ORION Loyalty Discount



Back in 2015 we decided to honor the backers with a failed crowdfunding and granted them rewards despite not receiving their funds. This sort of reflected the cycle that enveloped Guardians of Orion not only then but for years to come. While we wanted to add so much more and were willing to learn the knowledge or skills to deliver the opportunity never came.

Shortly after the release of 1.0 we knew things weren't in a good place for the product. We opened up with a transparent update to make the Community aware of this. We continued adding vast amounts of content based on the original Stretch Goals we wanted to deliver and piece by piece we started to get the infrastructure in there and this included things like Third Person, First Person, Gear, Loot, Inventory, New Guardians, Spaceships, New Modes.

It eventually came down to the point where we put up a Patreon to simply cover server costs, a campaign that also didn't succeed. In the end we tried as many things as we possibly could:

For all the people that keep asking or wanting more GOO1 stuff, so did and do we. There are only a few methods at this point and the largest ones are unfortunately nulled by the community around the game with things like the review bombs. I literally just had a huge deal break down simply over the reviews/comments. It's fine if they all genuinely feel that way but to expect me to be able to work a deal with that is not likely.

If GOO1 ever becomes self-sustaining we'd look at putting one or two developers on it to do some small things but otherwise key talent is now on other projects and the focus is keeping GOO1 around for all existing fans.

We appreciate all Orion fans who came out to support. We always will honor that support and this doesn't change going forward. There will be loyalty tier-based Discounts associated on future titles which DANKIE will be developing internally.

We are going to deliver what we initially wanted before the drama, the BS and before the bloated industry-related ambitions. I had made some bad hiring choices and some bad design choices and this product will hopefully help rectify that for me and also for fans of the first game. It is being built on brand new technology and will better support hardware and other platforms.
Mechanically, fundamentally and ethically GOO2 will be a night and day difference compared to GOO1. No loot crates, no micro transactions, no double currencies, no Early Access, no Crowdfunding and no online-focused infrastructure. It'll be a premium game that is privately produced and extremely polished at release.

We want to deliver this for fans of Guardians as we want something that lasts through time as we cannot control player counts and this is something we learned, understand and have factored into future projects. There will be a significant focus on Community Tools, SDK and fully offline-ready.

We expect to have Guardians of Orion 2 available for sale as early as summer 2019."

This is our only remaining community effort in order to generate awareness and gauge product performance for our sophomore title, Guardians of Orion. TL;DR If it makes and sustains money, v2.1 is very likely but if it continues to cost us money, v2.1 is not very likely.

[ UPDATED JAN 3 2018 ]
After careful consideration and product performance review we must inform that we will not be able to produce new content for Guardians of Orion beyond what is currently available (v2.058). We will continue to provide server and customer support for all ORION fans as we move to a purely administrative role.

As an independent developer we are supported fully by fans and product support. The reality is that Guardian of Orion was not supported to the point that we could continue extending post-release support beyond the investments we've already made unparalleled.

We are very proud of what we were able to achieve with Guardians of Orion, our most ambitious project to date. We want to thank everyone who did show up to support Guardians of Orion, both on Steam and its various crowdfunding attempts. We've learned a lot from this experience as to what works, what doesn't and the types of people and projects that we will be developing or investing in directly for the future.

1. FOCUS
Many aspects and variables have added up to as why we are choosing to and able to double-down. Ultimately it boils down to the fact that we believe in ORION and are excited for where it is headed.

We will be covering this in much more detail in upcoming weekly updates as we have made some big changes internally and for our upcoming development style. This includes a roster remastering and ensuring the right fit for the right roles. We've parted ways with some and had to make harder choices in the past with others. We wish them all the best and hope they will continue and choose to do great things. This will be covered in many Behind-The-Scenes with how we bring things to life, including:
Game Design, Production, Programming, Animation, Motion-Capture, Virtual Reality, Music Production & more!

We are very excited for ORION. Many familiar faces will be a part of this new production. With a few more responsibilities acquired across the board we will have much less chance at having any previous mistakes re-appear. This is of course better for ORION and us as all we like to do is: Build, Build, BUILD!


2. MIND
This pertains to what we involve ourselves in, directly or indirectly. We want to cheer the industry on, not segregate it. While this has always originated from a good place it ultimately ends up confrontational due to the black & white nature of it. Whether it is journalism or other games - we want other fan bases to be supported in ways we know they can. In the end we all want these games to succeed, we want them to come out and we want them to evolve with fan feedback.

So how this is changing is mentality. While we want fans to be taken care of accordingly, it is just not our place or responsibility. In this day and age there is so much information and access, whether it is about the game itself and what it is, what the experience is, reviews, Let's Plays - Fans have more tools than ever and are wise enough to make their own choices and investments. It is not our place to try and govern or protect that.

TL;DR
You will see a lot less political stuff and purely more games and behind-the-scenes developments.


3. RELEASE STYLE (2.0 series)
For Guardians of Orion EARLY ACCESS we were doing nearly monthly releases and updates, apart from one or two (1.6 and 2.0). We will be elongating this to further perfect, smooth out and ensure incredible releases going forward. Each release will also have a Beta that you may opt in to further help us find any anomalies and resolve.

Thanks for your feedback! Always love hearing what you all think. For v3.0 we're going to avoid this as it doesn't seem largely wanted and we'll continue on the areas already mentioned thus far. More announcements on the way and thanks to all who participated in feedback~


We are considering a new ("Custom") edition of ORION to coincide with v3.0 that would allow any owner of such to create a CUSTOM HELMET with the Developers.

( THE PROCESS )
This would be a very simple process where you would (1) Send 3 inspiration images and (2) we discuss it over with you directly and (3) Send you progress updates of an early mold, finished mold and then completed.

( DELIVERY )
The turn-around would likely be 3 months or less considering demand and supply. Would debut with v3 which is Fall 2018 at the earliest.

( COSTS )
This Custom Edition would be priced to match as it'd be a PRODUCTION item. Meaning a new digital item would be produced with each purchase. It would have to fully cover the cost of
• The digital helmet itself.
• Factor in all the royalty splits
• Still make us a bit on top to throw back into game production (and eat).

( PRICING )
We are talking $$$$$+ and with that window of time and how efficiently we can produce them it should level out nicely in that regard.

( SUPPLY & DEMAND )
Of course if there is increased demand that'd create jobs for new artists and more support for the game itself and new features.

#1 - WHAT DOES IT MEAN BY HOSTILE TERRITORY?
Many things are subject to change over the course of v3.0 production, but WarGames will be transitioning from a PvP to PvE and dogfighting is planned in other areas and scenarios, possibly including between surface regions!

This includes revisiting systems, module relationships and mechanics to include and compensate for all the new technology and features to make them as accessible as possible!

This includes remastering both WarGames and Mayhem as PvE experiences while we prepare and hopefully get to integrate a *significantly* improved PvP module that we have designed/planned.

"Hostile Territory" displays a new idea we have for dogfighting which would utilize the Open World (and other specific areas) that would allow players to engage in Dynamic Battles between Exploration & Missions.

It is all about finding the right balance of speed & space to make it viable for players who *WANT* PvP battles to remain in those cool areas, but to also make them avoidable enough for players who *DON'T*.

We showed this off via the video above in a complete region transition between RELIC & HAVEN where the dogfighting route is a long, linear canyon (HOOD CANYON) route and you can easily visually follow that to engage in combat OR you can quickly simply cut through it and hop to the region, *especially* with a thruster or booster.

#2 - WILL THERE BE A FUEL OR REPAIR SYSTEM?
This is still subject for debate, but if these elements *do* work their way in it'll be a very minor focus.

For example, ALL Starships are subject to having basic functionality that allows them to travel within Solar Systems and to and from Planets/Moons/Regions.

The only time fuel would likely be factored is if we get to the point of adding OTHER Star Systems (like ours) or other Alien ones. This would likely cost ION to travel that distance at that speed. It also may come into effect for quick-travel (menu-based within systems) at the cost of a bit of ION.

If we ever did repairs it'd either be menu-based (like applying points in the Skill Tree) OR would be a quick fly-through -- think something along the lines of Burnout Paradise repairs where you quickly pull off at intended areas.

#4 - AS LONG AS I GET SPLIT-SCREEN FIRST PERSON I AM GOOD... OTHERWISE IT'S ALREADY AN AMAZING GAME!
We have plans for Offline evolution, including new experiences that utilize: Ships, Top-Down, Third-Person and First-Person. Another Module/Feature we are very excited for is the Campaign which is also in FPS, and would be after the Open World/Galaxy technology is in place (to make use of).

#5 - STILL MISS GOOD OLD LANDING VIA JUMPING FROM A DROPSHIP?
Dropships are scheduled to return! They will first re-debut via Drone Defense PvE by delivering aggressive Robots that want to destroy you. We also have plans of having a choice-based landing sequence from a variety of options including Pod, Dropship, Starship and more!

#6 - I WANT THIS GAME IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, LIKE: FRENCH, SPANISH AND GERMAN... PLEASE!

#8 - ARE WE STILL GOING TO NEED TO HOARD ION CHUNKS AS A MEANS OF FUEL?
The most important (scheduled) upcoming use for ION Chunks is currently to be the Celestial Module. If we do incorporate ION Chunks towards Vehicle Fuel it would likely be an extremely minor focus, apart from QuickTraveling between Star Systems and high energy things like BEAMING/WARPING.

#9 - I THOUGHT ION PROVIDED UNLIMITED FUEL?
According to lore theory yes that is possible! But it's an energy that has to be renewed. The beautiful thing about ION is the amount of energy it can store and the fact/rate at which it can replenish.

#10 - YOU SHOULD MAKE IT SO WHEN YOU GO OUT OF THE ATMOSPHERE YOU GAIN MORE SPEED SO YOU CAN TRAVEL TO OTHER PLANETS EASIER.
Lots of this is just intention or placeholder at best. We will likely modify many aspects including transitional speeds. We will also be adding many new elements, including: Atmospheric Effects, Hull Burning, Particle Effects, Camera Splines and so much more. It'll look far more impressive than what is depicted in this video.

#11 - SINCE IT IS OPEN WORLD, DOES THAT MEAN NO LOBBY? HOW WILL MULTIPLAYER WORK IF THERE IS NO LOBBY?
We will be going into more detail about how we are bringing this to life as we progress through the production and share Behind The Scenes like we did approaching the v2.0 release. We are very excited to share this process with you!

The short answer is there will still be Lobbies but you'll be able to join them just as you do now, whether Solo or with a group of friends via a Party.

We also will make use of the Open World/Open Galaxy Technology with the planned (Offline) Campaign.

#12 - SO LONG AS I CAN TRAVEL IN SPACE FROM THE GROUND LIKE NO MAN'S SKY IT'S ALL GOOD, I HATE HOW GAMES FORCE YOU TO CUTSCENES TO SPACE, I'D RATHER DO IT MYSELF?
We totally agree! While we will likely be starting the first phase with a locked in-game/in-engine transition we DO hope to open that up to Player-based Free-Flight for the transition over time and with support!

#13 - LOOKS A BIT LIKE NO MAN'S SKY WITHOUT ALL OF THE ROCK COLLECTING, ROCK COLLECTING AND MORE ROCK COLLECTING. GREAT TO HAVE A LORE-FRIENDLY REASON TO USE THOSE SPACESHIPS
While our primary focus will be ADVENTURE< EXPLORATION, MISSIONS & TRAVEL - We would like to add secondary-objectives over time in order to fill gaps and maximize pacing. Including the ability to have features such as Player Housing & Mining. We are open to additional community-based requests and look forward to seeing all the suggestions!

Transportation is just the beginning! We'd love to add a ton of content to this as we are building the technology and framework "Sandbox" to eventually house features such as Hoverbikes, Mechs, Mining, Dueling, Missions, NPC's, PvP and many more things we'd love to add.

#16 - HUMAN ENEMIS? SCAVENGERS WOULD BE VERY COOL TO FIGHT!
This is planned! We want to add a ton of NPC's and A.I life to the game. W e hope to make Social Hubs such as Orbital Command much more lively over time with humans, drones and aliens that come and go based on months.

We've already designed hundreds of critical characters and brought to life over a dozen (check the 4min mark of the video).

Another faction that is planned for addition are the Murdocke Mercenary Forces. These are human Special Forces groups that would patrol many regions. We also have plans for Bounty Hunters that you can utilize to put wages (for example 5,000 Credits) on the heads of fellow Guardians.

IF we get to add other Solar Systems (including ours with Earth) there would be room for actual Scavenger and Rebel types and that would be very exciting to visit Earth during the Orion game time lime:

#17 - SINCE YOU'LL BE ABLE TO ACCESS REGIONS WITH SPACESHIPS,
DOES THAT MEAN YOU'LL REVAMP THE "START GAME" HOLOGRAM TABLES??

That is the plan! We have many new methods of integration for you to hop to and from location and gameplay experience. Just as you had suspected there *IS* an advanced form of BLINKING called BEAMING and it is basically the same thing but just very long distance and high energy count.

#18 - PERSONALLY I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE GAMEPLAY MODULES, ESPECIALLY MECHS
Those are some of our most wanted features as well. With larger expanses come the greater need for vehicles to take you to and from location. These modules pave the way for new Spaceships, Hoverbikes, Mechs & more!

In fact we have an area on Luna 2 (same moon that Orbital Command is on, just a different region, called "ALPHA BASE" that is actually partially developed and a nice open surface intended for Player (Moon) Base creations!


The main focus area of Version 3.0 will be Open World and Open Galaxy gameplay.

However it'll also include many other critical and massive updates including brand new content and areas of remastered existing content. The level of evolution will be more drastic from 2.0 to 3.0 than it was from 1.0 (Early Access) to 2.0. That is saying a lot as 1.0 was a Top-Down only shooter with 3 Guardians and 3 Maps - compared to 9 Guardians, 30+ Maps and 3+ Perspectives!
