We know you’ve been eagerly awaiting news about the game and its development, so we’ve decided to keep you in the loop with regular updates. And today’s news is absolutely on fire!

We’re thrilled to announce a brand-new mechanic that will spice up the gameplay significantly! You’ll not only be smashing heads and swinging your katana, splattering blood on the floors and walls, but you’ll also have the chance to build romantic relationships with your favorite heroes. Get ready for new emotions, intriguing dialogues, and a ton of unexpected twists!

Now you can develop relationships with each character in the game. Leon is finally free🍉, which means he can unleash his passion and inner fire! Let your desires run wild and choose the perfect (or maybe not-so-perfect) partner for him., which means he can unleash his passion and inner fire! 💞 Affection Level





Your relationships with the heroes will grow through an affection level system. You can boost it using various methods:

  • Compliments: Make sweet remarks about a hero’s looks or talents. For example, you could compliment the captain of the guard on his muscles or his sharpshooting skills—right in the middle of battle! Who knows, he might reconsider killing you!
  • Gifts: Collect unique items and give them to your sweethearts. Some might appreciate a shiny new blade, others a severed enemy head, etc. Everything goes!
  • Actions: Join in on quests together, fulfill their wishes, and spend quality time side by side.

👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 Multiple Endings


Your choices will matter! Depending on your affection level and decisions, you’ll unlock several endings.



Some enemies might switch sides, some may offer minor assistance, while others will gleefully mock you (it’s hard to talk about healthy relationships in this atmosphere). So go ahead—choose, play, love, hate, and enjoy every moment spent in HEART ABYSS!

🦄 New Skins and Locations


To make your romantic adventures even more vibrant and unforgettable, we’ll be adding special skins for Leon and unique locations (if you catch our drift).


These will unlock as you develop your relationships with characters. After all, winning over some of them might require a bit of role-playing—and more!

❤️‍🔥How Will It Work?


All actions to increase affection levels will be available for Hearts—our in-game currency. You can earn them by tearing them from enemies’ chests or purchase them for real money. This gives you the freedom to choose how quickly you want to develop your relationships.

We’re confident that this new dating mechanic will add even more passion and craziness to HEART ABYSS while allowing you to explore your darkest desires. Get ready for romantic adventures, unexpected plot twists, and unforgettable encounters!

Fresh (and Not So Fresh) Meat in HEART ABYSS! Who Will You Take Down First?

It’s time for the latest updates from the development of HEART ABYSS! Yes, we’re still alive and kicking, working hard on the game, and it’s set to be released (when? In due time!).

Leon’s enemy ranks are growing with new characters, each more dangerous than the last. Each one comes with their own unique attacks and fighting style, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy battling them. So, let’s meet them!

Kibishi Fukku



“This piece of meat will make a fine addition to my collection!”



Even among slavers, dark rumors swirl about them. They say they know neither pain nor fatigue, and their only passion is to break others' bones.

Kibishi Fukku are overseers of the Mines, their lives long since dissolved in the toxic fumes of the dungeons. Their bodies are a grotesque mix of the living and the decayed, bound in filthy bandages soaked in sweat, blood, and malice.

In their hands, they wield kusarigama, weapons for those who prefer to fight dirty and without sentiment. One swing, and the chain wraps around your neck. One tug, and you’re lying at their feet, while the rusted blade prepares to carry out the last amputation of your life.

“Have you ever seen a club this big? It’s Kanabo! AHAHAHAHA!”



What could be better than smashing someone in the face? Hitting them with an incredibly huge club! These guys don’t bother with tactics, elegance in battle, or any of that nonsense for the weak. They’re armed with kanabo—a mace designed not for victory, but for annihilation. One hit, and you’ll become part of the landscape.

Do you have a plan? Think you can dodge? Imagine a mountain of muscle charging at you, swinging a club that weighs more than you do.

Don’t be a hero. Just sidestep and pretend you were never here.

Zombie



“MVHmhmmhmMHmhmhmMHmhmMH”



The mines cut through the Smoky Mountains from peak to the rotten core. The deeper you go, the heavier the darkness presses down, the stench clings to your skin, and the air thickens into a viscous shroud.

The light fades. The stone walls close in. And if you dare descend even further into the oldest shafts, where even the rats pretend they don’t exist, you’ll find the Sump.

This place is the last stop for all the “non-humans” toiling in the mines. Their bodies plummet downward, mixing with filth and waste.

But sometimes, it seems that someone refuses to remain trash. Something stirs among the rotting debris.

Don’t stare too long into the darkness. If it realizes you’re watching—it will glare back. And the empty eye sockets of a risen corpse are the last thing you want to see in this life.

Results of the Creative Contest! And a Valentine’s Card❤️

Last week, we announced a contest where you had to come up with a name for our new enemy, affectionately known as ““Pudge.”

After careful discussion, we decided on the name Kibishi Fukku (from Japanese: 厳しいフック), which means “Tough Hook.” It sounds great, and we love it!

In our last post, we introduced you to our new enemy, who has been affectionately dubbed “Pudge” in the backchannels of our work chats. Just a reminder, he’s armed with a sharp hook that he flings around with flair, pulling Leon closer for a hefty smack!



But, as you can imagine, he can’t go by “Pudge,” so…

It's hammer time! Level editor, new enemy, and more news

Hello everyone!

The year 2024 is coming to a close. It’s been a challenging yet productive year for our team. Despite the hurdles, we’ve made significant progress on the game’s development. While the release is still a way off, we’re steadily moving forward.



Brief summary of the year:



  • Added a host of new gameplay features, inspired by some games and anime. (You’ll see what we mean on release!)
  • Began work on a new game level, the Mines, introducing fresh enemies and weapons.
  • Updated the art style for backgrounds and environments, and improved the lighting.
  • Introduced new enemies: Shadow Warriors, a Warrior with a Naginata, and Hammerman.
  • Rewrote the game’s story and lore.
  • Implemented new mechanics, including a healing system for the protagonist.
  • Conducted an open playtest and gathered invaluable feedback. Thanks to everyone who participated!
  • Released a demo built on a new engine, featuring updated mechanics, features, and graphics.
  • Launched a new game mode called “Fever,” where players must complete the demo within a set time.
  • Translated the game into English (and we plan to add more languages).
  • Increased the project’s wishlist count and visibility, thanks to your incredible support and belief in us!


We’re committed to delivering the game as soon as possible. Now, let’s dive into the latest updates.

Level Editor


Creating levels and arenas in Godot wasn’t easy, so we built an in-engine level editor to streamline the process. While it’s still being finalized and tested, we’re already loving it and plan to include it in the release.



We hope to integrate Steam Workshop in the future, allowing you to create and share your own custom campaigns!

New Enemy — “a pudge”


In the Mines, Leon will face a unique new enemy—a ‘pudge’. What does he do? He hooks Leon and pulls him in. What happens next? We’re still testing! Maybe he smacks Leon around. Maybe something more devious.



The name for this character is still under development. Feel free to share your suggestions in the comments!

Leon's New Weapon: The Hammer


Leon’s new weapon in the Mines is a hammer (for those who forgot, he previously used a sword). With the hammer, you can knock enemies into the ground with a jump and smash them like skittles for devastating effects.



We’re considering designing the hammer in the style of a traditional Kanabo (金棒) to fit the Japanese setting. Got ideas? Share them in the comments!

What About the Release?



We’ll be honest.

After reviewing the demo’s results, we realized we weren’t entirely satisfied. While most players enjoyed it, some noted a lack of combat variety by the end. Adding more weapons and enemies could address this, but we want every battle to feel electrifying and leave players craving more.

To achieve this, we’ve reworked the combat system extensively—and we’re thrilled with the results! Development continues step by step, and we hope the release will be SOON™.

We’re excited for what’s to come and will share more updates about the game’s development more frequently.

New mode for the demo, optimization, and bug fixes

Hello everyone!

Thanks to everyone who played the demo and sent feedback. It's very valuable for our team and helps us refine and improve the game.

We have prepared a small update, which includes:

  • New “Fever” mode, where you have to complete the demo in a certain amount of time;
  • Fixing several bugs;
  • Additional optimization;
  • Fixing the collision of the dash strike;
  • New dialogues;
