Hedon

1.5.0 Is Out! And a New Episode is in Development

ATTENTION! You must manually perform the update. As usual, it comes with a newer version of the GZDoom Engine, as well as tweaks for each and every map, which causes old saves to become incompatible. For this reason, auto-updating is off and must be performed manually, preferably via a clean reinstall.

Also in line with Hedon's other patches, this is aimed at new players and players who want to start fresh runs. If you're in the middle of some progress, you have little reason to perform this update until you're done with your current playthrough.

Alternatively, you can manually select levels and restore your gear. See how HERE.

1.5.0 IS HERE

The update that changes Hedon's starting experience is finally out! Enjoy a whole new short starting area coming with a much more organic introduction to the mechanics and lore of the game, as well as some proper head-on action!

You can find the changelog HERE.

This took a while to make, primarily because it required me to first work on assets that were destined for the second chapter of the game. Second chapter? Yep, it's officially in development, thanks to my amazing Patreon supporters!

That's where I will be posting sneak peeks, closed beta builds and updates from now on, so keep an eye out for it. Also don't forget that I now have a Twitter account, where I will also post news from time to time.

Thanks a lot for playing and for showing interest in Hedon this far! Stay tuned!

Hedon Update 1.4.0 - Go Bearzerk!

NOTE: In order to update you'll have to do a clean reinstall (this means losing your saved games). You can restore your progress manually via console commands, read about it here.

A new big update is here, bringing lots of improvements as well as the fresh Bearzerk difficulty - which radically changes Hedon's combat!

On top of this, Trading Cards, Badges, Emoticons and Backgrounds are finally here too!

Here's a quick overview of this update:
- Hedon now runs on a GZDoom 4.1.3 engine fork "hGZDoom" with few quality of life improvements and Hedon-specific setting menus (otherwise it's 99.999% GZDoom);
- New Bearzerk difficulty that removes access to guns and instead gives the player new melee weapons for the ultimate close combat challenge!
- Various map improvements and adjustments, including further optimization for Map10;
- Improved graphics, animations and sounds for all the weapons;
- New Quick Kick attack;
- New blood cloud gore effects and various other enemy improvements and changes.

So what are you waiting for? Update, and get hacking and slashing!
(And remember, you need to do a clean reinstall for it to update properly!)

Version 1.3.2 is Up

WARNING: This update is meant for new players or players who want to start a fresh run. It mostly changes Map01 to make it more accessible based on the feedback I've received after this first release week. Remember that updating the game ruins your previous saved games, so think twice before you do it (also, the next big update will contain new stuff to warrant a replay, so wait until then if you've already completed Map01).
General changelog & how to update here.

Thanks to everyone who has given feedback, reviews and bug reports so far! Here's what this update does more specifically:

Map01:
- Tutorial tips overhaul to make them more compact and on point;
- Item placement modification to reduce certain confusion;
- Broken switch to the Mining Outpost has been moved to the elevator in front, to make it easier to remember and see when backtracking;
- Added few new props to act as visual landmarks in the cave;
- The door next to the Iron Key has been modified to look less like something the key would open, and reduce confusion again;
- The path between the Water Cave and Dura's Office is now open from the get go - this will allow the player to loop back if they decide to explore after obtaining the Power Core, and reduce the apparent importance of the waterfall gate's crystal device;
- After obtaining the second Power Crystal, Crawlers break the shutter and enter the Mining Outpost, signalling the way towards the exit;
- Initiates now appear in the later half of the map on all difficulties;

Map02:
- Turned off the chandelier in the Library to create more darkness and left a single light by the scribe table to put more visual focus on it;
- Removed some light crystals from the path leading up to the Magic Ward, replacing it with more purple light that makes it visible from further away and draws attention to it as an important location;
- Reduced the light from the Guard Office and put a stronger light in the cell with the wall crack to make it draw more attention (also added a broken pickaxe by the wall so it better signals what has to be done);
- Cerberi now appear in the later part of the map on all difficulties;

Map03:
- Moved some lights around the Iron Key room to better draw the player's sight to it as they pass by;
- Added two Iron Maidens on all difficulties;

Map05:
- Moved and added some lights to point out important spots;
- The Librarian's corpse now has a blood trail pointing towards the hidden book switch;

Map06:
- Added a trick to skip the "cinematic" part for people who want subsequent playthroughs without going through the story again - see more details here;

Map07:
- Made some slight changes to help with the hidden Bag of Holding optional;

Map08:
- Added some extra textures to make the gate levers of the fort barbican stand out more;
- Added a smoke generator for when the Forge Elemental blows up the Temple's roof, to signal the player that they can now access it.
