Beta Update #7

Hello, heroes!

Today I present you a major update for Hero's Story Early Access, containing both new content (including new locations, non-player characters, enemies and mechanics) and bug fixes. But before we go into each item in more detail, I would like you to read a short list of changes.

General



  • Game version was updated to 1.0.7
  • Now when you click 'Continue' button in menu, loading screen will appear, as intended
  • Additional info about primary stats was added to character creation screen

Additions




  • New game zone added: Endless Desert
  • New NPC added: The Wanderer
  • New enemy type: Rakshasa
  • New enemy type: Ghost of Shasaf
  • New game mechanics: Treasure Chests
  • Added new variations of old NPCs
  • Added 2 new Steam achievements: "Eternal Sun" and "Gold and Experience"

Bugfixes




  • Fixed critical bug, that caused game crash when F5 key was pressed
  • Fixed a bug, when enemies could attack our hero, when he was out of their sight*
  • Fixed a bug, when sound volume settings didn't affect torches and fireplaces
  • Fixed a bug, when delete save button appeared on other screens
  • Updated Zombie AI
  • Minor game levels changes

Now let's take a closer look at some points.

Treasure Chests





Chests of gold were introduced in the very first versions of the game, but after moving to a new engine, they were gone. Now, finally, the treasure chests are returning - with improved mechanics and visual. The contents of the chests are selected randomly, and the treasures inside have a certain drop chance. For example, you will more often come across empty chests or chests with one coin than chests with a handful of gold coins or keys. In some cases, the chests are well hidden, and you will have to work hard to get them!

Endless Desert





The Endless Desert is the second of the planned zones in the Hero's Story game. It is a desert with ruins, cacti, oases and ancient secrets. To get into this zone, you need to get out of the Duke's Prison and move along the road towards the mine. New locations in this zone will be opened gradually with the release of updates, as was the case with Expanse. Endless Desert is approximately equal to the Expanse in scale, but all the objects were placed manually.

New Enemies





Rakshasas are restless desert spirits who pose a serious threat to our hero. They notice our hero much better than skeletons and have better combat characteristics. Rakshasa warriors, among other things, have an increased health reserve due to a thicker chitinous shell. I recommend fighting them with full stamina, luring them out one at a time! As a rule, Rakshasas guard ancient ruins or passages to them.

Beta Update #6

Hello, heroes!

Another update for the beta version of Hero's Story has been released today! It is small, but rather important. It includes a save system (currently in test mode), some fixes, and code base optimization. Most of today's changes remain "under the hood", but, nevertheless, I hope that you will like it. The full list of changes can be found below.

General



  • Added a save system (in test mode)*
  • Added new hints to the loading screen
  • At the request of players, a visual effect of hitting the enemy has been added

Optimization



  • Multiple improvements to the game scripts

Bugfixes



  • At the request of the players, the additional animation at the beginning of the character's movement is removed
  • Fixed an issue where the help window kept appearing again on a second visit
  • Minor fixes

Known issues



  • In-game settings are not saved
  • Some parameters are not saved correctly

Beta Update #5

Hello, heroes!

Today I released small update for the beta version of Hero's Story, which mainly contains fixes for multiple bugs with enemy animations, as well as changes to the in-game cursor and default graphics settings. You need to reinstall the game for the updated default settings to take effect.

General



  • Added new hints to the loading screen
  • Changed an in-game cursor (from the crosshair to a more suitable for the role-playing game dot)
  • Corpses of enemies will now disappear with a graphic effect (the effect itself will still be finalized)

Optimization



  • Changed default graphics settings to avoid overload of the graphics card (you can change these settings later in the Options menu)
  • Limited the number of frames (60) by default and enabled vertical synchronization* to improve stability of the game

Animations



  • Fixed multiple incorrect enemy animations (completely redesigned animation controllers)

Bugfixes



  • Cauldron in the Main Hall will now correctly set the player character on fire
  • Fixed a bug where the sound of hitting the enemy was not affected by volume level

System requirements



  • Updated information on the game page - Hero's Story now requires 64-bit Windows to run

Known issues



  • Killed enemies and picked up items appear again when you reload the level. This bug will be fixed in the next update.

Beta Update #4

Hello, heroes!

Today I released a new update for beta version of Hero's Story, which mainly contains bugfixes for troublesome bugs, including critical bug with inability to get Steam achievements! Bugfixes are very important because without them it is nearly impossible to add new content normally.

General



  • Added possibility to gain achievement "Bottoms up!"

Game levels



  • Completely reworked location: Old Crypt
  • Small fixes

Balance



  • Base regen amount of health, energy and stamina increased by 50% for all character classes
  • Bonus regen amount of health, energy and stamina reduced by 50% for all character classes

Optimization



  • Deleted some unused game files

Bugfixes



  • Fixed critical bug that prevented player from getting Steam achievements.
  • Fixed bug where the player character kept moving when opening inventory, map or journal.
  • Fixed bug where the player character kept moving when starting a dialogue with an NPC.
  • Fixed bug where the character's weapon was not visible even though it was picked up before.

Known issues



  • Incorrect enemies animation. This bug will be fixed in the next update.

Beta Update #3

Hello, heroes!

Yesterday yet another update for beta version of Hero's Story was released, which brought a character class selection, physics fixes, new graphics settings and much more!

Interface



  • Added advanced graphics settings to the main menu and pause menu. To access these settings, select "More Options..." in the graphics menu. Note: settings may not save after exiting the game!
  • Removed outdated items from Controls menu.

Character creation



  • Added a window for selecting character starting class. Classes were in the game before, and give the same bonuses to regeneration of life, energy, and stamina as factions before.

Game levels



  • Added a new level: the Warehouse. This level serves as a passage from Prison to Main Hall.
  • Minor fixes of the first levels.

Physics



  • Fixed critical bug when the player character could throw barrels, crates and even enemies with great force.

Balance



  • Now you will need to find 1 more key to get out of Prison. Be careful: once out of the cage, don't get caught in it again!

Bugfixes



  • Fixed bug with a possible hang when trying to start a new game.

Known issues



  • In the latest versions of the game you can't get achievements. This error will be fixed in the next update!
