mode that were not included in patch v1.0.5
Mouse Precision Mode now supports Aim Assist
In v1.0.5 we added an error message that reported if the game was having issues saving or loading save game files. This message interrupted gameplay and was determined to be ultimately unhelpful for players. We're still investigating reported issues surrounding save game files, but for now we have disabled this error message.
EDIT - 11:15am PST Feb 8th, 2022
We have seen reports of an issue with controller drift after this update. We have added this to our Known issues while we investigate the cause.
As a temporary fix, please disable Steam Input:
Open Steam
Navigate to your game in the library view
Right-Click God of War
Select Properties
Select Controller on the left sidebar
Under the drop down for “Override for God of War” select “Disable Steam Input”.
We acknowledge that this is not ideal for some controllers and are looking to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
EDIT - 12:15pm PST Feb 8th, 2022
Our team has identified the cause of the controller drift issue and is working on a solution. We do not have a timeline, but we'll update these patch notes once we do.

This new mode works by ignoring the default mouse-to-camera conversion implementation. Additional sensitivity fine-tuning can be done by tweaking values in the settings.ini file in the game installation folder. This mode should NOT be used in conjunction with Aim Assist.
Lastly, while we do not have a timeline, we want to communicate that we have identified the primary cause leading to AMD performance problems and are now investigating solutions to resolve this issue.
