Hero's Story

Beta Update #2

Hello, heroes!

Initially I wanted to devote the next Hero's Story update to improving the interface, but serious game errors that occurred also after the recent update, prompted me to work on bugfixes.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed critical bug when players could get out of bounds in Duke's Prison.
  • Fixed critical bug with when players spawn out of bounds in Duke's Prison.
  • Fixed critical bug when player's character couldn't die.
  • Fixed critical bug when players couldn't pick up weapon in Canals.
  • Fixed bug when coins in Main Hall didn't have tooltips.

Balance

  • Parry (RMB) at the start of the game is no longer available - parry is only possible with a shield or weapon in the left hand.

Interface

  • Some messages for debugging in Expanse are disabled.

Sound and music

  • Reduced the volume of skeleton's death sound.

Have fun!

Beta Update #1

Hello, heroes!

Yesterday pretty big update for Hero's Story was released, which updated game levels, disabled temporary abilities and spells, as well as corrected sounds, lighting, interface, and much more. Let's look through each item in more detail!

General

The game has been updated to the beta version. This means that the mechanics and solutions added to the game now are likely to remain in the release version. The game version itself remains the same (1.0.6), as many changes were not included in the first beta update.

Interface

Main menu scene has been updated. Some of the labels used for debugging the game were removed too. I also plan to update Settings menu in the upcoming updates.

Character creation

The choice of faction 'allegiance' was replaced with the choice of character's 'origins'. For now, this is more of a cosmetic change, but in the future, the faction selection will be updated to the character's starting class selection. Choosing a random faction was removed from the game, because it was not popular and did not make much sense in terms of lore.

Game levels

The first levels of the game have been completely reworked. On the other levels, the lighting was changed.

Physics

Some game objects had their physics disabled to make the game more stable. At this stage, there is no clear separation between which objects are dynamic and which are not, and this is what I plan to fix in future updates.

Sound and music

Some sounds have been replaced or removed from the game. For example, many players were annoyed by the loud sound of the character's armor - it was made quieter. On the first level with the dungeon, the intense music was replaced with more atmospheric background sounds from the old version of the game. And so on.

Balance

Fireball and Healing are no longer available for use from the start of the game. These abilities can be learned in future updates (at least Fireball).

Artificial Intelligence

Despite the fact that some flaws in enemy animations have been corrected, artificial intelligence remains one of the main problems of the game at the moment, and will be developed further.

Optimization

The primitive geometry on some of the levels was replaced with more optimized meshes. In the Expanse has been reduced draw distance of the vegetation for optimization.

System requirements

System requirements have been updated. Hero's Story can be launched on weaker machines, but due to not quite optimal use of video memory and the recommended amount of RAM, it is recommended to install the game on 64-bit systems.

Have fun!

Your Silent.

Beta is coming

Hello, heroes!

A year has passed since the release of Hero's Story in Steam Early Access, it's time to take some stock.
During this time, a lot of updates have been released - both fixing bugs and adding new content.
However, the game does not stand still, and it's time to start a new stage!
In the coming days, a major update will be released for Hero's Story, and the game will go into beta status.
For me, as a developer, this primarily means moving from temporary mechanics to more stable, permanent solutions. For players - a more complete and interesting game.
For example, many players have complained that first levels of the game are dark, boring, and unoptimized - the player's opinions are important to me, so I took the time to update first locations.
Also, all temporary spells and abilities will be removed (e.g. healing) - players will have to learn them later.
Now at the beginning of the game, the player will not have weapons anymore - you will have to search for them on your own to survive in the harsh world of Teandria!
Of course, the first beta update will not include all the planned changes, but no one is saying that it will be the last :)
I can't wait to see your feedback on the updated version of the game.
Thank you for all of the patience and support within this year!

Best regards, Silent.

Hero's Story Dev Blog #6

Greetings, Heroes.
Today I will tell you about last major update, in development of which was updated Expanse - one of the Hero's Story outdoors locations, and a little bit - about the game's future!

I'll start with the fact that Expanse is probably the biggest location I've done in all of my games, and that I moved the game to the new engine precisely for the sake of efficient rendering of large open spaces. I started with a large square stub without textures or any objects.

Of course, in process of creating any level you can use ready-made maps, or use a certain landscape generator (especially if you are an indie developer). However, I came to the conclusion that a more primitive, but hand made location is better than those made by someone else.

During the development there were several options for the color scheme and lighting of the level, but in the end I decided on warm colors that do not irritate players eyes. Also at the request of the players, the vignette effect was removed, and the blur was reduced.

During the creation of Expanse I encountered many difficulties - the area of the level was too large to properly bake the lighting, the shadows were too dark, and the performance left much to be desired...

I have managed to partially smooth out these problems by changing objects settings, but the day and night cycle had to be temporarily disabled for improvement. In the future I plan to add weather effects as well. In total there will be five large open zones in basic version of the game (including Expanse).

And the next Early Access update is scheduled for release within 1-2 weeks!

Be strong, take care. Sincerely, Silentplaygames.

It's Discount Time!

Dear friends!

I am pleased to inform you that both of my games, Wanderer of Teandria and Hero's Story, are sold at a discount of 50% and 10%, respectively, for a limited time!

Wanderer of Teandria - a challenging platformer, inspired by the classic representatives of the genre, in which you will learn the story of Ludwig.
Hero's Story - a mix of action and role-playing game in which you will play as an unknown mercenary and explore Teandria in three dimensions.

Hurry up to plunge into the magical world of Teandria! Sincerely yours, Silentplaygames.
