• Update 1.245.6.1

    JUNE 22, 2025

    We deployed version 1.245.6.1.

    • Updated English, Russian, Chinese, Japanese texts.
    • Last week's changes to Chinese card and ability names were poorly received, so we have reverted them or given them new names. (thanks, :magic_sparkles: 莉莉卡·露希蒂涅, 子元, 炒鸡厨客, Chinese Community).
    • Updated Ukrainian. (thanks, :magic_sparkles: 4nsZei).

    TOURNAMENT

    The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 27.

    [Team CO]

    Update 1.245.5.0

    We decided to move the weekly release notes to this smaller format (patch notes), published only in English, and save the bigger update format for larger chances – when these are introduced.

    JUNE 13, 2025

    We deployed version 1.245.5.0.

    • updated English, Russian, Japanese texts
    • updated quite a lot of Simplified Chinese tags
    • on the cards, we used to show the outcome as "ːmaliceː1"; we now show it as "1ːmaliceː" (it's been like this for a long time already, in the texts of card rules)

    NEXT UPDATES

    We continue with the weekly updates. At this time, we focus on edits of the rules for Jail Cards.

    NEW CARD: "SECRET WAREHOUSE"

    Good morning, lovely people –

    Today we have 3 news items to share, plus a bonus section:

    1/3 TEXT UPDATES

    This week we updated about 70 descriptions of card names, rules, and character abilities in English, Japanese and Russian. These edits will be reflected in Simplified Chinese in a couple of weeks. We also updated about 10 descriptions in Simplified Chinese.

    We will continue to edit on a weekly basis for clarity, and to synchronize the terms used across the game, in English, Japanese, Russian and Simplified Chinese, for a few more weeks – then we'll harmonize a few other languages.

    The goal of this project is to make the game easier to grasp for new players, as well as more transparent for everyone. This also helps us to prepare the real-life board game version of Gremlins, Inc., as well as the backbone of the modding module for Gremlins, Inc. 2.

    2/3 NEW CARD: "SECRET WAREHOUSE"

    ːcardsː"Secret warehouse"

    Location: The Dump
    Cost: 250$
    Move points: 5
    Type: secret
    Get: 1ːscoreː

    Special Rule:

    For each of your active permanent cards: +2ːscoreː.

    Where something is free,
    you will always find me!

    – "A collection of romantic poetry of Clockwork-town"

    This card will likely be unremarkable in the early part of the session, used only for movement. But at the end of the session, it may become terribly powerful: if you own 5 active permanent cards and play this card, you get 11ːscoreː.

    3/3 NEW ART: "MORAL DILEMMA"

    We added to the game the first updated illustration of a ːtelegramː Misfortune: now "Moral dilemma" has a new look. The effect does not change, but the flavour text is new (for now, in English, Russian and Japanese; Simplified Chinese is coming a bit later).

    When we developed the game many years ago, we didn't have the time to do high-detailed illustrations for those. We now decided to amend that. When all the new visuals are ready, we will update the UI of the Misfortune window itself (for the moment, we'll stick to the stamp design and the system of color codes).

    ROADMAP

    We also started working on another new action card. We'll wait until we sell 10K more copies before we release it.

    BONUS SECTION

    This week, we join Steam Next Fest with our new game – Sister of a Dragon. A demo version that showcases its battle system is now available, with over 30 encounters:

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/3723490/Sister_of_a_Dragon__DEMO/

    The game has 3 pillars: the story mode, which includes adventures, party development and character progression; the challenge mode, which is all about turn-based battles using a hex matrix; and the open world mechanic – that is, crafting and alchemy.

    Now that we have released the demo, we'll keep it public, and will continue to update it regularly all the way until it features the whole palette of the game's mechanics.

    If you're good at playing Gremlins, Inc.... see if you can score 499/499 ːsunnyemoː in Sister of a Dragon's demo!

    UPDATE 02/06/2025

    Good morning, dear friends :

    Throughout 2025 we release weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc., with quality of life improvements:

  • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
  • balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
  • sometimes, improvements in the UI.

    If you have any suggestions in the categories above, please post them on Steam Forums. We are here for you, working to make your game experience better.

    And if you report a ːhypnoheartː particularly good ːhypnoheartː bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio, with these enamel pins (we can ship anywhere in the world, but delivery times vary) –

    UPDATE 02/06/2025

    The updated version 1.244.11.0 is released on June 2.

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    The last week (as well as the whole weekend) we burned a lot of midnight oil, and edited over 100 cards, descriptions of spots and locations.

    To give you an idea of what we're doing, here's a few examples from the hundred+ of fixes that we've made:

[th]Before[/th]
    [th]After[/th]

You can re-roll the dice while searching for treasure.
    Search for treasure. You can re-roll the dice once. Only the result of the last roll counts.

If you want, you may skip a turn here to lose ːmaliceː {2} and choose one out of {1} new cards.
    If you want: rest by skipping 1 turn; when you rest: -{2}ːmaliceː, draw {1} cards from the deck – you may choose 1 card to keep.

Discard all your cards. Get ${1} and ːmaliceː{2}.
    Discard your hand. +{1}$, +{2}ːmaliceː.

ːbh2coinː The first case was typical for a lot of descriptions: you needed to read the whole sentence to understand what it means. "You can re-roll" – wait, what? Why can I re-roll? We fix this by putting the action first, in this case – 'search for Treasure'.

    We also standardize the common terms: not "you can re-roll the dice", but "you can re-roll the dice once", since there are a few cards where you can re-roll twice; just "re-roll" is not good enough. And, we add the clarification that only the results of the last roll count, since in a few board games you would be able to choose "the best of all rolls". Here, we want to be clear upfront.

    ːbh2coinː The second example is a deeper rabbit hole. The legacy description does not explain, that you lose malice and look at the new cards only during the skipped turn; i.e. if you stop to rest in the Astral Plane, but someone teleports you from there before you have skipped your turn... these things won't happen.

    Moreover, the legacy description says "you may choose one out of N new cards". We split this into the specific actions: you draw N cards from the deck, and you may choose to keep 1 – or not to keep anything at all.

    ːbh2coinː The third example is typical for harmonizing the terms, and making card rules concise. When you drop all of your cards into the discard pile, we call this "your hand". Maybe someone will think that "discard all. your cards" also includes active permanent cards? It makes more sense to use the term "hand". And, we used to have a lot of verbs like "get", "gain", "lose", as well as "and" connecting the values. We transition to using just + and –, which helps even more significantly in the languages where "get" is not 3 characters, but, say, 8 like in Russian ("получите").

    All in all, we look at these edits as preparing the game for being moddable, as well as getting it ready for the possible real-life board game edition.

    All of these edits happen in English, Japanese and Russian for now, with Simplified Chinese following with a week's delay. All other languages will get their edits in the autumn, during a big localization review project.

    ROADMAP

    NEW CARD

    The new card is coming with the next update. It will be playable at the Dump.

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    In the coming week, we will focus on the edits of special abilities. For example, this is coming among other edits:

[th]Before[/th]
    [th]After[/th]

Every time you roll "1", your {income} rises by {1}.
    When you roll 1 on the dice: {income}|+{1}. When re-rolling, only the result of the last roll counts.

It's the usual harmonization and clarification: "rises by" –> +, "every time" –> "when"; we add "dice" to the verb "to roll" because in some languages, it's required to deliver the specific meaning; and we add the details about only the last result being taken into account, to prevent any possible confusion that you could re-roll and get the results of this ability with every 1 that shows up, during any of the attempts.

    It may not be the most exciting work in the world... to the veteran players, these changes are all but invisible... but we think it makes the game more accessible, easier to understand, and thus we will see more people playing with confidence.

    [Team CO]

    PS

    The big day has come: the demo of our new game, Sister of a Dragon, is now available:

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/3723490/Sister_of_a_Dragon__DEMO/

    This demo showcases the basics of the combat system. We now continue to work on the story mode, which introduces the characters, their adventures in the world, and the first elements of crafting. Once that part is ready, it will be added to the demo.
  • UPDATE 24/05/2025

    Good morning, dear friends :

    As you may know, throughout 2025 we have committed to releasing weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Such updates typically include a few quality of life improvements:

    • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
    • fixing typos and missing values in some languages;
    • occasionally, balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
    • sometimes, improvements in the UI (font sizes and other things);

    If you have any suggestions for future updates in the categories above, please post them on Steam Forums. We are here for you, working to make your game experience better.

    And if you report a :hypnoheart: particularly good :hypnoheart: bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio, with these enamel pins –

    UPDATE 24/05/2025

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    We updated texts for a total of 150 card titles, descriptions and flavors in English. This deals with the harmonization of the way we describe rules (other player / any player / opponent / reveal / show / etc.).

    TOURNAMENT

    We announced the results of the last tournaments.

    TRIVIA TIME

    Can you tell, what is missing from the cards shown below? We used this deck to playtest Gremlins, Inc. at the stage of a prototype. Hint: it was pretty frustrating to play with these, it took just one multiplayer session to realize that one crucial feature is missing.

    ROADMAP

    NEW CARD

    We plan to add a new card in time for the Steam Next Fest, which starts on June 9.

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

    [Team CO]

    PS

    We are pleased to announce the start of the playtest for Sister of a Dragon, a new game we have been working on for a long time. At this time, we accepted 500 requests from players. Many thanks to those who already provided detailed feedback, whether it's about a spelling mistake or a rule that isn't fully clear in the tutorial. This feels like the early days of Gremlins, Inc. all over again.

    On next Thursday, May 29, the demo will become available to the general public. The maximum number of stars you can earn in the current version, is 499. Please let us know if you manage to do this.

    UPDATE 16/05/2025

    Good morning, dear friends :

    As you may know, throughout 2025 we have committed to releasing weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Such updates typically include a few quality of life improvements:

    • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
    • fixing typos and missing values in some languages;
    • occasionally, balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
    • sometimes, improvements in visual assets (contrast/colors);
    • sometimes, improvements in the UI (font sizes and other things);
    • from time to time, improvements in stability of servers;

    If you have any suggestions for future updates in the categories above, please post them on Steam Forums. We are here for you, working to make your game experience better.

    And if you report a ːhypnoheartː particularly good ːhypnoheartː bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio.

    To be honest, sometimes this commitment to weekly updates proves to be a bit difficult, but we consider it to be like going to a mental gym: we learn how to get better at working remotely across 3 time zones (Vilnius, Moscow, Gifu), and we learn how to ship updates routinely, without delaying small fixes until "the next big patch" (which earlier often meant, not doing it at all).

    To everyone who flagged typos/unclear rules so far – thank you!

    And to our colleague Alex, who built the update overnight despite getting married today and needing to be elsewhere – congratulations! ːspellcastingː

    UPDATE 16/05/2025

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    We updated about 30 descriptions of action cards in English. This was a big chunk of harmonization of language, including getting rid of "opponent" where it really meant "any other player" and making the rules easier to grasp by re-phrasing based on the "(what happens) (condition)" scheme.

    We updated about 40 descriptions of action cards in Russian. Typical harmonization involves using the same words to mean the same thing, and using the same phrase (1:1) for the same condition in different cards. It's all meant to make the game easier to get into, and it also prepares us for the board game edition.

    We updated about 60 descriptions of action cards in Japanese. These 3 languages – English, Russian and Japanese – are the languages of our team, and thus we're able to make changes on the fly. In addition to them, we also coordinate with the external Chinese translator. As to the other languages, we will edit them only when all the English-language edits are done.

    We updated 3 descriptions of cards in Simplified Chinese. Unfortunately, here we lag on the "primary" languages.

    We updated the description of 1 Chaos card in English, Russian, and Japanese.

    We fixed a few errors in the descriptions of action cards, and edited one character ability, in Spanish (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː Lluc Riberax).

    ROADMAP

    NEW CARD

    We are close to the finishing touches on the new card. We intend to release it at the start of the upcoming Steam Next Fest in June, where we will also participate with the demo of our new game Sister of a Dragon.

    UPDATED MISFORTUNES

    We made some progress with the first illustration for Misfortunes that will receive a new format once we're done. This is meant to both improve the video game, and prepare the board game edition when it happens (not much to say on this front, for now).

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

    If you spot a spelling mistake, please send it our way on the forums/in Discord. There must be a few for sure? We enjoy fixing things, and we love reading such reports. However, support for languages not routinely used by studio members may be delayed.

    TOURNAMENT

    Due to a very happy occasion for the team member in charge of tallying the results of all the tournaments (i.e. Alex getting married), the announcement of the results of the last tournament has been delayed. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

    [Team CO]

    PS

    We spent most of this week crunching on Sister of a Dragon, where we finished the tutorial, and the UI updates. The only thing that prevents us from opening the Playtest is the translation – completing the English / Russian / Japanese / Simplified Chinese sets. We're going to spend this weekend working on these, to speed up the release, as otherwise we can't wait to see you try to beat all the 13 challenges, with 39 encounters that we prepared for you.

    UPDATE 11/05/2025

    Good morning, dear friends :

    As you may know, throughout 2025 we have committed to releasing weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Such updates typically include a few quality of life improvements:

    • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
    • fixing typos and missing values in some languages;
    • occasionally, balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
    • sometimes, improvements in visual assets (contrast/colors);

    And if you report a ːhypnoheartː particularly good ːhypnoheartː bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio (coins not included, only the pins).

    UPDATE 11/05/2025

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    Fixed several typos in ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune. Languages affected: Russian (thanks, ːmagic_sparklesː Dasedfarg).

    ROADMAP

    We've edited a number of action cards, but these edits are not yet included in this week's update. We will roll them in during the coming week. A few will change the titles of the cards in English and/or in Russian – where one of the languages doesn't match the mechanics, or the concept, of the card (there are a few such cases, for example, one card is called "Propaganda" in all the languages except for English and CJK where it was translated as "Persuasion", and so on).

    We have agreed to add an option to "surrender" to the duel mode, when we have a chance to do it – it's not a huge thing for the losing player, who can even now simply leave the session, but it will help the winning player to save their time.

    When we switched off flavor texts on Telegrams of Misfortune in the game, we didn't do this in a couple of instances that you have since reported – we'll look into this in the coming weeks.

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback – since we continue to edit the rules to make them clearer. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

    [Team CO]

    PS

    We are days away from inviting the first 50 players to the Playtest of Sister of a Dragon, our new game that will participate in the Steam's Next Fest in June. The build is now approved by the Steam team, and we'll start the Playtest once we've ironed the tutorial a bit more.

    UPDATE 2025/05/05

    Good morning, dear friends :

    As you may know, throughout 2025 we have committed to releasing weekly updates for Gremlins, Inc. Such updates typically include a few quality of life improvements:

    • edits for card rules, to make them easier to understand;
    • fixing typos and missing values in some languages;
    • occasionally, balancing changes (thanks to the forum discussions);
    • sometimes, improvements in visual assets (contrast/colors);

    And if you report a :hypnoheart: particularly good :hypnoheart: bug which we can find and fix, then we will happily mail you a little package from our studio (coins not included, only the pins).

    UPDATE 2025/05/05

    The weekly update was delayed by a few days, as we spent the weekend re-writing a part of the core code because we – can you believe it? – have hit the C# assembly limits. This is the sort of prizes you get for updating a project that was created 10+ years ago ːmaliceː.

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    Fixed several typos in ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune. Languages affected: English, Russian, Chinese.

    Improved many unnatural line breaks in ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune and in action cards. Language affected: Japanese.

    USER INTERFACE

    Stopped displaying the flavor texts of ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune during the sessions, we now only display them in Gremlinopedia. This should make the game a bit less overwhelming for new players.

    Added a link to the protest forum on the Steam forums to the description of the Fair Play Rules in the game.

    ROADMAP

    We started prototyping a new format for ːtelegramː Telegrams of Misfortune, which should make them more integrated into the lore of the world, and which should fix the current gap between flavor texts and actual effects.

    Above you can see the first new Misfortune photograph, that illustrates a new story (which is based on one of the existing telegrams). Gone will be the different shapes, and the colors of the stamps, that often cause more confusion than clarity.

    We hope to update all of the Misfortunes by the end of this year, so that the board game edition of Gremlins, Inc. already gets these visuals; and once we have the whole set, we will update the video game just as well. It's a long process, we are at 2.5% of progress at this time.

    LANGUAGE EDITS

    We hope to finish updating the action cards by the end of May. Languages: English, Russian, Japanese, Chinese.

    If there are any misleading descriptions of the rules of the cards, we would love to receive your feedback – since we continue to edit the rules to make them clearer. Every rule that is made easier to grasp, increases the speed of the multiplayer sessions.

    [Team CO]

    PS

    We opened the sign-ups for Steam Playtest of our upcoming game, Sister of a Dragon, and we expect to submit the playtest build for the approval of Valve this week. Which means that we're now two steps away from giving you an opportunity to test our new creation.

    Initially, we will offer just the Challenges mode, which features a number of encounters that get progressively more difficult. We hope that the fact that you've mastered Gremlins, Inc. means you won't be scared by the different types of tokens with different activation rules and different power levels. Everything is simple, but it's the combination of the simple mechanics, that creates the tactical complexity of the situation.

    Anyways, the signup link looks like this green button on the game's page, if you're interested:
