GRID 2 Community Patch Now Live

We're pleased to announce the GRID 2 Community Update is now live and would like to thank all of our players who helped make it possible, below is a list of all the changes made in today's update.

Custom Playlist
Previously, when competing online via custom playlists, players would receive 50% of the XP and cash reward that would otherwise be received for a regular playlist game. This reduction is in place to help prevent players rigging up “easy to win” custom events to build XP/cash.

Following feedback from the community, the reward for competing via custom playlists has been raised.

Hardcore Playlist
Following feedback from the community, an additional playlist is being added.
Called “Hardcore”, this playlist will remove the use of flashbacks and turn on full mechanical damage. It will also prioritise race events around circuits.

Level Cap
Previously, online players could reach a maximum of level 30. We’ve been surprised at how many have hit this level cap, and following many requests we are raising the maximum online level to 99.

Fastest Lap Times
The addition of fastest lap times is something that has been requested a lot. We have therefore adapted the UI race results screen for online events, which will now display the fastest lap for each player along with all existing information.

New Liveries
Many players have requested additional liveries to use during online play. In response to this, we have made the single player AI liveries available for the player to select during online events.

Maximum Laps
We’ve heard a lot of feedback, especially from Clubs and Leagues, about the maximum number of laps you can set for an online race. As a result we’ve increased the maximum from 5 to 10.

Veto Weighting
Currently when trying to veto an event type or location, many are finding it difficult to get a passing vote. We’ve made some changes to the system, which now only requires 51% of the lobby to vote for a change to occur.

Country Flags
We know many players enjoyed this feature in the original GRID and, following much desire from the community, we have re-introduced this functionality. A player’s selected flag will now be displayed next to their name plate while racing and on the event results screen.

Clean Race Bonus
The amount of money rewarded for racing cleanly has been increased.

Vote to Kick
Players within a lobby will now be able to instigate a vote to kick option. This will ensure that everybody in the lobby has a say over who they race against, instead of just the host having the power to “kick” overly aggressive players.

Skip the Level up Graphic
We understand that not everybody wants to watch the ‘level up box’ at the end of each race and it will now be possible to skip this at the press of a button.

Mod Support
We’ve made some changes to the PC version of GRID 2 that will now allow users to mod the game.

Community Patch, an update

Work on the Community Patch has been progressing well and I'm pleased today to confirm that we're now at a point where it's in submission with first parties, so we thought it’d be a good time to update you on where we are, and where we’re going.

Due to the different platform timings for patch deployment we're currently estimating the following:

PC - End of the week commencing 19th August

As always, these timings are subject to change should any issues be found but this is THE PLAN.

So what about the content? It’s been put together from your feedback from playing the game since its release, so we really hope it improves everyone’s experience in the game. Let’s take a look…

We’ve had a lot of requests for this type of playlist – it removes the use of flashbacks and turns on full mechanical damage and will prioritise race events around circuits for a real test of racing.

Level Cap
Previously, online players could reach a maximum of level 30. We’ve been pleasantly surprised at how many of you guys have hit this level cap, so we are raising the maximum online level to 99.

Fastest Lap Times
The addition of fastest lap times is something that has come up a lot. We have therefore adapted the UI race results screen for online events, so it will now display the fastest lap for each player along with all the other existing information.

New Liveries
Many players have requested additional liveries to use during online play, so we’ve made the single player AI liveries available for you to select during online events.

Maximum Laps
We’ve heard a lot of feedback, especially from Clubs and Leagues, about increasing the maximum number of laps you can set for an online race. As a result we’ve raised it from 5 to 10.

Veto Weighting
Currently, when trying to veto an event type or location it can be difficult to get a passing vote. We’ve made some changes to the system, so it now only requires 51% of the lobby to vote for a change to occur.

Country Flags
We know many players enjoyed this feature in the original GRID and we’ve been made aware of how many of you guys wanted to see it return to GRID 2, so we have re-introduced this functionality. A player’s selected flag will now be displayed next to their name plate while racing and on the event results screen. Represent!

Clean Race Bonus
The amount of money rewarded for racing cleanly has been increased. Seems fair to us.

Vote to Kick
Players within a lobby will now be able to instigate a vote to kick option. This will ensure that everybody in the lobby has a say over who they race against, instead of just the host having the power to “kick” overly aggressive players.

Skip the Level up Graphic
Ok, so not everybody wants to watch the ‘level up box’ at the end of each race – it will now be possible to skip this at the press of a button.

Mod Support
We’ve made some changes to the PC version of GRID 2 that will now allow users to mod the game. We’re quite excited to be able to support the community in their endeavours here and you can find out more at the Codies Blog.

Valve Anti Cheat (VAC) coming to GRID 2

Just a brief update to let you know that we're currently in the progress of getting Valve Anti Cheat (VAC) enabled on the PC version of GRID 2.

We're currently making the required changes to the game and working with Valve to get everything in place. Once our testing is complete we'll be patching the PC version of the game soon and once complete will be looking at enabling VAC shortly after.

We're hoping this will be another step towards making your online experience a better one :)

Modding Support V1.0

When we bought you news of the Community Patch there was one item that wasn’t on the list but we’re pleased has made the deadline to be included. So I’m pleased to let you know that the patch will include a feature we hope you’re excited about... modding support.

We understand that there’s a talented, vibrant and creative modding community out there working on our past and current titles, whether it’s new custom liveries or various colours of tyre smoke and other creative endeavours, all accomplished without official support. These things don’t go unnoticed at Codies and the whole team enjoy seeing what you guys come up with.

Previously, some of our game's files were protected against modification. This was intended as a defence against cheating, mostly during online play, but also when setting lap times or earning achievements. When the modification of a protected file has been detected the game would disable online access, achievements and would also prevent any saving from occurring.

However, we understand that many mods are made with absolutely no intent of inconveniencing other players. These guys want to play the game in their own way, but as it stood the game would not save their progress if they were to modify a protected file.

So we’ve decided to assist these players by adding some basic support to the game that allows modified data and when enabled the game will now save your progress. Please note that the save file is separate to the one used by the unmodified game and online play, leaderboards, achievements and RaceNet functionality will all be disabled to protect the integrity of the main game.

This is our first step into supporting mods and it’ll be a learning process for us. So we’ll be looking to get your feedback along the way and we’ll make improvements over time where possible. When the tools are at your disposal, do let us know what you think. Above all else we look forward to seeing what you create. For further information, I’ve included a mini-
FAQ below..

Q) What about Steam Workshop?
A) No current plans but it is something we are discussing as our support for Modding continues.

Q) What formats will Mod support be on?
A) Mod support will be a PC only feature.

Q) When will mod support be enabled?

Q) Will there be a guide available to help get us started?

Feedback Discussion: User Interface and Menus

As part of our ongoing gathering of feedback this week I'd like to focus on the User Interface and menus within the game, what you liked, what you didn't like, did you ever get stuck and not know where to go, did something ever make you go "ooh nice", was everything clear? Literally anything you can think of would be great to hear.

I'm looking for as much feedback as possible so if you could share five minutes of your time to drop down your thoughts and feelings that would be greatly appreciated.
