Patch Notes 1.4.4
Hello Citizens!
With these new patch notes, we have made several new improvements to features as well as fixed some of the bugs found in the previous update.
We would like to highlight two features that have been patiently awaited and requested by you, our community, that have now arrived!
The first one is that attributes will no longer reset anymore after sleeping. Secondly, we have now split solos and duo queues, in order to ensure a fairer matchmaking.
Read more for the full list of updates:
Melee animation swoosh - Improved the animations for the melee weapon attacks.
Satiety and Food Clash - Food only influences the Satiety bar. Fungi and Pills raise a new bar, called the Toxicity one. - Satiety bar is reset after dying or going to sleep. - Toxicity bar is reset only after dying. - The Movement Speed attribute has been removed. In its place, the new Search attribute has been introduced: it changes the search speed of containers. - Reduced the caps for Vitality and Endurance to +30%. - Rebalanced fungi and pills consequently.
Improvements - Improved the hub editing. Now furniture can be swapped and removed as pleased. There is only one constraint: in order to close the editor, there must be at least one piece of furniture belonging to the essential ones (bed, blood washer, telephone, door). - We removed the ability to see the Credit Score from the life bar and in the match recap screen. - We updated the Bestiary, adding all the new bots, screenshots, descriptions and loot. - Update the Credit quest and the Estate quests, in order to simplify the progression within the story for the player.
Balancing - Changed magazine size for MrChapman+ from 6 to 5. - Changed magazine size for MrChapman++ from 8 to 6. - Changed magazine size for MrWatts+ from 8 to 7. - Changed magazine size for MrWatts++ from 10 to 8.
Bug Fix - Fixed some pieces of furniture having the wrong icon inside the basement. - Fixed some chairs/armchairs having the wrong sleep animation. - Fixed some lights defaulting to the OFF status. - Fixing katana and baseball bat not inflicting bleeding and stunning statuses respectively. - Fixed particle smoke explosion. - Fixed a bug that prevents the progression of elimination quests with "Any weapon" requirements if the player killed a Thing or an Other with bleeding or burning statuses. - Added audio feedback when the player gets a reward after completing an Octave quest. - Fixed a bug that made the health bar of Others and Things visible outside the Field Of View with burning and bleeding statues or if inside or behind the smoke. - Fixed a bug that allowed to bind the ESC key when rebinding a key, blocking the player under certain circumstances. - Fixed a bug preventing the player to extract after reconnecting to a game because lifts were not available before the timer ended. - Fixed a bug where the journal and map UI panels were closed after getting damage from bleeding or burning statuses.
CENTURY CITY TIMES #4
Hello Citizens!
Welcome to the first devlog of the year! In this update, we will tell you about some changes we intend to make to the game, as well as some new ideas that we think can work well with what we have done so far!
Without a doubt, the first thing we want to talk about is the additions for PVE. Trying to meet the requests of a part of the community while keeping the PVP as the core element of the game, we thought we’d offer an alternative for those passionate about the game’s story and the world we created.
That’s why we decided to include some new content on the PVE front of the game, but do not worry: we will continue to work on the PVP side of Hell is Others. As proof of that, we will include a new type of enemy, designed both as a rewarding challenge on the PVE side and as a dynamic opponent for PVP.
We will go into detail on this new content in the coming days: at the moment, we can only let you taste some of what will come. What we want to emphasize is that the final goal of this phase of development is to ensure the possibility of completing the game entirely in singleplayer.
Another relevant novelty we intend to add is the “keys system”. We noticed that some of you have looting strategies that you can always exploit, given that the map never changes. That can lead to repetitive matches. With the introduction of the “keys system”, you’ll find some containers on the map that you can open only with the specific keys required. You’ll find some of those keys in most of the containers around Century City. With this system, we think we’ll be able to encourage the pursuit of different goals and increase the tension when you are contesting an objective with other players!
Another significant addition is that of the toxicity bar, different from that of the satiety already in use. In fact, we have noticed that healing with food risks becoming counterproductive, because it helps to increase the satiety bar along with pills and mushrooms. To address that, we created the toxicity bar: from now on, eating pills and mushrooms adds to that bar, that you can reset sleeping or… well, dying!
Finally, we are implementing two different matchmakings, one for solo queue and another for duo queue: it’s something you’ve been asking for a long time, and we’re happy to add it to the game! This way, we will get a more balanced experience.
We have many other ideas planned for Hell is Others, as well as some surprises we hope to share with you as soon as possible. In the future, we will tell you more, but meanwhile, remember to access our Discord channels to participate in community events and debates!
Have a good treasure hunt!
Winter Helliday is over!
Hello Citizens!
In December, we launched the Winter Helliday: the event included sales, new content, and community activities! To date, however, the streets of Century City have been cleaned up by every gift, and your condos will no longer offer Christmas trees and winter festoons: it’s time to return to "normality"!
In addition, Hell is Others will no longer be on sale, but remember that the referral program is always active, and with it you can get numerous rewards and additional prizes!
If you want to know more about the future of Hell is Others, pick up the third episode of our devlog. We wish you a happy return to Century City!
CENTURY CITY TIMES #3
Hello Citizens!
With our last devlog of the year, we want to wish you happy holidays and tell you briefly what 2022 meant for Strelka and Hell is Others.
Although we published the game at the end of October, as you probably know, proper game development starts way sooner: it is a process that evolves in years and years of conceptualization, experiments, tests, and hypotheses on how the game will develop, how to communicate it, how to design it, and how to make it possible. With Hell is Others, we embarked on an incredibly complex project, both for the size of our team and the ambition of the game.
One of our favorite moments this year was our ravenous reading of your reviews, both in the form of community posts and as feedback from content creators: comments were generally positive, and this gave us courage and confidence for the future. Of course, we also had some criticism, but they were constructive and allowed us to improve. It has made us proud to read the beautiful words you have dedicated to Hell is Others, whether they were about its artistic direction or the originality of its inspirations.
But all this is in the past. The future of Hell is Others still holds many surprises, and we want to use this space to offer you a small window into some of these novelties. Some are already in the works, others are in discussion, and others are more desires or ambitions than concrete future steps of the game. But all of them have one point in common: the hope of continuing to improve Century City with you.
We are working on a series of improvements that can raise the quality of life of all citizens of Century City. First, we know it’s a long-demanded change from the community, so we will tell you right away that we’re dividing solo and duo matchmaking! Also, the user interface will receive some minor changes, with modifications in durability, ATM, character credit, and more. We will also make the house editor more dynamic, with the ability to replace the sofa and change objects faster.
We are working on an even more complex and rich PVE: we are thinking of “winged enemies” deadlier than ever, Things that actively hunt you throughout the city. Our goal is to make it increasingly difficult for you to distinguish one Thing from an Other. There are other ideas that we are working on, such as new types of fertilizers and mushrooms that guarantee new perks, but right now they are not our immediate focus.
We would also like to place Hell is Others on a public platform where the community can help crowd-source the translations: we will moderate it, to ensure it is correct and without any alteration of the lore. Our goal is to add as many languages as possible, and we would like to welcome those wishing to participate in the expansion of Century City!
There are some ideas that are still very far from the concrete, but we have created this space (the devlog) to share with you some of the processes of Hell is Other's development. We will mention just a few concepts, just to make your imagination fly and to test our ambitions: calibers of weapons, keys to access special zones and crates, and critical shots based on skills. We'll leave it at that for the moment.
We have a lot of news planned for Hell is Others, and we want to share it with you as soon as possible. In the meantime, remember to take advantage of the current discount on the Steam store (until January 5th!) to invite your friends to play through the referral program, and to check the official discord to attend community events!
Happy New Year, citizens!

Today we will talk about the referral system, a new feature that will allow you to invite your friends to join the adventure of Hell is Others! Here is how it's going to work:
Hell is Others's players will be able to generate a unique referral code in-game that they can share with their friends;
When a friend uses the referral code, the giver of the code will receive a reward, such as in-game items;
The receiver players will get rewards too!
When a friend uses a referral code when opening the game, the system will verify it and credit the receiving player's account with the appropriate reward! Of course, the same will happen with the creator of the code, but with every new invite, the giver will climb the ladder of our hierarchy titles, going from the Intern to Chairman, Tycoon, or even the Patron: for this last tier, we’ll give something really, really special!
Speaking of rewards, let’s see what awaits our more entrepreneurial citizens!
Meanwhile, the receiver player that redeems the code in time will get the “New Client” set, which includes:
3 Medkit
MissMurphy
Mr Grant
Lady Butler
Sir Armstrong
Mrs Powell
Dr Fisher

Winter Helliday - Patch Notes
Greetings Citizens!
We are very excited to share the patch notes for the Winter Helliday Update with you! The team has been working extra hard to bring you these fantastic new features, including:
Winter Helliday Event
New Enemies
New Devices
Durability and Pocket
Fixes
So without further ado, let's jump right in:
Winter Helliday Event
To celebrate the coming holidays, we decided to schedule an in-game event for Hell is Others: the Winter Helliday, which will last from December 22 to January 5 and allow you to get numerous and exclusive new furniture, wallpapers, and household items!
We also worked on a new group of enemies, aiming to create more variety for PVE and add levels of complexity and surprise to PVP challenges. The complete list of the new Things can be found in the dedicated news, here.
NEW DEVICES
With the same objective in mind, we also worked on new devices, able to radically change a clash or force players to pay greater attention to the level design and the opponent's positioning. In our design, the function of the new devices will also be to give more stimuli to those who prefer a more stealthy or sneaky approach.
We decided to introduce two new mechanics: pocket and durability. The function of both is to make the experience more dynamic, protecting the competitive aspect of the game but also making it less forcefully punitive. Here’s the post with all the news about those new mechanics.
FIXES
Here is short list of the fixes we included in this patch:
Fixed a bug that prevented players from dodging when touching a short obstacle.
Fixed the weapon wheel breaking when players had more than 14 weapons in their inventory.
This is our biggest update for the game since its launch; we can't wait to hear your feedback and see all the unique content you'll be able to create with the new tools and challenges implemented!
Don't forget to join our Discord and follow us on Twitter to chat about the update and tell us what you think.
