Our first game, ORION: Prelude was a 5 year development cycle. We have discussed in the past how we want Guardians of Orion to be a 10 year development cycle for everything we'd love to accomplish. However this is only one part of the pie as this is our willingness to re-invest, learn, master and deliver. This is all an energy that has to run off of a fuel which is fan support as an independent game developer. This is all up to you! So whether we get 2 years or 10 years is up to you, we want the 10 :)

Discussing The Future Of Guardians
We are a small indie developer and as such we develop and self-publish our own games. The products only have the operational budgets that fans submit via support. There are many things we'd love to add or do that is not up to us.

Guardians of Orion was officially released March 2017. Both Orion games are marked as complete and any future content is purely based on the support that the product receives. The more support we receive the more we can give.
We've held three crowdfunding campaigns (1=pre-production in 2014, 2=production in 2015, 3=post-production in 2016) and all three were not supported. We've held a infrastructure crowdfunding model via Patreon and this also was not supported. We've held a variety of Steam Events, Competitions, Promotions and Sales to generate awareness and support. These have not delivered.
Despite the lack of backing we've self-financed the product regardless. This included the Early Access release in Dec 2015 (top-down only) and all subsequent content updates that lasted all through 2017 and then into 2017 which delivered the official release. This included many things, but notably crafting, inventory, loot, gear, progress, spaceships combat, third person modes, first person modes and many more Guardians.
All future content is based on support received, just like Prelude before it. The more support we get, the more we can deliver. Because of this Prelude is on Year 4 or 5 of free post-release support.
Otherwise we're gearing up towards new productions and we've made the required changes to avoid any developer-related relapses going forward and are very excited about our next production.
If you like the game, share it and spread it. We actively play and showcase the game nearly on a daily basis and provide many opportunities for new gamers to experience the game through pricing models and giveaway events. Regardless, both Orion games only require 2 people for an intended experience (and up to 4 or 5 for a FULL game) so it should always be relatively easy to create games for any of you out there ;)
And don't forget, nearly every edition of ORION (Prelude & Guardians) is celebrating a Steam Sale so now is a great time to own it or upgrade.

Server Improvements

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK!
We started receiving user reports late Wednesday evening (4/12/2017) regarding issues pertaining to server loading or connectivity, lagely regarding Inventories, Currencies or Levels. After replicating the issue on our end we began an immediate investigation and contacted all appropriate partners. Luckily the problem is going to be resolved and we've some information to share!
All of your Items, Currency and Levels are OK. They are still on the backend, registered and SAFE. If you're not seeing anything it is 100% a visual-only error. Do not stress, nothing was lost!
THE NITTY GRITTY
The server that some of these games were on ran a few instances that first day it was on, and then for some reason, rebooted. Doing so put it into an Unavailable state. Our server backend partner has terminated it at this point so it's been cleaned up now. Our backend partner is currently working on a new update that will kill any server that does this so it will be prevented fully in the future.
To address this in the immediate our server backend partner has increased the rate for our title meaning there aren't currently any failure cases right now. If there are, please report it to us immediately and we will have them investigate. They are actively monitoring and updating.
REGARDING INVENTORY-LOAD ISSUES
They have detecting occassional read-throttling in the backend due to extremely large inventories and grants of large numbers of items - AKA LOOT! This is because of how they process it which favors predictability and safety over response time. This will affect larger inventories and in extreme cases it will add latency for loading. This will be entirely true for anyone with stackables in high amounts.
SOME SOLUTIONS
To address these issues in the immediate they have increased our throttle rate to help compensate. They have additional optimizations that they are scheduled to roll out this week to help reduce it even further.
