HotFix 1.5.16

Hello Citizens!

Here we are with the latest HotFix Update for Hell is Others!
Before looking at the other fixes, just a few words about one of the most important parts of the Update: the new duos design. You have pointed out several times the problem of the unreadable "companions" during your games. We decided to solve this by changing some of the rules related to duos:


  • The Other partner has a blu area at its feet to differentiate it from enemies.
  • We also make it possible to extract two players from the same lift if they are part of the same team.

We’ll check your feedback to know if this new design matches your expectations!



We’ve also worked on a bunch of bugs and problems that you have pointed out to us! Here’s the full list:


  • Fixed a bug where players got blocked (so they cannot continue the story) closing the game right after talking with Isolde during Act II;
  • Fixed a bug where players can skip Alfred's mandatory dialogues if they go to sleep with a perishable item in the inventory, causing the player to be stuck during the story;
  • Fixed the bug that caused the player to not have the updated map (the player stayed with the tutorial map);
  • Fixed an issue on reconnection in case of a player in a party;
  • Fixed a bug that caused some rewards to disappear from quests with modified bullets as rewards;
  • We made prestige paintings priceless in order to make the story progression fairer.

Hell is Others: Keys, calibers and Other Things is out now!

Hello, Citizens!

We are very proud to finally give you the greatest and biggest update in the history of Hell is Others: Let’s immediately dive into the specifics of all the new content that will flood the game!



Other Thing



So, first things first: without a doubt, one of the biggest news is the introduction of the Other Thing. It is a brand new enemy and is undoubtedly the toughest and most aggressive of all the opponents encountered in the City so far.



We have devised some features to achieve this goal:

  • Moves on the terrain, so differently from the Things, all the gadgets like mines or Molotov can be used against it;
  • Uses the senses like the Others to actively hunt you instead of randomly wandering around;
  • Triggers your Heartbeat like the Others when near;
  • Can be killed to complete quests that require Others
  • It has a search mode and a follow mode... You'll see what it means soon enough.



Key system


Another addition is the key system, and so, from now on, you’ll find different kinds of keys that will open different kinds of containers, and you’ll have to fight over them with the best players on the server! We created a new safe slot just for the keys.




Calibers



The other big addition to the game is without a doubt calibers: from now on, there’ll be different bullets for different weapons. Obviously, we updated the shops to sell the right calibers!



Package



We also implemented a new random loot package that appears in the open spaces of the City: from now on, you’ll find loot also in the most peripheral parts of our beloved town!



Changes



We’ve also worked on some changes. Here’s the full list:

  • We’ve rebalanced all weapons, to make sure that all of them feel useful;
  • We’ve updated the patrimony quest requirement to 2 million (from 3M);
  • We’ve updated the "pay for the bonsai" quest requirement to 500k (from 1M);
  • Now there’s a button to show credits from the login menu;
  • We’ve created a spawn animation for Things;
  • We tuned the Things' behavior to move towards the position of the shooter rather than just turning in the direction of the hit;
  • Now bullets casings are ejected when shooting;
  • When the player dies, a corpse will spawn, and it will contain all of their belongings;
  • Other's death is now marked permanently on the map with a bloodstain;
  • We added Bloodflowers Wallpaper.


Fixes


There are a whole lot of fixes coming your way. Here is the complete list, based on the subject that we fixed:

Things



  • Fixed Hiding Things not being able to receive fire damage;
  • Fixed blinded Hiding Thing not attacking the player once the blindness was over in certain circumstances;
  • Fixed Things spawning too close to the players;
  • Fixed Unstable Things not getting triggered by impacting throwables;
  • Fixed issue with Things not showing the correct loot in the journal;
  • Fixed a bug causing the Things to not emit any sound in certain conditions.


Hub



  • Fixed bug allowing to close the editor without essential items being placed;
  • Fixed situation where placing a door was wrongly prevented;
  • Fixed safe deposit getting counted for perishable items when going to sleep;
  • Fixed "Together is better" trophies tier 2 and 3 not playing the music when active;
  • Fixed bug causing Adam's dialogue to trigger when pressing ESC in the menu while carrying the bonsai;
  • Fixed bug allowing to open the basement while in the engine room;
  • Fixed bug allowing the player to close the hub editor while having a floor with no door but with pieces of furniture in it.


Inventory



  • Fixed dropping items from a stack pulling from the first stack regardless of the one being clicked;
  • Fixed items in the Pocket and Keychain not being taken into account for the estate calculation;
  • Fixed catalog of junk not discovering items carried home in the pocket when dying.


Achievements



  • Fixed "Number 1" and "Heartbreaker" achievements not being updated if Old Coin or Other's hearts were brought home in the pocket;
  • Fixed Homerun achievement not getting updated when killing a level 1 Thing.


Prestige



  • Fixed level 4 prestige awarding a duplicate golden Miss Rosebud skin instead of the platinum skin;
  • Fixed prestige sometimes not awarding the prize paintings;
  • Fixed prestige not updating the GlobalScore leaderboard after the fifth prestige. It now supports up to 21 prestiges;
  • Fixed prestige skins not showing in the weapon wheel.


Misc



  • Fixed health rounding error causing the players to be able to stay alive with 0 HP. Happened mostly when running out of time in the city;
  • Fixed Adam's animation getting stuck on the last frame when using a consumable from the containers;
  • Fixed golden objects spawning in the greenhouse drawers during the tutorial, breaking the tutorial progression;
  • Fixed wrong footsteps volume modifiers for different movement types;
  • Fixed steam players not being able to re-login after a logout;
  • Fixed navigation in the bestiary;
  • Fixed game panels still being responsive while having the bug reporter opened;
  • Fixed pressing L after entering a match with the Referral Notification open threw an exception;
  • Fixed player being able to see the Others' health bar when blinded.

Today we return with a rich news devlog! We have a lot to talk about: first, we’ll show you what we want to bring in the future of Hell is Others; secondly, we’ll tell you what happened on the game Discord server!

Other Things


Regarding the game, we’re introducing the Other Thing, which represents a new level of challenge for the game: we're trying to match the difficulty level of an encounter with another player. With this new enemy, we’re also allowing players that wants to focus on PVE to be able to complete the game without having to kill other players.

We designed the Other Thing to be a great menace even for very skilled and veteran players. It is made in the image of the Others, and you’ll learn in time that it has a different set of skills compared to the Things that you can encounter in the game.

We can make you imagine the direction we want to take with a small but terrifying image:

But in the future of Hell is Others there’s not only this enemy, but also some tasty additions that we think can give something more to your experience. Right now we are working on a key system and the bullet calibers!

Keys system


As for the key system, we decided to implement it because we noticed that you tend to use the same looting strategies, due to the fact that the Century City map never changes.
Plus, we also think that with this system we can create areas with higher-value loot, and increase the tension between players when you fight over sought-after objectives.

We already tested this system during the test of the PVE, so luckily we already have the feedback of our users, who during the testing of the PVE mode expressed doubts about the impact of this mechanism on strategies that matured over time. As a result, we have inserted fewer special containers than expected to offer both a valid new objective and the possibility of exploiting strategies you studied over time.



Weapon Calibers


With the other addition, the calibers, we want to balance out a problem we have seen in some weapons. Shotguns, for example, are very good not only for their pure damage but also because they are very efficient: with the same bullets as other firearms, they do more damage.

With the introduction of calibers, we can make this ratio more balanced: the damage is more significant, but now the number of bullets will be smaller since we will intervene on the type of plants that you can find on the map of Century City!



Packages


We’ve also implemented a new kind of lootable, designed to stimulate players to explore every area of the map because we noticed that they rarely use some peripheral zones of Century City.



Community


Now for the news about the community. At the end of January, we launched the Blood Hunt event: the community's goal was to collectively eliminate up to 200,000 Things. It took you very little to tear that number: in a few days, you have reached the maximum number of eliminations!

We then decided to increase the challenge, marking two new goals: 4,000,000 and 6,000,000 Things. You have given all for this challenge, and you have far exceeded the first of these two goals! Your sense of civic duty is admirable: congratulations, citizens! So to celebrate, we're giving everyone who met the participation criteria for the event all three prizes- trophies, plus a brand new wallpaper to decorate your apartment!



Speaking of community: we are really proud to show you the special reward we made for our Patron Achilles, the first to have reached over 100 friends invited through the referral program! That level grants you a customized painting of your choice, and we expected Achilles to choose... well, himself! But look what he wanted us to represent:



It’s his dog, Boone, driving the mullet he uses for work: so cute!

Finally, last week we launched the test of the new PVE mode of Hell is Others: we collected as much feedback as possible, and now we will thoroughly analyze all the data collected so we can work effectively on Hell is Others!

As you can see, a lot coming up in the future of Hell is Others: we can’t wait to share our ideas with you, and see you fight for the last key left!

Patch Notes 1.4.8

Hello Citizens!

Today we update you on some recent fixes we’ve been working on, which should improve your quality of life and make your experience more fluid! Let's dive in.


  • We are aware that some people still get stuck in the 'Connection in Progress' step. We care a lot about this problem. For this reason, we added some additional checks and logs in order to collect more information in case of such an event. If the problem persists, send us a message on the Hell Is Others' Discord!

  • We solved a problem that caused a series of chain accidents! In short, a certain way of saving data created stumbling blocks, but from now on:


    • You'll not be stuck in the "tutorial loop";
    • Your hub changes remain even if you close the game immediately after;
    • The game will save the action you perform even in case of a sudden game closure. That also applies to the objects you consume: fungi, pills, food, etc.;


  • We also solved the bestiary navigation problem: now you can scroll up and down with W/S or arrows at the ends of the list.

  • We also made pickaxes visible again in the UI, which did not appear to some users when they accessed the basement without going through the editor.

  • Now you can place doors without risking being soft-locked until restart.

  • Now, leaving perishable food in the city store doesn’t trigger the "fridge" dialogue when Adam goes to sleep.

  • We fixed a small sound bug: now, running is the noisiest movement, and sneaking around is the least noisy.

  • There was a little problem with the Chateau Area, as some gold items also appeared outside Chateau Constant: now you have to explore the mansion again to get them.

  • We fixed the Neon Open Sign: from now on, it doesn't highlight when we place the mouse pointer on it.

  • We fixed the problem of the "No Exit" mission, which some players found duplicated.

CENTURY CITY TIMES #5

Hello Citizens!

This January was one of the most eventful and most important months of our recent past! Some of the recent changes that have involved the game have taken a lot of work and energy, which we have to add to the daily commitment to balance, not to mention the creation and implementation of new content!

To give you a rough idea, just know that in the last seven days, we had over 149.000 unique users, a peak of 3874 concurrent users, and over 2935 participants in the referral program! We are thrilled to welcome all these new Citizens to the City, and we want to thank the community members for helping us all these months!

We also had our first Patron, the level which is recognized by a user who has invited 100 neighbors to enter the City: congratulations, Achilles!

But let’s get into the patch we just released a couple of days ago: there is a lot to talk about!
The most important changes we have made concern food and toxicity: we have listened to your feedback, and we have come up with solutions to some problems that we have noticed!

From now on, food only influences the Satiety bar, while Fungi and Pills raise a new bar, called the Toxicity bar. The first bar resets after dying or going to sleep, but the second one resets only when you die: in this way, we’re trying to give “food healing” more space.
We know that this was one of the most asked patches since launch, and we hope you’re gonna have fun with this new balance!

We also removed the Movement Speed, and replaced it with the Search attribute: from now on, the higher is your Search, the faster you search through containers!
To face these changes, we reduced the caps for Vitality and Endurance to +30%, and rebalanced fungi and pills consequently.

We worked a lot on the matchmaking, and we divided the solo and duos queue, in order to ensure fairer matches.
We also improved the hub editing: now you can swap your furniture as you please! We just had to leave one little constraint: in order to close the editor, there must be at least one piece of furniture belonging to the essential ones (door, blood washer, bed, etc.).

Of course, given all the additions, we updated the Bestiary with all the new Things screenshots, descriptions, and loot. We also updated the Credit quest and the Estate quest, in order to simplify the progression within the story for the player!

The coming days will be joyfully full for us! Nevertheless, we will keep you updated on the current and future plans of the game! We thank you for the passion that you show us with your feedback and your participation!

Hello citizens!

With this hotfix, we fixed some bugs and introduced QOL improvements.

Also, We are aware of a problem causing players to be stuck in the "connection in progress" after log-in.
You can try to fix it by verifying the game files on the Epic Games library!


- Fixed bug preventing the player from completing the tutorial after handing over the golden object to Octave.
- Fixed the primary interaction of ON lights after getting placed inside the hub, making the player interact with them twice in order to shut them off.
- Fixed bot spawns that caused some performance losses under certain circumstances.
- Improved the pocket user experience.
- Fixed bug preventing the Catalogue of Junk from updating if the object was placed in the pocket
