Hands of Necromancy Gets an Update, Hands of Necromancy II Gets a Release Date!
Greetings Everyone, Today we have two major announcements for you:
1) Hands of Necromancy has received an update!
V3.0 of the game brings many quality of life improvements, various bug fixes, and most importantly, support for new languages: French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian - the full changelog is available at the end of this article.
Due to the extent of the changes, old save files are not compatible with the new version. We recommend everyone to start a new playthrough, but if you wish to continue your pre-update saved games, you can. In the list of games on the left-hand side of your Steam client library, right-click on Hands of Necromancy, select "Properties" and "Betas" - from the drop-down menu next to "Beta Participation", pick the option "legacy_saves", wait for an update to finish, and you will be back in the previous version of the game, with your old saves fully playable.
The day has come and we can now share with you that Hands of Necromancy II will launch on September 16, 2024. Are you looking forward to the new story, the option to choose between two playable characters, new abilities, weapons and enemies to slaughter? Then go ahead and wishlist the game now, so you don't miss its release - and let's watch the trailer together now:
Items now provide descriptions of their effects upon pickup.
Introduced a game launcher to resolve crash issues in HoN1 by allowing users to select a different video backend.
The font was modified and is more readable now.
HP bars and names can now be displayed for enemies, bosses, mini-bosses, and players.
Some ammo items were reworked and all the ammo items are now animated.
Renamed "Easy" hub mode to "Classic Hub: Action".
Renamed "The Classic Mapset" to "Classic Hub: Exploration".
Added support for new languages: French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.
Increased the damage of the primary fire for the Ring of Ice and the Scythe (excluding burning damage).
Altered the alt-fire of unholy grenades to now ignite on the ground, causing high damage.
Most player attacks, including the Wyvern fireball, no longer cause self-damage.
The Fireball Staff's ALT attack now costs 3 ammo.
Reduced the HP of the Undead Dragon and the final boss.
Revive system improvements: Monsters now follow the player and teleport to their location.
Players can now walk through minions, who no longer cause friendly fire.
Resolved various map issues.
Increased ammo availability in the first map of the main game and the expansion.
Modified player death sounds.
Implemented numerous engine updates, including many features from GZDoom 4.13, and added VkDoom's revamp to accelerate rendering as an option.
Implemented a "forced-perspective" system which is used to allow for projectiles to exist in the sky briefly instead of hitting it, and also renders monster's feet under the ground without clipping them.
This should make the game more likely to startup properly on Mac OS.
Expansion now live
- A few minor fixes - Expansion is now available for all players
2.1.0 "Easy Hubs" update
"The "Easy Hubs" mode of Hands of Necromancy is now live! If you want focus less on an exploration hexen-like but something closer to heretic/doom, this mode is for you, in each of the 4 maps of the hubs, you have 1 key to find, once you get all the 4 keys, you go back to the hub to open the exit to the next map! Progression is more linear in that way except you choose the first map you want to play in the hubs!"
Easy Exploration mode available!
The Easy Exploration mode is available on the Beta Branch of the game, you have to choose "Beta" and redownload the game.
The "Easy Hubs" mode is made for people who want to spend more their time at shooting, you have to play a map 1 time (or more if you want explore it again to get items), there is 4 keys per hub (not 6) and each map of the hubs has 1 key to find, once you get the 4 keys, you can come back to the hub last portal and leave the hub. No more lot of come back to do to finish the hubs.
Transformations items are in the maps where you need them to finish the map. It's like a linear progression but with a hub where you can choose the order of the maps.
In the "Classic Hubs" mode, its the original game mode, you will have to do some come back in the maps to open the doors who are locked with a key who can be in another map. This mode is for people who want also focus on exploration.
A new music released: "Caves of Terror" at The Earthen Depths.
Hands of Necromancy v2.0 released!
Hands of Necromancy version 2.0 is released!
• Adds a new third attack for the monster morphs! (default key: F) • Adds an alt-fire for all the other weapons • New weapon animations by BeardedDoomGuy • Fixes and improvements • Some balance changes • Weapon Hint System - when first selecting a new weapon, or when using a new morph, the game now tells you what keys to press to engage each available weapon function. (This also serves as a hint to bind your third attack key, as it will let you know if it's unbound!) • "give morphs" is now a valid cheat command • Ambient Sounds added • "Classic" mode has been removed - if you wish to play HoN classic it has been moved to a beta branch
Version 2.0 is in the works, our plans going forward
Hello!
The game is receiving a major balance rework that adds a lot of new functions and attacks for the players, which will be labeled Version 2.0.
Since this update will fundamentally change many aspects of the game, we will be splitting the current version off into a branch called "Hands of Necromancy Classic" which will be based upon the current version (1.5.3).
Version 2.0 will not have the "Classic Mode" that the current version has - since it is staying true to its own ways we felt that a branching would be better to handle going forward than maintaining a feature that no longer makes sense.
HoN Classic will still receive engine updates and bug fixes but will no longer get any new improvements or features or content.
Our focus will primarily be on the new HoN 2.0 going forward.
Hands of Necromancy v1.5.3 mini-patch released!
• GZDoom engine updates, mostly fixing the shell folder open. Now works the same on all platforms and should be more secure. • Sword is now flagged as a melee weapon for mods/bots that need access to this info
